Subject: Blood Angels: Giving the Predator Annihilator a home?
|

So I'm sitting here looking at the slowly growing pile of boxes that will soon come to comprise my Blood Angels chapter, and I being to wonder if a tank that's long been cast off due to cost and ineffectiveness may have been given new life.
The Predator Annihilator: One TL Lascannon turret and two Lascannon sponsons. In C:SM, the Predator Annihilator is generally too expensive for what it does.
Now that Predators are fast for the Blood Angels, is the cost of this tank now justified? The ability to move 6" and unleash three LCs on a target is nothing to sneeze at, nor the ability to move 12" and still fire a TL LC.
However, it's still a Predator that'll die to anything that sneezes at it from the flank or the rear. It's also a hefty 180 points.
It's also competing with Dakka predators, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, and Dreadnoughts for Heavy Support slots. Are these more valuable selections for a Blood Angels army? There's also the issue of having access to Baal Predators to consider.
Vote in the poll and share your thoughts on Blood Angels Predators!

Auto las preds are 135 points. If you think about it, that's an amazing buy for mobile heavy weapons. Yeah sure, the vendetta puts out 3 twin las shots for less, no denying that, but the pred is still an amazing buy.
The auto/las pred is cheaper than triple las, and deal with transports better than triple las. In this editon of meching up, it's a wonderful choice.

Twin-linked lascannon turrets on Predators are inordinately expensive. They are at least double what they should cost and should not be taken except as an extreme last resort upgrade. The auto/las Predator is far more efficient.

Having said that, are there other places in the Codex for cost-effective ranged Anti-Tank firepower? (24 inches and beyond)

I've always never run tanks in my BA, always favouring dreads. TL Las dreads, or now just drop in REAL close to tanks, and with 2 dccw's, you'll mess their days up reaaaaal nice.

Razorbacks with lascannons, Land Speeder Typhoons, and Dreadnoughts with autocannons are all more efficient than twin- las Preds.

Not really.. 4 TL AC shots have about the same chance of scoring 1 penetrating hit vs armor 11 (slightly above 1 pen).. for the same price
Really they're all fairly similar except lascannons can deal with higher armor and 2+/3+ save models.. The major difference is for BA the predator can MOVE and fire like a dreadnought which makes it hugely more useful than the SM version

Yes I think fast predators in general are an improvement. I agree with Fetterkey though, for anti-transport you can't go wrong with ac/2lc. Better for the points.
Not really.. 4 TL AC shots have about the same chance of scoring 1 penetrating hit vs armor 11 (slightly above 1 pen).. for the same price
You sure about that? Rough calc has 4 tlac shots with a significant advantage over 1 tllac against AV11.

Not when you factor in 2 lascannons as well.
1 auto cannon causes .43 pens
2 lascannons cause .87
2 Tl auto cannons cause around 1.1 pens.. Its basically no difference statistically (Except the predator comes in a boxset and Tl AC arms are from forgeworld!)

I was talking about Predators with twin-linked lascannon turrets. Auto/las Predators are a fine option.

I'm looking to triple AC preds stock...just to tank shock a full 18"...

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Sure, I don't really care what str, all I care is that a higher str is possible than normal non-fast preds.
