I have a buddie who plays BE and has been a pretty big fan of them for well.. as long as I have known the guy. He is pumped about the new dex prolly more than anyone but a bit sadden by it as well as he knows with the new dex will be a big surge in players of said army for a bit. I thought about it and noticed that my buddies who play nids and IG also had the same slight feeling. Cause well before now. How often did you really see Guard and nids running around? But I think I am can feel them on this. Haveing an army that is a bit unique just by no one else really ever touching the army. To being just another one of the herd.

So does anyone else go threw the feelings of sadness to know there army is soon to become the new flavor of the month?

Erm....You see these armies all the time. Saw em in 3rd, 4th, 4.5 and 5th ed and before that. The same with the rest of the core armies such as Sm, Eldar, Orks, Chaos, Tyranids.

I don't have a problem with it, Its not as if they are totally unique, I mean there have been thousands of players using BA ever since the dawn of time, back when they were orange.

Well at the time before 5th ed they were not very common at all. SM, Eldar, tau and necrons were very dominante at the 3 stores around here.

Luckily, flavor of the month at my gaming store is not as bad as it could be elsewhere. We only have one other player excited about the BA release, and we have no Nid players, 1 IG player, and 1 SW player. Not too bad in the flavor of the month category.

I like being different to some extent from other people who follow the pack and don't think for themselves. But that is outweighed by new rules for something that I enjoy. The people who go flavor of the month are usually either proxying painted stuff as other models or using unpainted models to do the same (or the newly bought models). Then I field a half painted to fully painted army of that type and people know that I spent time on my army and couldn't have started it simply because it's popular at the moment.

Doesn't bother me much. I just wait until the new shiny wears off for them and they want to go to the next flavor, and buy all their stuff real cheap...............

The bandwagon.

Its not really a big deal, in a couple of months there will be a new bandwagon.. Grey knights whose fluff and rules will likely surpass by a large degree the blood angels.

Although I dislike bandwagons, mostly because I lose interest quickly. I fell off the wolf bandwagon after painting two things.

If anyone can be upset it will be dark eldar when they get a new shiny codex in 2030. If you have stayed true that long, you should get some kudos.

But eltitism always fails.

Well I play DE, so I think I am immune to that problem. But if hell does freeze over I will be a little pissed at all the new players that couldn't suck it up an play a 15+ year old codex.

Before the 5th ed guard codex came out, I used to go to our LGS tournaments with my Guard. I can't recall another guard player ever coming and we averaged 14-16 people. Actually we had a squat player using them as proxy guardsmen, but that was only once. Now guard are the most popular army at our tournaments and it does annoy me

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake.

When the Necrons finally get a new codex, I will happy that my Necrons will get some attention from GW and new models. But it will be bit of a downer when I go from being the only Necron player to one of the many necron players. I'm just hoping they don't power game my guys like crazy now, one of the main reasons I don't look at starting an IG army any more but that is just strange taste there.

Not really - I have had the core of most of my armies for well over 10 years or so. As for my BA, I am hoping that the new releases will be the impetus I need to actually finish off and repaint the damn things!

The joy of receiving a new codex generally outweighs the dislike of being the FOTM, but pretty soon there will be a new flavor for people to jump on so you don't have to endure it long.

I guess seeing as I'm a SM player that I have never felt this way, but I take pride in knowing that I created my own chapter, and did not just take the Ultramarines, which, I feel as my duty as a Boy Scout to tell you, have the exact same color scheme as the Cub Scouts, the pre Boy Scout club for grades 1-4. haha.

100% yes.

Back in 2007, I was one of three ork players at the adepticon gladiator, one of two in the 40k championships there. The next year, you couldn't turn around without seeing orks...

It used to be that people played orks because they liked orks. We spent hours converting tanks, looting stuff. Now, people play orks because they're good, and everyone is concerned about making sure your conversions are the right footprint, so you don't accidentally get an advantage.

I LOVE FOTM armies.

Because most of my armies are not painted , i dont really have any attachment for them.

FOTM means i can sell it for a higher price , so I LOVE FOTM!

I'll cry tears of honest joy when genestealer cultists gets their next codex. I'll do stupid happy dances around my local gaming club and LFGS when they turn into the FOTM army. And I'm prepared to wait another 17 years for that to happen.

When a new codex for one of my armies comes around I just keep on playing with my old models, restructure them some to fit and add a few new shinies. For a few years people will think my outdated models look stupid, but somewhere around the 10-12 year mark, they turn "vintage" and I get a lot of cred for using "old beautiful" models. And every now and then I get to play against people who are younger than my models.

True love is not challenged by you playing around with something younger with better figures.

As far as 40K goes, I think it's great that Blood Angels are going to get some love; and I'm sure many will jump on the band wagon. But at least for now, I'm fascinated by the new 'nid codex and plan to stick with that army for the foreseeable future.

In a way this is a good think, imho, because it may help to show who's really dedicated to a particular army.

Back in2e I was the only one in the aria Playing Space Puppies, then the 2e Codex came out and I went away for a month. The next Turnament I went to half the Players were Space Wolves.
That was also the one were I had a Guy refuse to play me becouse my Puppies were "Primer Grey" no "Space Wolf Grey".
I expect The Band Wagon crowd and those that cry Foul when you show up with your DIY Blood Angels Count as chapter is Green and Black

Hey, everyone knows Boy Scouts grow up to be young imperial guard, which grow up to be Space Marines, which grow up to fall to Chaos, which grows up to crush the life out of the loyalist twilight-marine scum...

So it's all good.

That being said, I'm definately making blue-and-gold Kommandos when I get a chance....
