Warhammer and 40k are hardly original, but I'm pretty sure that they predate Blizzard. For this to be true, GW would have to own a time machine.

edit: didn't see your edit when I said that. Still, I'm not too bothered by it. When someone doesn't know what the hell they are criticizing, then there is no point arguing.

It's people like that who suck. Sure, they can have their own opinion, but this is just plain stupid. He should have just said "I hate Warhammer", and saved himself the trouble of having his stupidity laughed at.

Yes, to be honest i do, and that has led to my share of problems but i wont get into that

Just to avoid putting a useless post

I find it extremely annoying when a people compare halo or any other sci fi thing to warhammer because this often
creates fights
I once had this kid in the FLGS start a fight with a bunch of other underaged gamers, just because he said
A halo energy sword can kill your whole army in one hit
It ended in a OH YEAH MY.....

Cheesepie, some punctuation would be lovely. It really makes your posts easier to read!

I've dealt with the kind of people who say "X stole from Y" on a daily basis. Everyone takes everything from everybody, especially in science fiction.

Mixed Regiment Guard: 3200 points - Wins 32 l Losses 22 l Draws 6

"Fantasy is like chess, 40k is checkers."

"I think the writers meant for it to be played this way..."

"I just read through the new codex and..."

All guaranteed to start fights.

The essential paradigm of cyberspace is creating partially situated identities out of actual or potential social reality in terms of canonical forms of human contact, thus renormalizing the phenomenology of narrative space and requiring the naturalization of the intersubjective cognitive strategy, and thereby resolving the dialectics of metaphorical thoughts, each problematic to the other, collectively redefining and reifying the paradigm of the parable of the model of the metaphor.

Also, i cant stand it when people complain about someone stole an idea from someone else, GW pretty much based thier ideas on something else, Like gene stealers and aliens (xenomorphs).
I can go on about all the things i hear from people about 'X stole from Y' forever, but seriously you should ignore these people, stupidity cannot be cured.

That what i hate to hear, and not only as a wargamer either.

Well the fact is that it may be wrong to accuse one thing of stealing,
but that one thing (IE warhammer) most likely stole from another thing,
just not what you or they may be thinking of (IE Random sci fi)

My sincere apologies for my punctuation, but i type here (and anything else on the internet) like i type on msn or any other messenger
Fast and how i like it

Ironically I find it annoying when people mistake Warhammer for being particularly original, there's usually at least one post a month criticising D&D for stealing ideas off Games Workshop.

Does it really matter if something is "stolen" by another company for their own use?

Yea what Luna said.

You really should see the 3ed Tyranids before the newer models came out.

3ed was also before Starcraft and the "zergy" ones came out shortly after Starcraft was launched.

Want a honest opinion? I play both Games Workshop and Privateer press games. Yes GW has done goofed. But until I -stop- enjoying building, painting and playing their product. I will shamelessly buy from them. Privateer Press has created a wonderful steampunk setting. Has just as enjoyable models, is cheaper and is as fun to play with!

Yes i have Luna, I am a proud owner of the BBB and i still have fond memories of them

But that raises a good question, zerg might not be ripped off of the nids, as much, then
where were zerg ripped off? and dont say that it was their idea, because that's hard to very hard to believe due to all the sci fi similarity types
but we can all agree that WarCraft is very very similar to warhammer fantasy
It might just be possible that blizzard got leaked data containing what is now current nids

GAH its a conspiracy i say, someone call the media, the world must be informed

Oh and i think i derailed a little bit

The Zerg are just a combination of the bugs from Starship Troopers and the movie Aliens - similar can be said for the Tyranids. Space Hulk was basically Aliens: The Boardgame when it came out back in the mid-late 80s.

I don't think Blizzard got leaked anything. A bunch of guys who liked Lord of the Rings and Warhammer made a fantasy RTS and that was that. If I recall correctly GW started getting super-protective over their IPs after Warcraft 1 came out though, since the Orc designs were very close to the Warhammer Orcs.

Actually Blizzard approached Games Workshop about making a Warhammer fantasy RTS, Games Workshop said no. Thus Warcraft was borne. Blizzard has never had an original idea since the company was created. They have a very good business model of taking existing genres and simplifying them.

And Leading Edge games came out with an "ALIENS:the boardgame" in 1990 as well (where each of the characters had their own playing piece and stat card.).

Both 40k and Starcraft borrowed from the same source material - in the same way that all "traditional fantasy" writers have borrowed from collective folklore.

Gah! I hate when people do that, fluffwise, the original chapters are the strongest, but are pretty much equal in strength.

While other founding chapters are as good as the 1st foundings, they all have a thing they are strong at (like the original chapters) thus making as good as the original chapters.

So basically, all chapters are equal in a way.

Edit: Also, The reason for so many chapters is that so no sm player is disappointed with the fluff of his army
