The convention begins this coming Friday. The time to act is now! Visit the registration site to sign up for the games you want to play. Register!
Games and Speakers
Over 70 events scheduled for the weekend, a terrific lineup of historical miniatures, board games, and tournaments. Spaces are still available but many games are nearing their player limits.
Four engaging speakers are lined up over the course of the weekend. Two will speak on the subject of World War Two, and two will speak on the subject of the American Civil War. One of those is a World War Two veteran who will be sharing his own experiences with attendees. Listen to the presentations, ask questions, get your books signed if you like. Attendance to these presentations is free to the public. Details can be found here.
Accommodations
The event hotel, Holiday Inn Portland West is nearing capacity for room reservations so if you want to have the convenience of staying onsite, call them to make arrangements before its too late. The special room rate of $69 ends this weekend, as in tomorrow! Mention Huzzah! when you call. If you prefer to walk across the street, there is a Super 8 and Motel 6 with lower rates.
Other Events
•SOTCW Gathering Friday night of the convention. Not a member? Visit with 20th Century wargaming enthusiasts and learn more about the Society of Twentieth Century Wargamers. The SOTCW has donated several back issues of their publication, The Journal, for attendees.
•The Flames of War tournament, a national qualifier, is full! Gordon of Adler Hobbies has been working on the terrain and the rules, crafting a tournament with an emphasis on air support.
•The painting contest is a great opportunity to show off your work and share ideas with other painters. Ken Eckhardt of Blue Moose Arts has lined up a tremendous array of prizes, and dont forget, painting contest winners earn points for their club toward the Huzzah! Helm club participation prize!
•The Shipyard Brewing Co. featured game being prepared by Andy Niven is sure to be a visual spectacle! If you love gads of 25mm troops marching across detailed terrain, this could be the game for you.
•The Wargames Factory and MHWA club game is the Battle of Sabis, which will run two sessions. Stop by to push some barbarians and attempt to crack the Roman air of invincibility! This game features 3,000+ figures painted by 36 or 40 painters over a six month period. All the figures were donated by Wargames Factory, who will be in attendance!
•Board gaming events too- Diplomacy, ASL, and even GMT tournaments for the board gaming community.
Prizes
There are just too many to list. Door prizes, gifts for the first 100 registered attendees, other gifts for the first 150 registered attendees, linen convention tote bags for all registered attendees. Truly, I need a spreadsheet to track all of the industry support that has been shown to Huzzah! Go home loaded with goodies.
Vendors
Maine has never hosted so many wargaming related vendors. We have thirteen vendors who will be in attendance offering attendees a wide variety of miniatures, terrain, books, rules, painting services, and much more. Check out the list.
Ticket Auction
Dozens of awesome prizes will be won by lucky bidders at our ticket auction this year. "FIve gets you Ten" is what we say. $5 gets you ten tickets, which you can distribute into the baskets of the prizes you wish to win. Many of the prizes will be drawn for just between game sessions, but some prizes will run all weekend. Bid as often as you like up to the time of drawing. Proceeds help the MHWA pay for Huzzah!, with the balance of the proceeds going to our club effort to start student gaming clubs. Take a look at what will be auctioned.
Huzzah! Helm
This lobster pot style helmet, donated by Richard Claydon of Boston Trained Bands, is truly cool, and one club will take it home to hold for a year. The New England club earning the most points (registered attendees, game masters, distance to club location, painting contest winners, and "best of" winners) will have their name and the year engraved on the helmet, and hold it until next year's convention. Learn more about the Huzzah! Helm .
Flea Market
Sunday we will host the flea market and registered attendees are welcome to bring their figs, games, etc to buy, sell and swap. All attendees are welcome to shop.
I have to wrap this up or I'd keep typing. Huzzah! is going to offer a terrific weekend of gaming. Please, plan to join us for a day, or for the weekend. Support the historical wargaming industry in New England. Bring new people into the hobby. Visit with old friends, and make new ones. Join us for Huzzah!
Preregistration ends in two days. Registrations will be accepted at the door, but why wait?
