hey everyone A couple of weeks ago, i began contemplating whether or not i should start playing necromunda. Me and my friends have played 40k to the point where we started using the phrase "Im off to my mates to play 40k" as a cover for going out and getting slammed. Anywho, on one of these drunken spree's, i mentioned that we should start playing something small scale. Now this was about a year ago, and between then, we have tried out Warhammer skirmish (always good for a laugh) Legends of the old west (I cant recommend this enough. Was a great laugh) and a bit of kill team for 40k. The latter really sparked our collective interests, and we really enjoyed the narrative of it. Either way, our collective addiction to it became heavily influenced by zombies, and before long we were playing games against swarms of the undead - defending a small house, running through town, resupplying on fuel, food and water, or even just hunting undead. Soon we began converting up some models to represent our foolhardy heroes...

http://s662.photobucket.com/albums/uu349/ghostfish0/?action=view¤t=P1010033.jpg

http://s662.photobucket.com/albums/uu349/ghostfish0/?action=view¤t=P1010034.jpg

These are my two, recently remodded to have some pimp'd weapons. They were a bane to many a zombie until sadly they got muched on in our most recant game. Either way, i had a laugh with them. Now, as i said before, in the last few weeks i have been seriously considering necromunda after being inspired by Arhibald Jack, Shockwave, and of course Migsula, and have decided to take a plunge and give it a go. It did help that Archibald has a huge stash of rules for it and that the core rules are free!

So im still up at arms as what my group will be. they're their to satisfy my urge to make something different, whilst at the same time be fun to play with. So far, its down to escher ( who are pretty nasty in combat), ratskins (who fit the theme the best) and Scavvy ( cos.... mutations could really be useful). Now i'll leave you to contemplate what they could possibly be, though it could be pretty obvious. Incidently As well as modelling and (hopefully) painting, i'll be spamming fluff, battle reps (if i can get good light to take pics) and of course, helpful revision stuff (You could argue that starting a PM blog with GCSE's and an AS level coming up soon is a bit bad, but... i dont really have an excuse. sorry. )

So, Until next time my chums. Im off to revise for a biology mock ( the synoatrial node controls the heart beat by sending electrical impulses across the atrium, until it hits the AVN, which sends the impulses down the bundle of his.) All the best.

"Straight Fething Silver" Tanith first and only

I have a reputation, Modile, a reputation as a fair, honest man who treats his soldiers well and supports them in the face of darkness. Potentially, that reputation makes me soft. It seems I understand failure and forgive it. Some, like Kowle, believe me to be a weak commissar, not prepared to take the action my rank demands. Not prepared to enforce field discipline where I see it failing. I am an Imperial commissar. I will enflame the weak, support the wavering, guide the lost. I will be all things to all men who need me. But I will also punish without hesitation the weak, the incompetent, and the treasonous.
I am a Commissar. I am empowered to deliver justice wherever I see it lacking. I am empowered to punish cowardice. I am granted the gift of total authority to judge, in the name of the Emperor, on the field of combat.

Ok, sorry for a profound lack of updates. I forgot to mention due to procrastination and revision for my exams, i'll be posting somewhat sporadically.

Anywho, onto the pictures. Now, as you may have seen, my gang will be a take on the escher gang in necromunda. However, as much as i like the models, i wanted to do something unique(ish) and different. So the kroot gang idea was born. Now, this gang is far from complete, and i have yet to create any juves for it. However, this is my gang so far.

This is the finished kroot so far.

This is my current gang leader. He is technically standing in until i buy myself a kroot shaper miniature, which will be after the exams.
If it cant be made out by the picture, i took the time to mercilessly gouge out his eye, and make him a pump action shotgun.

Another view of the leader.

This guy is my favorite so far. He took a uncharacteristic amount of cutting and glueing, and a large blob of greenstuff. His head is made out of a kroot, and a skaven plague monk. I also tried to make a poncho. What do ya think?

This guy is supposed to be the leaders body guard. The final gang will have another like him, who will essentially follow the boss around, taking shots for him The arms i found in my bits box, and i have no clue where they came from. Any ideas?

Ok, thanks to archibald jack, i got some rules for having dogs in your gang. Now the basic rule of thumb, is that they have to have a handler. So what better idea than to have a kroot/hound pair, who will (hopefully) infiltrate and cause havoc? I tired to make him sit in a cool squatting pose, but i didnt pull it off very well. Only other thing to point out is his left hand, which is converted from the zombie hands.

This is the second, and i plan on having a third. I envision this one as having just shot down some prey (no doubt a milliasaur or something), and he is now running over to finish it off, with his knife.

Ok. Now i need your help. Here is my next ganger i made, who is the second kroot armed with a lasgun in my gang. Im not sold by his pose, so feel free to suggest a different one.

And finally, this is my WIP female kroot. To understand it better, heres some quick fluff about them i gleaned from a different forum. "The female Kroot have spines that go right down their backs (unlike the males that just have it on their heads arms and legs). Rubbing those spines together is how they pass the genetic material. A Small pouch on the back of the female kroot (sorta like the pods in the gremlin movies) keeps the young safe till they are ready to be spat out."

This is why i removed the spines along the kroots arms and legs, and tried to make the arms and legs thinner.

The female also has some of my own changes. I recall a source that said male and female kroot are generally very similar, but i couldnt help 'softening' the kroot facial features, in an attempt to make it look feminine. Additionally, i gave her some boobs, but i tried to make them as realistic as possible, by giving her a metal bra thing. If the picture doesnt visualize this very well i'll remove the arms that are just blue tacced on. Another change, was i made her thinner at the waist, which i gather is unable to be seen, and i also shortened the quills coming out her head. I thought that basically they would be used for displays in mating seasons by the male kroot, so it wouldnt be as prominant on females. Ill take a picture of a male kroot head next to the female head ASAP. Oh one other thing, do the arms cover to much of her body, which may cover my first ever bit of sculpting?

Now, what do you think of my gang?

I like the idea of the female kroot as well, probably wouldn't have gone for the metal bra myself, maybe more understated boobs with a cloth wrapping around the chest to match the usual kroot torso coverings.

Have you thought about what weapons you will give your heavies?

I've found that kroot legs take to converting and .reshaping real well so don't be afraid to hack and slash!

Keep it up the good work, can't wait to see some paint on those suckers

I run 3 Nec gangs (cawdor, orlock, and redemptionists) and the best weapons around for heavy and special conversions are the imp guard plastics. Definitely start with the plastic heavy stubber first if you can, its one of the cheapest heavy weapons and really does the trick.

When you convert one up post it...im really digging the kroot/escher gang idea.

You've done some really cool things with them! I especially like the dog handlers idea, very predatory
One thing I would personally change is the female one though - I've always though kroot look like vaguely reptilian birds, and neither reptiles or birds have breasts, so i reckon it's a little jarring. I quite like the lasgun pose on the one you're not sure about too - what don't you like about it? Great job - looking forward to seeing them painted up

@ Scrazza - thanks for the tip, i reckon the running kroot will probably get his foot bent a little bit, as his running pose doesnt look hugely convincing atm.

@ Baconfat - thanks ^^, not really sure about a female tau though :S its been done before, and to make it look nice, it requires alot of skill >.>

@ Blackhand - Why thank you, and i agree, a leather bound bosum would probably look alot better, however, im not really good at the whole sculpting thing at the moment, and i was hugely paranoid that if i tried to GS it all, it might of ended up like those female marines with massive trianglular boobs 0.0 In saying that though, it hink they came out quite nicely preportioned...

@ XxRVNGRDxX - Yes, in most circumstances i would have gone for a heavy stubber for a starting weapon, but sadly disaster struck. Basically whilst drawing up my gang it occurred to me my heavy couldnt afford a heavy stubber. So he'll be running round with a flamer for the time being.

Finally, @ Scarper - You know what? I completely and utterly agree with you. Neither reptiles nor birds have breasts, and it doesnt huely fit their anatomy. But, you must also appretiate, trying to convert a said A-sexual alien into a convincing female is quite difficult without the obvious breast inclusion. Believe me, it WAS the last thing i added to the model, i tried everything else first, but she just didnt look female enough. Now, the second lasgunner seems a bit, well thin, if that makes sense. Im thinking of giving him a poncho like the first one. But i wasnt sure of the pose in general, does it look natural?

Oh, in general, does anyone have an idea of how to convert up some juves? in my list im running four of them, but i want them to look like kids, as opposed to normal kroot. I have no clue as of yet, so anything goes.

Awww, my heart sank a little when I read that. Sorry for the delay in comments/feedback but I have been mighty busy with clients and getting prepped for the move into my new pad. Thanks for the mention as well, it's good to see that migs' and the other 'munda fans are inspiring others to put together gangs.

The kroot gang so far look wicked, even the female model with her mad max-esque breastplate. Will she feature a brighter skin tone to further accentuate her sex? Also, for your juves you should shave down or completely remove the spines on their heads - as if to imply that the barbs grow over their lifetime and their size indicates that they're juvenilles. Additionally you could cut down the legs and shorten the arms some - but with four models that could be fiddly. All in all a kroot gnag based on escher skill tree would be wicked to play against - I look forward to some updates and battle reports in the future, I will be paying particular attention to how the hound fairs on the field.

Darkvoidof40k wrote:My friend, more than three Juves never ended well for anyone (as far as poking my head around dakka has proved).

I wonder, did you take autoguns on some of your 'gangers' because it is probably the closest thing to a kroot rifle, or credit wise? o.O IMO lasgun is the best basic weapon there is.

Also, you may have Kroot, but just wait till you see some of the Ork v Orlock games I intend to post.. hehe. BTW there are ork rules out there FYI.

But yeah, your list is seriously lacking any firepower. While it's not particularly 'krooty' to carry around heavy weapons, you could say one of the strongest Kroot took a -insert name of kroot gun mounted on the back of the krootox... possibly a 'krootox gun'?- and walks around with it. Could be a H stubber, or better a heavy bolter or best of all (fluffwise), an autocannon.

-checks Rulebook-

Well, considering the only H weapons escher can take is the H stubber and heavy plasma gun (<= fun ) then.. ugh.

Perhaps, you should use a different houses' weapon list to represent them?

Cawdor would be good to represent the shootyness... but just meh. I'm sure you'll agree.
-checks Rulebook-
Y'know what, I've been thinking this awhile, and it seems I'm right (IMO). House Goliath are the best house to represent the kroot, IMO, because they have a large array of CC weapons, which is great for kroot! And as for their shootyness, their array of "bullet" weapons is good for Kroot, considering the types of weapons they use. The Autogun is probably good.

So, IMO, I'd use the Goliath weapons list for kroot, and give the heavy an autocannon to represent the krootox gun. The "gangers" would have any of the CC weapons listed for 'em, although some would make more sense to have than others. The Autogun is the best choice to represent the Kroot guns. [/endpost]

Yeah, I said it on your other thread. But it is appropriate here, too, I believe. for those conversions!

Those Kroot look great. I can't tell if you added the back spines for the female, but besides that, I think a more colorful paint job would make her stand out from the boys. Most species have one gender or the other with more color or something to make them more eye catching than/to the other gender.

As for the Juves, have you tried thinning out their spiny bits? Something that might be too much work (for me at least) would be to shorten their body parts to simply make them smaller, but just a little.
I think thinning the spines is the best bet. That and a softer paint job to make it look like the baby bird feathers.

I also rather like the pose of Kroot w/lasgun 2, and that tip about bending the squatting kroot forward at the toes is a great one.

Ok, i blaintantly lied when i said i would post up the picture, but its only because i found it under a pile of books, irreplaceably crushed. It seems my gang is doomed to fail :(

In other, and lighter news, i played a zombie survival with my mates today It went well, and, as it was my turn to be the evil mastermind (My characters died in the last game) im proud that i managed to pull down the cleanup team, and devour them. Thats one less annoying NPC unit to worry about

Ok i lied again, i AM going to post some WIP pictures, after i recieved a gift about 5 minutes ago.
As i said in my previous post, i came home from school, and found my heavy had slipped and fell to the ground, only to be crushed in an avalanche of books. I showed my dad with a heavy heart and forgot all about him, and, to my shame, the entire gang. Its just the whole experiance hasnt been very furfilling- First My models are nicked, then my heavy is smashed, then some snotty kid at the GW said they looked gay.... When its not raining, its pouring apparently.

So first on my list is only a slight change. I showed you my second kroot, the one with the lasgun, and commented on how i disliked the pose. Even after your reassurances that it looked nice, i wasnt convinced, so i changed him. I think it conveys a nice MGS snake pose theme. What do you think?

I think it looks ok, but im still not entirely happy. Maybe i should just scrap the modal, and remake another lasgunner?

Im not sure if these two entirely deserve to be counted as updates, but.... *shrug*

Essentially, i realised that the majority of my kroot had the closed mouth head variation, which i think looks cooler. However, this has led to me using it more than the other heads, which would be fine in normal circumstances, but in a two head variation gang, it makes things difficult. So, he changed his head.

The other minor change, was on my origonal lasgun kroot. He's fine, except i wasnt pleased with the GS filling on his leg. To remedy this, i made a strap that covered this, and attatched a knife. I think it works.

Your oppinions?

Now, for a little story that i'd like to share with you. As i previously mentioned, i gave the remains to my dad, or, more came and showed him, in a bit of distress, and he was shocked and confused as too how the kroot ended up like this. Now, it was eventually blamed on the cat (damn furrball!) I then left the obliterated pieces where they were, and forgot about them. And, as prieviously mentioned, the whole gang - i just felt like giving up. However, my dad, he was not in the same frame of mind as i was. It turns out, that he used to make alot of airfix kits in his time, as well as made a few sculpts. Who knew?! Well, after i left, my dad's brain went into overdrive, and he worked in secret, on the heavy. A devestated leg? No problem! a half mulched face? Easy! A horribly scarred body? Cover it with plates! Essentially, he rebuilt my entire Heavy, to a standard well above its origonal. He also put it in a cooler pose. Well, he gave it too me just now, and, well.... I love my dad

So heres the pic's of his masterpiece.

and an alternate pose, showing the ingenious use of a fuel can, that was lying in my bitz box, that he cunningly cannibalised.

And if thats not all, apparently i had left the house a couple weeks back with my laptop still up, with a google search of Kroot Vultures, and my notebook with ideas scribbled down. Now, my father, dutiful as ever, set himself a target to make me one as an after exam presant. I honestly dont know whats got into him recantly. Maybe a hint of nostaligia perhaps? Maybe he just found himself enjoying modelling. Who knows? So, he also showed me the vulture, which is mostly done, it just needs bird feet and wings apparently. I think its absolutely amazing. What do you guys think?

Oh, that image doesnt show off the work on the back. I think this one shows it more clearly.

Proud of my dad? Yes. Not bad for a break from modelling thats longer than my entire life. Now, we have the problem of feet and wings. Namely, we dont have any. Anyone got any ideas for where to obtain bird feet and wings?

PS. I love my dad!
