Sure... but I'll stick to basic mechanics.

Activation style: Alternate (back and forth, each activating a unit).

Unit Characteristics:

Movement: 6/10" First is moving cautious, second is at a run.

Damage: example - D10 Ranged, D6 CC

Hit Number: This is the number enemies need to roll to hit you. Example... 4+.
Kill Number: This is an instant death score. If you roll this number or higher to hit this model it dies with no armour save.

Save: Example 3+ on a D6 for heavy infantry, 5+ for light.

So an example. I'm shooting 3 Mobile Infantry with Morita rifles at a unit of Warrior Bugs. I roll my 3D10s and get a 5, 2 and 9.

The Warriors have a Hit of 4+ and a Kill of 7+. My 2 misses, the 5 hits and the 9 kills a bug outright with no save.

The Bug player removes a model and rolls an armour save for the other one.

There's other stuff, like being able to shoot during your opponent's movement and stuff but those are the basics. Battlefield evolution still uses these rules if you're interested in checking them out. You can buy it in PDF from Mongoose.

You all don't understand. I'm not locked in here with you; you're all locked in here with me.

God, do I miss SST. Bought and painted 60 light armour MI dudes. Month later, the decline begins.

I believe that it developed as Battlefield: Evolution and is now open-licensed. You can download it to read, and I found that my own tweaks to Andy Chamber's original rules were virtually the same so I put my Starship 40k rules on the back-burner. I should get back to them. Seriously though, look up Battlefield: Evolution. There's a very good series of books using it as the engine for games of Gear Krieg out there as well.

I remember when the SST minis came out. Me and My brother thought they were really cool. But we didn't get into it because we liked 40k more.

So the range failed. Doing something based off movies is very risky. Like LOTR. Soon that awe and interest for the movie will fade away. That is why nobody is playing the LOTR games. That was in 2003.

Nobody is playing SST anymore. My Opinion is to consider deeply. If you got a friend to play with. Then it's fine. Andy Chamber's wargaming career really went down hill after SST.

Andy works for a little company called Blizzard entertainment these days, so yeah his career has really gone down hill.

COMING SOON TO CHANNEL7 - The insidious masterminds of HADES are constantly threatening the free nations of the world through acts of terror and theft of top secret equipment. The scheming Elliot Fontaine is trying to dominate the world market with his Fontaine Industries products. The evil Red Empire is encroaching upon the world with its armies of misguided minions. The rules for sst were actually really good and it's decline certainly had nothing to do with Andy Chambers.

Mongoose took a fantastic game system with an amazing license then completely and utterly ruined it whilst screwing over those of us that supported them at the same time.

Rumour has it that they are attempting to get back into wargaming with a mystery project. I hope to god they are not bringing back SST.

Nice!

I started a thread, a while back before I read the open-license Battlefield Evolution rules, about using 40k models with the SST rules. Might be interesting to people: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/222251.page

Once you have the figures and the rules, who cares if it later fails on the retail market. You can still play it for the next 50 years.

Yeah he last did a lot of the creative development for the soon to be forgotten Starcraft 2 game.

Well, they already revealed it. They rehashed their A Call to Arms ruleset in a new setting.

Apparently, Chambers did get a joke written in for WoW: Cataclysm.

In the Goblin starter zone, one of those "ideas" that you can get from the soda is "Genius! Dwarves. In. Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!"

They are movie M.I. Very much dressed like a Guardsman, not in power armor or anything like it.

Agreed.

I look at SST sort of like Space Hulk: something you break out once in a while to scratch a specific itch.

Who doesn't love crawling through the dark corridors of an alien infested space Ship?

Likewise who doesn't love playing trying to hold back a horde of arachnids intent on consuming you and your fellow Rough Necks?

Not to mention all the good movie lines you can quote, etc.

Good times.

I just posted in another thread about this. I picked up the starter box and couple extra squads of troopers and marauder suits for basically nothing at Dragoncon a couple years ago. I never did get to play though. I really need to finish assembling those guys and paint them up. You never know when you might get sick of your regular games and want a change.

Twas wondering if anyone has a complete list of the released minis/books for SST?

Even though the game died a death, it looks like splendid fun, and if I can find some of the stuff for a reasonable price I might go for it.

is it the same size as 40k?

~2300 IG

Chimeras > rhinos (course then again piling a regular squad out of a chimera usually creates a scene similar to Omaha beach during D-Day)

Pretty much.

The MI and LI are about the same size as 40k (they aren't horrendously out of scale though - unlike the 40k 'normal' humans and 7' tall powered armour freaks which are the same size).

*Insert obligatory warning that Brake fluid MUST be disposed of properly (not just tipping down the sink or drain). I have three mechanics in my street. YMMV. Simple Green struggles with enamels.

W/L/D for 2011: Is your life really so empty that you need to know this stuff?

*Insert obligatory Jes Goodwin "Marine models ARE true scale, it's just the other sculptors that can't get the sizes right" remark*

I actually purchased the rule books and my friends and i have started to play but a number of things confuse us.

1. When a morita hits models within 6" does the whole squad roll again for hitting the other models or is every individual roll applied to models within 6"?

2. tunnels. i feel thats all be said.

3. Why does the core rules allow 8 man MI squads and the MI army book only allows squads of 5?

4. Can someone just drive here and just teach my friends and I?

Some of your questions I'm not even sure what you're asking...

Tunnels are basically just the tunnel entrances. You're not digging actual tunnels around. When units are underground, you can move them directly towards or directly away from an entrance at full speed, otherwise, if you want to move them in a direction not covered by a tunnel entrance, then you need to use a ready action before moving.

You start by purchasing a squad of 5, then can purchase extra men.

The thing I loved about the game is how they created this fascinating hybrid of the film, animated series and original novels.

+1 to the question about who makes them now? where can I buy them? and if it really is dead as a doornail, what are next week's lottery numbers so that I can win it and rejig the whole thing?

If your answer to 'where can I buy them' is ebay then thats cool, I just hope there are some still there when I recoup my losses from this trip abroad that I'm on. And if the answer is 'from me' same deal, if you haven't got adds up yet....patience! can't have someone buying those mini's before I can have a crack

Starship Troopers is dead, Love Live Starship Troopers.

The molds are gone, I can tell you that for sure as we tried to acquire a few of the bugs to re-purpose various parts.

As for the rules... Currently beta testing 3rd Edition, Warclaw. (Battlefield Evolution being 2nd Edition)

Are those rules actually for SST? or is it for another game which just uses the same rules but different models etc?

And thats a shame about the moulds, so hand me downs from ebay are my best bet? Or old fellas getting bored with their toys?
