Hey,

Let's review the Chaos LatD Units affected by the upcoming Codex.
We can try and decide whether any are less balanced than before, or merit 'consent':

HQ
Sorcerer/ Lt.
We will still have Sorcerers. A Lt will be a Sorcerer with no Psi.
We'll be limited to the weapons options for the Sorcerer, though.
I don't see where the new option could be considered unbalanced.
Especially considering the new costs . . .

Champs
We'll still have Champs too, but gear options will be pretty slim.
This means they'll be toned-down and shouldn't require permission.

Greater Daemon
GDs will still be in there. Such as they are.
Again, so weak now they won't need permission.

Elites
Possessed
Still in. Still nerfed.

Daemons
Elite Daemons are still in.
Only Nurglings got hosed.

Troops
No more Lesser Spawn. Pity.

Fast Attack
N/A

Heavy Support
Defiler
Brutally nerfed.

Allied HQs
Lord, Sorcerer and GD
Same ol', same ol' afaict.

Allied Elites
We're trading Obliterators for Dreads in the new Codex.
No opponent's going to miss seeing Obliterators in LatD armies.

The two Allied Troops choices are a safe bet since they're all pretty tame.
(Cult Troops Units would still be counted as Allied Elites in the lists.)

The one Fast Attack choice just can't be Spawn. Bikes/ Raptors are still okay.

Since everything else is an IG or exclusively Lost Unit, we're good.

Except for losing the Legion rules since Legions are gone (thanks, Gav).

As far as I can see, there's no reason to doubt LatD lists are still viable.
Unless you're a LatD player . . .

I think i will wait for the book to come out before I comment on the content.

Let's review the Chaos LatD Units affected by the upcoming Codex.

You are forgeting that the entries for Aspiring Champs, Agitators and Mutant boss reference the soon to be non-existent chaos armory. There no way to know what gear they can take. Also, remains to be seen whether 'daemonic packs' will be what daemons are called in the new dex (probably called something different but could be wrong). Not to mention daemonic beasts are gone totally as an FA slot.

No, LatD as we know them now are history come September, much the same way as cadians and USF went away when the new IG and Eldar dex was released. That is, unless a new list is coming in a codex or WD.

But its not something that a page or two in WD or online couldn't fix.  Hell they did that for DA/BA when the new 4th ed C:SM book came out and changed the options that the fomer two codices referenced.

Hey,

"Aspiring Champs, Agitators and Mutant boss reference the soon to be non-existent chaos armory"

JJ suggested LatD reference the old Dex at GD Baltimore.
Otherwise, the referenced gear will simply be unavailable.

"LatD as we know them now are history come September"

Thank goodness they'll be back in October.
They're specifically listed as a force in 40k:Apocalypse.

Perhaps you missed the 'as we know them' part of his statement?

Hey, "Perhaps you missed the 'as we know them' part of his statement?" No. I 'know them' by the models I own. Statements don't change that. Playa

Then JJ is a dirty liar.

So maybe a horde or mutants or 3.  Its nice to see they are completely ripping them out of normal 40k.  It was just a phase apparently.  There is no such thing as cults or traitors... I mean when chaos manifests it is ONLY a big generic daemons not attached to any god and marines.  Also, imperial marines are essentially traitors waiting to happen because of course the eye of terror would never keep 10,000 year old marines around.

Sorry about the rant, I just finished a squad of (FW) traitors last night and then just read that link.

That's sad, especially when ForgeWorld is putting out such cool traitor models.  Doubly so, since anyone couple copy/paste some sections from the old and new CSM codexes and make it fully functional in an afternoon.  Heck, I'm tempted to do that for my own use.

Aside from the horde of mutants with powerfist AC/bosses, did it every get much Tournament use?

I think I asked this in another thread, but with armies bringing tons of tanks and everything turning into a huge template fest, why would you want to bring a lot of infantry to this? LoTD mutants and what not get hit pretty bad.
