I like the new Vindie. Too bad I can't be bothered to care about my marines at this point.

Love the ammo feed on the Mek's gun.

Hate the fact that the keep making models with single Lightning Claws. Who the hell actually uses that?

The Marine vets are decent models, but not really necessary. Maybe there's not much cost investment in metals so it's worth it to them. The one with Fist is nice. Just a good simple Fist model.

Too bad the Chapter Council is really the same guy with different weapons. I suppose I could just use the DA plastics and create my own, unique chapter council (for a lot cheaper too!).

As for the vindies, I don't really need 3.... but what the hell, its only 3 more tanks on sprues I haven't put together yet. They can keep the 3 razorbacks company.

The difference is that the Vindicator is actually a pretty good tank, whereas Razorbacks... (shudder)

The Vindicator is of course the all plastic update to the now very old design based off of the old Rhino body from ten years ago. The new model is based very heavily on the design of the ForgeWorld model that has been out for well over a year (two maybe?). http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/vindicator.htm

How many people are seriously going to shell out the coin to buy the apocalypse sized box sets? Is there really a need/demand in the market to support these?

I can see people buying them at 25% off splitting them up and reselling individually on ebay, sure that makes sense. But, are the apoc sets really going to be sold in an amount which makes sense for GW to combine them in the first place?

I know trying to understand GW marketing theory is like getting your mind around quantum physics, but why don't they just say if you buy x amount of box sets you get y amount of discount? The more sets you buy at a time the deeper your discount?

The people who still want 3 vindicators ( probably only the people who will start playing double dp double lash chaos, nasty) can still get them at the combined apoc set discount (i foolishly assume there is one). This would probaly move more product in general and not just the new stuff.

As for the models themselves. More marines in not so exciting poses, bleh. Ork looks interesting, but if you want me to buy orks put out the codex. Other than the ork the models look pretty similar to what we already have.

I get the impression that many of these monster boxes are not going to be permanent sets, but instead be available upon release and as they go that's it. I'm liking that Tau Rapid insertion force myself.

I have so many unpainted models. Right now I can't justify buying more models that I'll never have the chance to paint.

Hey 1000 yard Stair,

I dunno - it actually makes sense from a business standpoint.

Look at the contents of most of the uber Apocalypse boxes. If almost all the models in those sets HAVEN'T paid off their tooling costs yet - I'd be *seriously* surprised. So basically - the cost of the set is the resources required to make the box (negligible) and the cost of the sprues (also negligible). If any of those boxes cost more than about $5 for GW to make... Since the cost of a single medium or large sized box is still less than 3 or more small or medium boxes - GW is actually saving money over deals on the smaller boxes.

Anybody who was thinking "hmm - maybe I'll build an IG army" is probably going "ya know - that is a pretty good discount" . Basically, GW has finally realized that maybe we are a little price sensitive. By doing these "splash release DEAL boxes" - they are pulling in a fair number of "maybe I'll consider army X" customers.

It's a win/win for them. Cost wise - it isn't bad for them - especially the deals that are direct order only. They "pull" fairly large purchases from borderline cutomers, and possibly get new or regain old players. I'm thinking Apocalypse is going to be a SERIOUS profit generator for GW in the 4th Quarter.

Frankly - I think Apocalypse is the one of the hopeful signs that GW is actually waking up and realizing that they need to DO something to keep in the game.

Barring discussion of rules quality (I think they are headed in a viable direction - others don't. i agree to your right to disagree...)

1) It looks like GW is pulling the thumb out of their #@$ and realizing that more frequent codexes is a good thing. (note Chaos, Apocalypse, Orks are all being released in a very short time span for GW. There are also rumors that Necrons, Space Marines Redux, Space Wolves, and several "White Dwarf" army updates are in the pipeline. If that is the case- GW has SERIOUSLY stepped up their Codex production schedule. 'Bout bloody time...

2) It looks like GW may also be realizing "FAQs" have their place - and they really should be updated as necessary.

3) Scattering new model releases instead of releasing them all around the codex makes people spend money more consistently - instead of in surges determined by the Codex release schedule.

Myself, I'm looking at the Apocalypse backpack, a Baneblade, possibly one of the IG boxes, and one or more of the smaller Tau boxes. Considering that adds up to more than I have spent on everything GW for the past year and a half; pulling that much out of me in the span of about a month is REALLY impressive...

People are always looking for deals.  How long has it been since GW had a really good deal?  Only a few small splash releases come to mind and I don't think they were that great (i.e. black orks)  I know I'm tempted to pick up an army deal, maybe Tyranids.  The only downsize to these deals on GW's part is they have the potential to cannibalize future sales.

That's always a risk. when you run a "sale" of any magnitude. Then again; maybe their viewpoint is that if that people start new armies, or simply "rejoin" the hobby - they will get future sales they would not have gotten otherwise.

It's a gamble for GW. A strong 4th quarter would likely make the investors/stockholders happy - having a beneficial effect for the company as a whole. It's a small risk that they will damage future sales - but it also holds the potential to be a big "windfall" for them - possibly as large as the LOTR bubble if they work it correctly.

Every gamer knows that sometimes you have to risk to win big. Only time will tell if this was a good call or not.

But Yair! I posted your Spase Marinez! post...

Sigh. I know. I have the guys and am ready to go back to them, but they're on the back burner as I do my Skorne.

Frankly, every time I try to get excited about 40k, and I start looking through Codicies, my heart breaks just a little.

pcerretti and I are looking to convert the game over to Battlefield Evolution (okay, this is mostly his project right now, but I'm happy to tool around with SOBs and Eldar etc.), that might get me excited again...

I think they just put the destroyer lord on legs.  Which is why he looks disproportionate.  Oh, and they gave him a different staff.  That makes him a totally different model.

i play guard, and i am liking what is coming out for them. basilisk artillery battery (3 basilisks) and the emperor's first tank company (10 tanks...WOW), and last but DEFINITELY not least, the BANEBLADE. =).

i tell you, if they come out with something like the space marine battle company for guard, it'll start to feel like i AM playing guard. swarms of men and tanks? that is the generalization of guard.

Hey GamePsycho,

They are coming out with company deals for IG. Have a look at the other Apocalypse posts...if you're a Guard player, it'll make your day...

Me, I'ld just like an idea what's going to be included in the backpack deal, so I can start working out future purchases...
