Glory to the Victor

Wayfarer!
With a skilled hand and solid paint job, Wayfarer has clenched the first DPC2.0 Champion title!

A huge thanks to all of those who participated. Axiom, Cpl_Saint, Hans, Scarab, and even our benevolent overlord Yakface all took up the challenge and made this the most successful painting challenge to date. A great first showing and I can only imagine it will get better from here!

To find out who painted what check out the above for the re-described upload photos!

Those who were unable to compete this round, don't you worry, another challenge will come soon enough!

Thanks again to everyone who made this all possible!

For mine, I ran into a few problems that definitely hurt my score. But I'm not to worried about being 2nd to last, those who beat me did so legitimately.

First problem was that I really wasn't happy with the color scheme for a while, and am testing out some new ones for my IG which is really not very well progressed. By the time I settled on one, I only had a couple days to do it all. I am very happy with how the brown came out, but not very happy with the face and hands. I didn't realize how tough the vox-caster head was to paint. The black, never easy to do. Poor choice for a contest entry, but I think that I will keep the color scheme for the army as a whole (Any input on that?)

The other big problem, my camera is nearing the end of it's lifespan. But it does have a whopping 1.2 megapixels! I'm not getting the clarity I used to out of it. That, and I can't find the GOOD light bulbs I was using before we moved. New camera is on the list, will be after the holidays though.

As to the other entries, the Eldar was cool to see but I think the sculpt hurt him a lot. There just isn't much you can do with a figure that simple, but kudos for going with the most basic infantry in the whole list. Definitely kept to the spirit of the contest.

The Ogryn, I want better photos. If he did what I think he did, it must look great in person.

The Kroot... Fantastic conversion work, love the kroot rifle for a leg. Great painting work too.

The Paladin. He earned his win. I keep forgetting how fancy the basic infantry gets in other games. And in white? Wow.

Tyranid Warrior. Looked neat, good painting. I just never like the red/blue combo.

The Sniper. Neat figure, the whole look has character.

Can't wait to see what the next challenge is.

I hate making signatures:
Mainly because my sense of humor is as bad as my skill at this game.

I just wanted to say thanks for the votes. Not just the ones for me but all of them. I like to see all the activity in this particular subforum.

I would definately like to see some better pics of the ogryn.

I'd also like to thank Yak for the DCM because I think I have that now. I didn't even think that there was a prize for this contest.

I'm really looking forward to the next contest we have as well.

I just want to say:

I WUZ ROBBED.

Okay, I never thought I'd win and Wayfarer's paint job definitely was much better than mine but choice of miniature was clearly key, with a Tyranid Warrior not being very personable. I did do some conversion work on the model's leg, but it still looked pretty stock and I think that definitely hurt me.

Of course, I was really just entering something to help bolster the painting ranks, it would seem totally wrong if I won.

Anyway, maybe I'll actually paint a non-Tyranid model next time, but probably not. Who knows.

Hey all,
Thanks to grey-death and well done to Wayfarer (nice painting!)

Funnily enough, my vote went to the tyranid warrior – I always admire a nice clean paint job; and it's a striking colour combination.

As grey_death asked (and since quite a few people wanted some better pics, I've done a discussion of the Praetogryn here:

Hope it's useful!

Indeed, thanks to everyone for supporting the contest and special thanks if you liked the Kroot. He was fun to do.

Only 3% of the vote!! No old school fans on dakka then

Some great entries and deserved winner, although my favourite was the Kroot for character!

My approach was to dig in my Eldar collection and pick out something a) cool (hence a model which is 20 years old), b) something people may not have seen before and c) as infantry as you can get.

Most of the Rogue Trader Eldar were over-equipped with multiple weapons, power weapons, power fists, or melta guns. My entry is one of the only RT Eldar to be armed with a very simple laspistol.

Matching up with the simplicity of the model, I kept the scheme very simple, although it's been fun using the foundation paint red.

In hindsight, I suppose not everyone likes the simple niaive style of 20 years ago, and I could have gone a little more to town with individualising the figure with runes.

Good work all

I appreciated the old-school model, but I think you would need to go with something a little more unique than a basic Eldar warrior to really get those "cool model" kind of votes.

I think we might do some sort of old-school theme at some point in one of these painting competitions where the older the model the better!

It sounds cool but might be a bit restrictive. A lot of people have had "purges" (mine was 10yrs ago), and some people are simply too young to have ever owned any old school stuff. Thinking about my pile of stuff at home the only old school thing I have is an RT Guard officer.

Obviously it wouldn't be the oldest model automatically wins, it would be: find the oldest cool unpainted model you have in your collection and finally get around to painting it. Obviously you could paint a newer model, but then that isn't going to fair as well on the cool old model scale.

Really its just an excuse to finally dig into your collection and paint that weird old model you love that you've never gotten around to painting.
