A bit more progress...

Added a little more detail to the kannon, and added an arm.

Finished off the second foot, adding the final hydraulics and a few minor details:

Built the first big shoota, with a platform to mount on one of the hatches on the Stompa's side:

Here it is mounted. You can also see the start of the Supa Skorcha on the front:

And added the plating to the other side of the body:

Still needs glyphs added around the body to fill in some of the blank patches.

And so here's what he looks like so far:

Still a bit of a ways to go... need to add the second big shoota platform, glyphs on the body, finish the head, add shoulder pads (which will include the mountings for the twin-linked bog shoota and rokkits) and figure out how I'm going to mount the rear-mounted big shoota. And add grot crew where necessary...

Additionally, after assembling him it became immediately apparent that the arms and the gun platforms on the side can not coexist peacefully. Every time he swings that hammer, he would rip the platform off. Grots are expendable, but there's no point wasting a good shoota...

So I'll be looking at widening the shoulders a little, to give the arms a little more swing room.

Maybe put the gun platforms on his shoulders, Gargant-style? Also, a big iron gob is classic, and depending on how you want to do it a "Gaze of Mork" style zzap gun set up to look like a gitfinda might be an idea.

He's looking great so far. The legs are My favorite part. They just look like they'd actually work!

He does seem to have a "I'm a box with legs and arms" look to him right now that I can't shake though. But, the shoulder widening might get rid of that some.

He'll already have a twin-linked big shoota and 3 rokkits on his shoulders. I think adding anything more would just get crowded.

Also, a big iron gob is classic,

The head is perhaps a little bland at the moment. Might be worth re-working the jaw a little at that...

and depending on how you want to do it a "Gaze of Mork" style zzap gun set up to look like a gitfinda might be an idea.

I was trying to stick to the weapons load-out listed in the Apocalypse data sheet. Keeps him more playable.

grey_death wrote:He does seem to have a "I'm a box with legs and arms" look to him right now that I can't shake though. But, the shoulder widening might get rid of that some.

That's my hope... between the widened shoulders and the shoulder pads over the top, the boxy look should be broken up somewhat.

Thigh Armor/Hip Armor

I had considered it, along with possibly adding some armour over the upper arms... I might still look at it later on, but think it might make them look a little too chunky.

Power Plant seems a bit weedy - Mo' 'Uge Pipes Makes it Louda!!

Yeah, I was hampered a little there by lack of space. I can't take up too much room for the power plant without removing too much cabin space. It would already by a pretty cramped fit for 20 boyz as it is.

Proppa lookin' stompa so far! I think the Hamma' Arm still looks a bit weedy. Maybe adding some more hydraulics and armor plates would bulk it up and do the trick. It just seems the hammer would weigh too much for those hydraulics to support. Beautiful detailing throughout so far though.

yeah, I too think the hammer arm looks a little too fragile, considering the size of the hammer it's swinging.

The shoulders will help with that fragile appearance.

NEWS FLASH- I found a postcard blowing down my street with an early-posted request to our favorite scratchbuilder from the North Pole:

Dear In-Santa-iak:

All I want for Christmas is to see a smooshed Marine splattered across the front of that Stompa's hammer. It would fill my little heart with joy. If I do not get my wish granted, I will grow up to be a Hasbro merger manager with a taste for English acquisitions.

Sincerely,

Little Timmy

Still going...

Ripped the elbow hydraulic off the hammer arm, and replaced it with a larger one. I also added an extra strut under the forearm to help bulk it out a little.

Started work on the second big shoota:

And had a bash at widening the shoulders...

I added some boxwork on each side to push the weapon arms out. These are supported by an assortment of struts. I also added a similar boxwork on the hips, to replace the tube assembly that I had their to begin with.

The boxes also help to support the shoulder pads...

And here's a shot from the front, with the (still WIP) rokkits and twin-linked big shoota in place:

On the downhill slide now...

Added an extra hydraulic to each shoulder, to help bulk them up a little. Also added glyphs and a few other minor details to the kannon arm:

Added some more detail to the second big shoota, and started work on the mounting for it:

...and started on the big shoota for the back:

Added mounting pins and rings for the rokkits, so they can be clipped to the launcher and removed when fired:

Added some more panelling inside, to cover where the two rhino hulls join, and the inside of the hatch rings:

And finally, I decided that with the shoulder pads in place, the head just didn't look right... It was kind of lost up there in the middle of those huge pads.

So, I shifted it forwards by adding some struts:

...and added a lower jaw and some neck hydraulics.

A little more...

Astute observers may have noticed that there is no magazine or ammo feed on the kill kannon...

The inside surface (the side closest to the Stompa's body) has a large hatch with a slide rail:

The idea had been that this hatch would slide open when the kannon needed reloading, and a grot in the Stompa's main cabin could pop out the side hatch and send over the next 3 rounds with a loading winch that looks something like this:

Awkward system, but seemed perfectly Orky to me

I've also finished off the two side big shootas... I decided to do away with the pistol grips and made them both remote-operated.

I also started work on the access ramp. Still needs another piston and some glyphs.

And yes, it opens and closes

ZOINKS!!!

That, sir, is astounding work, I *love* the fact that the hydraulics actually move! Are they just scratch built from plastic tubes?

Well, I say "just"...

Great piece of machinery you've built there.

I really like the shoulders and all of the detailing throughout the model. I still think that the main power plant is letting you down a bit though. But with the addition of the two rhino power plants, it's a bit more feasible.

The 'backdoor' is a nice touch ^_^.

So many great details. Awesome job.

Fantastic! Great work demon cat, that's rock solid. Great little details like the ammo winch and remote shoota hook-ups make it an ace

I think it's great, but don't you think its head is a little... symmetrical?

Not really. Pretty much every Stompa on the planet has one round eye and one square one. I wanted something different, and so tried to make the head look like it was taken straight from the same rhinos used for the body. It's orked up with patches and the jaw... it doesn't need to look exactly like every other Stompa head.

That's my thinking, anyway.

GREAT job!!!

I still remember the usual "template" for Stompas where they have almost a "skirt" over the feet, so this is a little odd getting used to. Though it would compromise the forward-leaning position that I like. Anyway... it looks awesome and I can't wait to see it painted up!

I guess it's OK. Y'know for a start.

Kind of test model for your gargant made from 2 baneblades right?

Kyoto-san was a humble government worker. Everyday he shuffled
from his house to the embassy, bearing documents to be signed by
great public officials promising big promises between his native land
(so far away) and "the Red Land" (where all government officials learn
their trade). He did not meet the eyes of those that signed or sent him
with orders to get signed. His eyes remained low, bowed, respectful,
and Kyoto-san only ever saw the folded hands, the desks, and the
feet of those men in power above him.

In this way, Kyoto-san lived. - Malfred
