I'm trying to fathom their goal with such a horrible scheme. The only thing I can come up with is that maybe they're worried that some new players will only buy a few models and lose interest. Maybe they want those people to make a HUGE monetary investment while they're still excited about the game? GW just has the worst habit of treating it's loyal fans as though they have bottomless pockets. Sometime I wonder if they're TRYING to drive off their customers and go out of business...

They're trying to scrounge money from stupid people. I've noticed GW's making box deals less of a deal, stupid people buy them without adding because of the colors, the COLORS! LOOK AT THE PRETTY COLORS!!!.

Look at the IG battalion and the recent Planet Strike "deals".

Yep. Some of the box deals make me scratch my head and wonder anyway. Like the eldar battleforce. Why would I ever buy that box?

Well, this is just a 'repackaging' of older stuff, not anything 'new', so this shouldn't have kept GW from developing or updating anything new.

What you should be upset at is the fact that this 'deal' isn't a deal at all!

To my knowledge, no. It's all standard kits and nothing special. It's not like GW forces people into purchase, yet everybody screams their head off hating GW for offering something like this.

The problem is there is no real reason to buy this as a package. There is no deal, no incentive to not just pick it up piecemeal. GW is basically telling us:

"You guys paid big money for other Apocalypse sets, buy this one too!"

The difference was, the other sets were actually DEALS, live the Tyranid Assault Brood I bought. This is nothing more than a bigger box with sprues at no particular discount.

According to what everyone is saying you don't save any money so why not just buy each component in the set individually from GW's website or one of their stores? I guess you have the benefit of picking up a single box in store instead of dozens. Likewise you only have to click "add to cart" on one product instead of dozens if you purchased it from their webstore.

In the past GW has offered large/multiple unit boxsets that actually "rewarded" the customer by making each individual model contained within cost less than if you bought them all individually. GW still practices this form of sales via things like Battleforces, the CoD Imperial Sector, the Planetstrike Imperial Defense Network, etc. So in effect you "save" money by buying the boxset because they are cheaper than simply buying all the units one at a time. Of course, the amount of cash you had to pay to purchase all these models in bulk was larger than an average unit purchase, but thats how buying in bulk works. You pay more upfront, to get a cheaper price on a larger volume of product.

And of course, no doubt there are people in this thread hating GW for this boxset simply because thats what they do - troll and hate GW regardless.

If this box doesn't offer any savings then it doesn't make any sense to me, unless it's filled with new models? But I don't think there is anything new, is there?

Just a thought.

Releasing this box gives a huge "OMGLOOKATTHATHUGEBOX!"-reaction to visitors at the stores, which will create some buzz and get people talking about Planetstrike.

Kids will pester their parents to get them that box, parents cave in, buys them a smaller box just to get them to shut up.

It'll be a flagship product that everyone wants but only the few (and slowed) can afford. The box that every pre-teen / post-teen / middle-aged man will look at with dreamy eyes wishing they could afford or just be stupid enough to buy.

So I believe that GW doesn't lose that much money not selling it. Printing the box and packing it of course. Compared to all the talk about their IP they get by putting it up I think they'll actually earn money from it. Even if they don't sell a single unit of it.

Although I believe they WILL sell tons of boxes though. Just not to "us".

However, it'll be like the other big super marine deals... In a big brown standard shipping box filled with all the individual products. Maybe two big brown boxes... So there will be no omg look at the item on the top shelf, especially since it is rumored to be direct only. You won't even be able to show off your super expensive packaging with pretty pictures.

Does anyone have an actual price for this, like idontknow a link to the GW website showing the price? So far I have seen "my local GW told me", "I heard this" "x told me" and even "I worked it out by adding up everything on the online store".

This deal is available at Bunker 5 for £500 with paint and glue. That's better than what Games Workshop are offerring. I'm not sure what that is in dollars but the store ships globally.

I'm not sure I have that much cash but I suppose if you wanted to split it with someone. Plus since it all comes sealed you could take the boxes to a local store to change for whatever you wanted.

Better yet, consider what the shipping costs would be, even domestic shipping, on such a large amount of boxes? According to the GWUS site, it's a further $90. Unlike with this direct only GW bundle, ordering this from Maelstrom yields free shipping.

Becuase when you offer something as a bundle deal...folks expect, well, a deal. Whether its electronics, games, models or anything else.

Bundling something together that costs the same as buying it seperate isnt a deal. Thus why people wish ill and hope it doesnt sell. Becuase it doesnt deserve to.

I expected the HBMC Maelstrom post earlier to be honest.

To be honest I ordered from them, it was nice, my order arrived faster than when I order from the US, which is strange cause I live in the US...

Anywho, advertising aside, I don't quite know what to think, it seems cool, yet its Vanilla Marines and as every one has said its got no price savings.

I do wonder whats next though, a Regiment in a box?
