I quit when I was 9, started when I was 8. I'm back in now and I'm 15, as I got into dawn of war and loved IG (before the new codex too).

I have to disagree with your argument that at 15-16 ish you are more likely to stop. All my friends who play with me regularly are my age.

Once, when I started college. It wasn't planned, I just slowly lost interest. About a year later during biochemistry class I got a whiff of some chemical that smelled exactly like plastic cement. I got all nostalgic and broke out all my hobby stuff again that evening. Haven't quit since.

So I guess I'm basically addicted to glue fumes.

I've never given up gaming, yet, but I do consider it frequently..or at the very least seriously cutting down on purchases and such.
Honestly,I've become bored with GW,the constant price hikes, the lack of interesting, flavorful codices and the headlong rush GW seems to be taking into the mundane and mediocore has truely put me off.
I've done all I care to with my Orkz, still have a few things I'd like to add to my Death Guard and am working on a Traitor Guard force(since I still enjoy the modeling aspect) and perhaps will do a small World Eaters army(if a decent Legions codex ever comes out),but after that,I'll more than likely stop purchasing minis altogether.
I'm sure I'll still game (I've got to much invested not to) but I see home games with friends as the majority of my future gaming.

4+. GW related mostly either through really bad rules likle 3rd ed, being screwed over in real life from one of their staff, stupidly high price rises, and of course my family and playing world of warcraft for a bit. Considered it as soon as I started again this year upon seeing the DA codex and comparing it to the marine one. If they had been the only army I had I would have just walked away and sent GW an email for making the army totally pointless.

Keep getting back into it though when I get the urge to paint again just need opponents now

Never, really. I've left it severely on the back-burner for years at a time, but never truly given up on it. Still bought the odd book or model, even if it wasn't anywhere near the top of the priority list =)

Looking for fun articles on painting, tactics and wargaming? Are you after a new regular blog to follow? Are you a bit bored with nothing better to do?

If the answer to any of the above is 'well, I guess' you could probably do worse than read my blog! Regular wargaming posts, painting and discussions

I started in about 1998 when I was 10 years old and gave up in 2002 when I was 14 because it was 'uncool' and I wanted to play guitar and chase girls instead . After 7 and a half years in which I learned to play guitar quite well and failed to get half as many girls as I would have liked, I returned to the hobby a few months ago after seeing Lemmingspawn's Iron Giants army on this very site. It occurred to me that the only reason I ever gave up wargaming is because I cared what other people thought about me, rather than ceasing to enjoy it as an activity. In my advancing years, I figure thats a pretty crap reason to stop doing something I enjoyed so much, and I'm glad I'm wargaming again (even if my bank balance isn't).

I gave up for a year a while back when I was playing , but I tried to field a troop heavy army with only a couple of tanks, major failure every game.

Then I started playing again last year and gave up for a 3 or 4 months

then I started collecting two months ago out of boredom, so I expect I'll be giving up again some time soon

I gave it up for a couple of years due to lack of time (2nd ed 40k) - didn't give my stuff away (except for 20-odd original harlequins) but ended up giving up tournaments for 17 years due to a lack of interest in them (or too many TFGs - I forget which).

I haven't been involved for that long, nor that deeply. I've played as many games as some have taken year-long breaks. I've never consciously dropped the hobby, but I frequently go for weeks at a time without picking up a paintbrush when life gets hectic.

This. Exactly. Need more players to play the game. playing with yourself is only so much fun and not worth the way people look at you

Arlington TX, but want to be back in Seattle WA

twice - a few years each time

to be specific I gave up when I was in high school after being into the game for about a year. stayed away from it for about 2 years....oh, wait, ive given up on it 3 times! wow. Anyway, I got back into it after highschool briefly because I worked at a Hobbytown USA and convinced the owner to start selling GW products. I used to get a sick 45% discount at the store but I got fired, so I stopped collecting again for awhile. Then i moved to Texas, it was a few years before I started painting again. When I did start painting again, I wanted to choose something easy in terms of color scheme, so I went with Ultramarines. I was making good money at the time so I was having lots of fun building up my army....until my beautiful daughter came along and I had to pick up another job to prepare for her....eventually I never had time to paint and just lost interest in 40k...so i stopped yet again. I didnt paint for about 4 years. Last january I was out of school and considering selling off my figures, paints, well basically everything. I decided, like a failing relationship, I would give it one last shot. I sat down and started painting, I told myself if I did it for 2 weeks and got no enjoyment out of it, I would sell everything. Well, turns out it was the missing segment to my life and I instantly fell in love with it again! And so almost a year later, im still infused with excitement and painting strong!

-sorry for the lengthy explanation

First time for any real period was when I got too pissed off by the rising prices of GW's products topped with my local store closing due to high rent rates and me not wanting to go to a less player friendly store. Second time was when I had started back up on a small basis, but life got in the way. I'm back into it somewhat again now, but the new rules bother me so its really just about the modelling side of things and fluff, and I'm predicting dropping out again once I've got my current army done and my social life takes over again, though I may still be working on a model every now and again. I'm just too pissed off by GW's comericalism. =/

Eh, I don't really care much for 40k. I quit it once for a few months, picked up, played a little bit and got bored again. I just don't like the game system. It's too simplified, at least where I play.

In a field of sheep...

when i was 13 i drifted off from the hobby, and mocked my then- old -friends-now-close-acquaintances for still doing it. i still bought WD for about half a year longer before i stopped. if i was bored i would spend a few hours on a model, but mainly keeping away. but then when i was 15 the hobby got back to me and now i am back in the game, with a LOT of models to paint. I still don't buy WD, really because i don't need it anymore for reviews or tuts 'cos i got DAKKA! (although the battle reps were good)

One long break but it was caused by life asserting itself... not a frustration with wargaming itself.
