My dilemma exactly! In favour of the scout theme - it will be distinctive from the other boyz, and if I work with the idea that more white = better you can see the progression in rank:

  • Da Deffwingz - all white in mega-armour, Nobz in top heavy white (trouserz and armour platez green - though the white armour platez endtransmission did on the Nobz he did for me look great too!

  • Da Rav'nwingz - all black - don't quite fit the hierarchy, but then, we are modelling after DA!

  • Kommandoz - bottom white (white trouserz, green tops and armour platez)

  • Regular boyz - all green

  • Grotz - going with farthest from white, maybe black and green? Perhaps with some browns... maybe green tops and brown trouserz...

  • Another option for the Kommandoz would be a camo pattern in white, black and green. It would also be distinctive, but SM don't tend to use it... That and I think I prefer the list above now... I'll just have to try a couple both ways and make a decision! (With the help of DakkaDakka of course!)

Its also moot until I get some Kommandoz modelz - tho I could paint up a regular boy that way to try it out...

Perhaps the kommandos can be specialist hunters of some sort.Think perhaps Ultramarines Tyrannic war veterans, except perhaps they could be geared towards hunting DA,or space marines.

    Just a thought though.

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

That is the problem as in the DA heirarchy scouts are the initiates coming into the army and so are half man half marine.

Another idea is to give them some pilfered bolters. They are blood axes after all!

His warboss is holding a storm bolter already, but more bolters is always an option.

Kudos on it all man, it looks great. Nice to see another non standard DA army.

Off topic: Where did you get the name. Arakasi is a character in the Daughter/Servant/Mistress of the Empire series by Janny Wurts and Raymond E. Feist, and I was wondering if that was it?

Hey, thanks for all the ideas! I think I'm just gonna have to try'em all until something looks right. Today I thought about doing their gunz (whateva they happen to be - bolters, sniper rifles, etc) in black (instead of red). I didn't think Kommandoz were armed with anything other than sluggas and choppas - maybe I'll add an extra large blade or axe to a sniper rifle to "count as" a choppa Actually I have a WIP boy that I really like that reminds me of Kommandoz - but he's wielding a shoota (with another one slung across his back!)

How about wrapping their sluggas in bandages, big blackened knives and ragged cloaks with bits of twigs stuck in? Make it look as if they are trying their hardest to make some camo...

I like the use of SM parts on the nob, they work really well, maybie use some SM banners as a bosspole or standard? Maybie make a nob squad like a command squad!

on the kammandos, they are like the veterans for orks maybe you could use the DA veteran cloaks and dirty them up in camo

I obviously should have joined DakkaDakka earlier - your ideas rock! Bear with me though, I won't be able to get around to all of them immediately... but I will be taking them on board - and will quote my "inspiration"(s) when the time comes...

Is it easier to follow this as a single thread, or should I start new threads for specific mobs/characters? (as I get around to them, of course). Wouldn't want any ideas getting lost in the jumble!

Yeah, keep it all in one blog, but maybe do a round-up post every now and then showing the whole army so far. That way everything is in one place and people can see the army progress nicely. I need to go back and pull all the my background posts together and update it a little before I start losing ideas.

Hmmm... where to start? At the moment I figure at least two (eventually). Da Deffwingz are going to need a suitable ride (looted Deathwing Landraider "counts as" Battlewagon anyone? ) Oh, and da devastataz (tankbustas) could use a suitable trophy ride too (suitably patched in orky style)

This may not fit in with the ork codex but you have got to have a nobz squad mounted ina drop pod that has been orkifiyed. another idea is to have some snotlings with servitor partsto make them look like they have been made that way by an inventive mek, copying a techmarine that he had fought/seen! they are all awesome though!!

You could have a drop-pod hung off a battlewagon via a crane with nobz hanging out of it? It would look like they would just drop it on the enemy and count it as a wrecking ball. Make it a bit smaller to fit the wagon or you could make the battlewagon REALLY big to fit the drop pod.

Would be AWESOME if a bit crazy!

Why do I get the impression that an orky drop pod would actually be fired from a giant catapult at the back of the battlefield?

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

You are getting them mixed up with Ork Roks, they fire them at the planet from a giant space catapult. the same could apply to an Orky drop pod.

I thought ork roks where giant meteors they hollowed out for space travel then crashed em into a planet to make an 'entrance'
