Yeegads -- thanks to all who replied -- i blush! 
glad you enjoyed it -- i had fun building it. I am always a little embarraased by my lack of painting skills so thanks for being kind.
as to what the base model was for the meganobs - richard at recreationalconflict

GW has "big claws" and other bitz
and a bit of plasticard loin cloth, random plates and pipes and wires
mix well.
I posted a few more pictures in the gallery - including the first of three submersibles and amphibian flyers - still works in progress.
when i get a little time i will post my first army "The Clown Corps" - i need to take pictures of it. It is a chaos marine army, with circus theming. It was done as a therapy since i am afraid of clowns.....

a conch shell - i ate the conch (fritters) some Crayola playdoh, some robogear platformer parts, the guns are paintpots and medicine bottles and other bitz and pieces
