If you ask me I like the bigger size, makes it look cool in some sort of way but that is my taste.

I hope you guys shrink it a bit . A lot of the heresy artwork suffers from fatty marine syndrome;

Oh, my PreHeresy Thousand Sons are going to look good with those! Excellent work, I'm looking forward to getting some of them

I'm not a Marines fan, but these are very good. Much better than the ones at MaxMini and even those were good.

Do the airbrakes come as 4 separate pieces or are there different jump packs?

Nick

P.S. I was looking for the MaxMini ones to see how ours compare, I couldnt find them on the site.

I also vote for the Pack to be a fraction smaller.

It would be good if you attached some arms to the test body to compare its size to the GW version. As is the pack looks huge with no arms on it.

Those look much nicer than the current GW ones and should go well with MkIV armour, so I'm certainly up for 20 of those. Loving the flaps btw, very nice touch.

Now all I need are some ornate, scorpion related assault weapons to finish off an assault squad or two

I'd second the request to put arms and pads onto the example model to get a better representation. In addition, I know this is late in the day, but would it be possible to change the position of the engines slightly?

Currently you have the engines and the pack in a straight line, which means you currently have a long, thin section connecting the pack to the body, which looks a little awkward. If the engines were attached to the central piece at an angle instead, so that a top down view produces a shallow V shape, this would bring the main body of the jump pack closer to the body, making it look like the pack is actually attached to the armour and still allowing space for shoulder pads and arms (I suspect I'm not explaining this properly...)

I would second the comment on them sitting out too far to the back. While I realise that they need to accomodate the shoulder pads, I think sitting them in closer to the back and raising the turbines up over the shoulders would have been better for balance. As is, it looks like the marine would have to lean a long way forwards in order to stand up with it.

Other than that, I love it.

I'd love to buy some, but I'm on the side of (it seems) about 50% of people think they are too big.

These will be a bugger to set up in combats.

I will start a brand new blood angels army just for this...tell me you have more equip in the same style they're beautiful!

I have some more stuff on my table.

I'm not a Marines fan, but these are very good. Much better than the ones at MaxMini and even those were good.

Do the airbrakes come as 4 separate pieces or are there different jump packs?

Thanks.
Yes the airbrakes come as 8 separate small pieces.

The pack itself is one piece, I tried to make it 3 pieced but the barrel shape and the rectangular body shape was to complex to do in separate forms in time.
So it is pack plus 8 small airbrake pieces.

As for shrinking, it depends if enough people will want that and on the insane cost it takes to actually shrink these things (detail quality degrade some with shrinking too).

It would be good if you attached some arms to the test body to compare its size to the GW version. As is the pack looks huge with no arms on it.

Nick will post a pic with full comparison and decked parts in about 5 days when he gets it home.

I understand what you are saying. I toyed with those poses but eventually settled for the look s it is today. I and a few people I use as taste-feedback simply thought it looked the best this way. Also, the area where the barrel meet the body is not thin and fragile at all.

They are already as angled as the aesthetics allow. Angled even more did not work.

Its also easier to cut away then to add in resin and I guess cutting away a bit to get it closer to the body will require a bit of trick making the arms and pads fit and look good but its not impossible.
After all, converting is part of the hobby.
I went after the ancient look found in the HH artbooks with its pros and cons so there is your culprit

Glad you like them Alpharius
You gotta show pics of your true scale marines when finished though, I demand it!

I think the fact the pics are on just a body without head or arms is a big factor to why some think it looks too big... I am pretty confident once arms pads and head are on, it will look spot on!

Oh and having it back enough to clear the pads will let you pose your assault marines in ways you have'nt seen before.... that's a win!

i want thse for my pre heresy skyclaws

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

I think they are perfect exactly the way they are. they are neither too big nor awkwardly positioned.

I plan on using them with some truescale converted 13th company mounted 2 per base on dreadnought bases for counts-as Thunderwolf Cavalry.

I have several of the old GW Turbofan style Jump packs, these look awesome, but as said before by many people:
They are Huge!

I think if they were like 75-80% the size you have sculpted them they would be perfect, but with the size they are now I'd actually be worried about the balance of the miniature.

Why worry, they will be in resin, they hardly will have any weight or effect on the model (not like they are metal GW jumppacks!).

I think there will be a huge difference in thought when they are on the back of one of my salamanders.

No, I bought them from Maxmini, they're resin and come in packs of 5 for around $7-$8 dollars plus shipping. I just had to make a squad when I saw them, even if Skyclaws aren't all that great in game.

So?
Ours look different.
Should I stop sculpting stuff just because someone else has done something similar?
Heck, then nobody would ever sculpt anything anymore, why do orks and elves when tolkien already did them and a gakload of sculptors and companies are selling their own equivalents.

Also, why do FW make shoulderpads when GW already made a shoulderpad?

Would it be possible to also sculpt a cabled cuirass to signify the extra attachment of the pack to the armour?
