No, it wouldn't. Whoever is the GK chapter master would only be trained in fighting daemons and heretics, so much so that he couldn't anticipate what a normal space marine would throw at him.

Q: How many Space Marines does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A: None. The Emperor IS MY LIGHT!!!

GK's sometimes fight with normal marines, and against CSM, so I think he would know, also in The Killing Ground, a GK termie capt. kiked the asses of ureil ventris (ultramarine capt), and his seargeant pasanius, at the same time.

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I Die, You are forgiven. If I Live, I will kill you." Such is the Rule of Honor.

I'm not sure they count, being Grand Masters, not Chapter Masters. That's a whole different league (besides, there's more than one of those.) IF those kinds of SM leaders counted, I think it would be a tie between a GK GM and the Custodes Captain-General. That would be a sight to behold.

Nah, if Constantin Valdor was included, the contest would cease to be a topic for debate. He's been the Emperor's personal bodyguard from when the primarchs were in diapers and the Space Marines hadn't even been considers yet. 10,000 old and still kickin'.

Give me proof that he died or will die of old age, or will see actual combat after the heresy. He never died, ergo, he is alive. He must have set a record for most terms aboard the high lords.

Aparently they removed that bit from lexicanum.

But he's not a psyker, so a GM would have some chance, maybe. It's not out of the question is what I'm saying, it's just not practical against a guy like that.

Valdor may well still be alive, but the Custodes have never moved from Terra since the Heresy.

I would say that it would be pretty close between all the FIrst Founding Chapter Masters, but more so Dante and Calgar.

Dante, Calgar and Tu'shan were the only chapters during the 1st Armageddon War and they all gave Dante the highest commanding role because of his eleven-hundred years of experience.

Nope, none of them were. Grimnar was the only one there

Scare Crow you're thinking of the 2nd War for Armageddon, but even then it was only Dane and Tu'shan and Tu'shan had only just become CM.

If Valdor were considered in this topic it would indeed cease to be a conversation. The visions of Heresy book tells of how Valdor was the only person outside of maybe two other primarchs to best Horus in a sparring match.

I'm fairly certain that he was also the custode who brought the leader of the brides of the emperor to the actual golden throne, the events afters this leading to the end of the Age of Apostasy
(Templars had already breached the walls and the space marines were flooding in with the mechanicus so it was only a matter of time anyway)

I mean as much as I love Helbrecht and I'm sure he isn't bottom tier I do have to go with Calgar (killed an Avatar in combat) or Dante(in his 1200 years of life he's probably done gak just as awesome of killing an avatar in one on one)

Up in your base, killin' all your doods.

I don't know, I think Grimnar is just as good as Calgar, and he's almost as old as Dante. He's definately with them.

Also, do the GKs have an overall commander? Like is there only one GM or something?

And yeah, Custodes are supposed to be way more powerful than SM. It's too bad they never leave Terra.

IMO the custodes would be the n°1 contender.

Or an unknown factor could win, like the chapter master of the Raven Guard.

I don't think there is one ruler of the Grey Knights, I think they kinda have a council type thing like the Iron Hands except its between like 3 Grand Masters or something like that.

I think Pugh could be an underdog, I mean as it stands I'd say Lysander on his own as Captain of the first company could be in the running. The guy escaped from an Iron Warriors planet, killing everything in his way without even his power armor on.

So whats this deciding? Whose best fighter or best Chapter Master all round?
Fighting i've got to give it to Calgar, i mean once you punch and take out an avatar of a god there's really not too much more to prove your great.
All round i've got to say Pedro Kantor, keeping the chapter together and functional after the catostrophe of Rynns World had to have taken an extrodinary amount of leadership

You love it you slags!

Though seriously, my money is on Grimnar.

There are a few. I'd put my estimates between three and a dozen. I think we've decided they don't count anymore, though.

I too would go for Kantor as best overall CM
I a one on one I'd say Grimnar would beat most If not all, plus he aint afraid to go against anyone (fought the ecclesiarchy just for coming to check on the SW) if he thinks he's in the right.

Sadly, I think this is actually true(as much as I hate abaddon). No other chapter masters have the supreme favor of 4 gods of chaos, or the masses of the black legion + influence/control over many other legions at his command. Typhus is definitely up there as well.

In the embrace of the great Nurgle, I am no longer afraid, for with His pestilential favour I have become that which I once most feared: Death.

Unfortunately, if we must go to in-game statistics, you are forgetting that if Calgar makes it to you, the 6 strength 8 PF attacks w/ rerolls on wound and hit are going to make Azreal into meaty chunks, plus the nice STR 4 AP 2 bolter attacks before he even gets into CC.

"Show me a man or a woman alone and I'll show you a saint. Give me two and they'll fall in love. Give me three and they'll invent the charming thing we call 'society'. Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home." -Glen Bateman, The Stand (C&U), 3rd paragraph of Chapter 42, by Stephen King

There is no Grey Knight Grand Master, they are ultimately commanded by the Ordo Malleus.

Anyway, Heres what would happen:

P.S: This is for laughs, don't take it litteraly

Pool 1: Calgar v Dante = Dante repeatedly jumps over Calgar, who continues slam the floor with his fists, thus smashing it and falling through.
Winner: DANTE
Pool 2: Seth v Grimnar = Seth begins spinning round in circles and Logans weapon is possessed by a demon.
Winner : SETH
Pool 3: Tsu' Gan v Pugh = Pugh cuts of his head to show loyalty to the emperor
Winner: TSU' GAN
Pool 4: Kantor v Azrael = Azrael hides, then Kantor begins to cry because of Rynn's World, then Azrael sits down beside him and cries over Caliban. Kantor stands up and squishes Azrael with his power fist.
Winner: KANTOR

Semis

Tsugan v Dante= Dante tries to scare Tsu' gan with his mask by sticking out his tongue. Tsu' Gan sets Dante on fire.
Winner: TSU' GAN
Seth v Kantor= Kanor does an amazing speech which brings hope to his followers. Seth, who is still running around in circles, cuts him in half.
Winner: SETH

FINALS

Tsu' Gan v Seth= Seth, who is now very tired, dizzy and amazed at how he got this far by spinning around, is overwhelmed by a bloodlust and eats himself.

Overall Winner: Tsu' Gan.

Remember, this is just a joke.

Hoping to get a Grey Knights army going...
