Two announcements made today:
Eric Hotz wrote:Three New Relesaes Planned For June: We have been working on three product releases and these should be released in June. One of the new products was actually completed in July 2010, but because of the complexity of the product, we needed to set up additional equipment. Hopefully, this will be completed before the end of this month. Our new print screens should be in our studio by Friday after which we will conduct tests to ensure they are working properly (last month one of our new print screens had to be sent back due to an error; this caused us a two week delay too production of the product).

Eric Hotz wrote:Record Sales For May 2011: We had record sales in May, which is both good and quite unexpected. As a result, we are running a bit behind schedule. I will be working overtime and I have booked extra hours with my crew so that we can get caught up quickly. If you have an order enquiry please send us a note via email. Note that we will tend to answer email late at night as not to disrupt our work schedule.

I was just about to make an order, now I will wait a few days

Quick question; don't these mats have the company name down one side in massive letters or have I confused this with another company?

You mix this up with Sabol mats, which for some reason are OOP currently
I am not sure, but I think there is a very small "(c) Hotz Mats" on a side, but very small, in decent colour and in no way distracting.
I can tell you more details tomorrow, but the fact that I have to look it up is a good sign in itself, right?

Is it possible to get mats with custom sized grids printed on them? I'm specificly thinking about getting a mat for large Dust Tactics games, and that uses a grid of squares that are 9cm x 9cm.

What a strange dimmension though, I was going to order some and I realized you pretty much have to buy a double to cover a std 4x8 table:

Full-size (72 x 45 inches/183 x 114cm)
Double-size (72 x 90 inches/183 x 228cm)
Quarter-size (22 x 34 inches/56 x 86cm)
Half-size (45 x 34 inches/114 x 86cm)

That's unfortunate.

Indeed. In a previous email or post, the manufacturer noted that the machine that they got their hands on that started their business would cut 72"x90" cloth.

So, they can do full, half, and quarter that size without much issue. Modifying the machine to produce any other size would be prohibitively expensive.

They do each mat manually, so custom orders are common. Ask them about the price.

For all people who can be bothered to search through the full 1 1/2 pages of this thread:
EricHotz wrote:Why are our mats 72x45 inches? (a much asked question). I started making game mats when I went to a friend's silkscreen shop, back in 2005. My friend was the floor manager for one of the largest silkscreen (T-Shirt/Sweat Shirt) shops in Vancouver, Canada. His shop was just switching over to a new system and were about to throw away all their old equipment. Unfortunately, the largest print size they had was 72x45. I could have spent thousands of dollars buying new equipment, or I could just use their FREE 72x45 inch equipment. FREE vs thousands of dollars. Hmmm... it didn't take long to figure out the correct path.
E.H.

Again, custom sizes can be done, at a price.

Hotz Mats now offers a set of single craters (20$ for 22) to put on their regular mats:

For specific board games like Memoir they developed this Command Game Mat with 4 or 5 Inch Hexes:

As a custom product, they also made a half sea mat to lay upon an existing other mat:

Today, Hotz released a variant of the European Field Mat (which is the mat I use for Fantasy games).

The new variant "Enhanced European Field mat" adds hedge rows and costs $58.99 plus shipping (without hexes, the old "non enhanced" costs $43.99):

I can vouch for the mats, they are very nice. However, they are mats and cant compare to a painted board. Its a bit textured as a mat normally is. But the price for this cost me around 50 dollars with shipping to sweden, which is a great price!
Here you can see my mat that i ordered this winter from hotz-matz, with a small Battlefleet Gothic battle tanking place in my garage.

These mats seem really nice. I’m really digging the 4x4 gaming mat and felt craters. I’ll definitely look into these as future purchase.

I bought one of the small-sized space mats for use in my Rogue Trader game. I went with 1.5" squares and it works perfect for the small engagements common to the RPG. They offer an enhanced space mat as well (more detail) but its a flat-rate cost increase. So I passed on that since I wasn't getting one of the larger mats.

Good product.

It is surprisingly difficult to find a tabletop representation of rivers that is good looking AND affordable.

Here is what Hotz offers (single pieces or sets for 7$ standard/14$ deluxe/flocked in 1.5/2/3/4" width):

As everything is handmade, you can ask for you favorite felt/river colour (e.g. blue river on sand felt) and other customization like lenghths.

Something new released today:
Felt Fields

• Felt Fields are airbrushed felt fields with silk screened flocked furrows. A single set of Felt Fields covers an area slightly larger than 20 x 14 inches in size. Felt Fields are designed to remain flat, especially when placed onto our felt game mats. Felt Field sets ship flat so they won't wrinkle or crease, and they are inexpensive: $16 USD per set and $14 USD per each additional set purchased.

• Each Felt Field Set contains six individual fields in four sizes: 4x4inches (10x10cm); 7.5x6inches (19x15cm); 11.75x6inches (30x15.5cm); and 9.75x8inches (24.5x19cm), for a total area coverage of just over 20x14 inches (50x35cm). Each Felt Field Set comes in a mix of 4 different flocked colors: Earth Brown, Flax Yellow, Dark Green and Medium Green. The flocked fields have been treated so the flocking will not fall off with normal gaming use.

• Felt Fields can be used for any time period.

actually, the original machines are that size (as are MANY mats) because fabric is usually manufacutred and sold in bolts that are 45" wide.
(I make a lot of mats and buy fabric for other projects as well).

I have also used these products (had to for a commission I did not have time to make the mat myself) and have to say, that they are excellent.

I also use the zuzzy mats (which are great, but your dice ..bounce ... a bit more on them).

I am strongly considering a hotz flet mat for AI or maybe the roads.

Anyone have any shots of the roads using 40k minis for scale?
