I second the notion for the immediate import of the cheese Philly jobby. We could do with more sandwich variety over here.

Hey! I'm the victim here, quit blaming me, fascist!
Yeah, I play Orks in 40K. Just started Necromunda - bought some Delaques recently, purely because I'm sick of charging headlong into certain death every game!
See, I'm thinking with the British track record regarding cuisine, maybe I should be Famine? I'm thinking perhaps MR should be War, as everyone knows he's a Neo-Con fascist gun-nut....
p.s. It's friday night and I'm 1 bottle of wine deep...

I would just like to take this oppurtunity to thank Monster Rain for creating such a fantastic thread. Things of true beauty don't come along very often, and we should all be thankful for such a gem of a thread. It is almost enough to bring a tear to one's eye.
Down here in good old NC we have this quite fantastic restaurant, Showmars.
They make the most fantastic pita burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches known to man.
This was the only pic I could find. Just imagine it 100 times bigger and delicious.

Well we folk from Phbilly do recognise that some other places make great sandwiches..... like Katz's Deli in NYC.
Pastrami made in house and hand carved, piled high on rye bread with golden mustard.....

My Missus, who is a Brooklyn native, states that the Pastrami on rye served at the Bodega Deli on Broadway is quite nice as well, next time we visit NYC. I'll have to give one a try.

Behold the mighty Monte Cristo sandwich. It's like a cold-cut sandwich with cheese, only deep fried.
Edit: Oh, and with strawberry jam to dip it in.

The epicest I've ever had was a corned beef sandwich from the Carnegie deli in NYC. There's like 2 pounds of meat on that thing, for reals.
But my favoritest is probably The Bobby from a deli chain around here called Cipriati's or something like that. It's thanksgiving on a hoagie roll. Fresh roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and turkey gravy. It will cure any kind of insomnia you've been having...

The correct answer to "Pat's, Geno's or Jim's" is NONE of the above. The best cheesesteaks are made at places without all the neon, etc.
Surprised no one's brought up Primanti Bros., a Pittsburgh institution. Fries and slaw right on the sandwich.
To be honest, they're very overrated...until you understand that they operate best as a 2 AM sandwich. At that hour (state?), they're incredible.

I'd love Genos or Pats if they weren't in the city. Yuck.
Jim's is good, but I prefer Main Street Pizza in Norristown, I tried like every pizza place around me that I could find and these guys are the best. They're a little far and it's always kinda cold by the time I get mine though :(

Here's my sandwich combo, 2 slices of Winnipeg style rye bread, spread mayo and and honey mustard on both sides, place lettuce on each side as well, then 2-4 slices of beer sausage and finish off with a slice of Havarti cheese.

I think that's a kebab. In which case, yes there will be bacon in there, along with the minced bi product of several other animals all combined and compacted together to make one new super meat.
Which is then packed together like so....
And heated then reheated every night to serve the drunken lot who fall out of the clubs at 4am. By the time you get there it's probably been there for several weeks and your getting the bit in the middle which has sat there sweating away with your name on it.

Now, now, whatwhat - it wouldn't be halal to have bacon in it.
And we all know how fussy pissed-up blokes are about that sort of thing, especially at kicking-out time. Emotions run high.

My personal favorites usually involve hitting up one of those off the beaten path, hole in the wall smokehouses in Texas, and getting some brisket. Usually a good pound or so. Piling it on some Wonderbread with some extra sauce is the way to go. Of course, the bread is just a formality. It helps cut down on the mess so's that ya don't scare off the womenfolk.
