Some of the pics are making me more confused... check out this standard bearer; he's clearly an on-foot model.

That aesthetic looks much closer to the concept art then GW's style. If it's derivative of anything, it looks more like the huge shouldered Orc of WoW. Definitely more my style then the GW style, but I want to see more before I'm in the buying state of mind.

I love the standard bearer. I really hope that's the style of most of 'em!

Also, no matter where I look I don't see a boar rider, and it's also not listed as part of the large army deal that the standard bearer pic is shown at...

For the pictures of the boar riders check out the link to Beasts of War (that first pick I posted is a close-up of the boar rider, I didn't want to just copy all of their pictures over here).

Seriously though, give the good folks at BoW a click, they do good stuff.

Very cool stuff, I get more and more interested in playing their stuff. Now that their Orcs are looking pretty nice....hmmm.....I may jump into that soonish. I also think their prices are nice. Thats a gak load of minis for the price they ask. What would a similar mini count fantasy army cost?

Agreed. Like its been mentioned its got a WoW style to it, and I like it. If thats what the armored Orcs are going to look like I may have to grab a couple/box when they come out.

Whats my game?

Difficult to say, since I'm not sure what you would compare exactly to. The best deal (which is always the largest) from Mantic is the Orc Warrior Bundle (102 Orcs for $129.99/75 pounds).

Below that, Orc warriors are offered in 30 ($45) and 15 ($25) orc bundles.

What one compares that to from GW is open to debate;

Orc and Goblins Brigade; 109 miniatures, but these are all sorts of things (38 Boys, 10 black orcs, 40 night goblins, 10 goblin spider riders, 10 wolf riders and a boar chariot) in this kit, $190. I dunno if that's a fair comparison, since I have no idea if that's a useful selection of models. Certainly it's not if you're looking to make a black orc army.

If you want to compare to just orcs, then;

100 savage orcs: (10 10-man boxes at $29.99) $299.90.

100 orc boys: (10 10-man boxes at $29.99) $299.90.

100 Black Orcs: (10 10-man boxes at $33.00) $330.00.

So, the Mantic bundle is much, much cheaper then the GW equivalent, but my guess, looking at the other, established, Mantic armies is that there will be different deals coming out with more diversity of models.

Yeah, hopefully we'll see more of that! I love their concept art Orcs. They look amazing. Wish the infantry had more of that aesthetic.

Agreed, their basic Orc infantry is...not so good. The shield shape is distracting, and the teeth look a bit wimpy. Still, that BSB is amazing!

No lie! On all counts, sadly. I was one unhappy guy at seeing their initial plastics release. These new ones look like the old Rackham Orcs I loved to much.

Are those boar riders plastic? Because that would be the hotness.

I have both their Undead and Elf bundles which cost £99 each and allow me to make around a 2500 point army without the need for anything else. I will be ordering the Dwarf and Chaos Dwarf bundles at the end of this month - these are more expensive (£150 each) but are larger.

Just to avoid confusion:
This Goblin is not part of the Ork range but of the Abyssal Dwarfs, as a nod to the sneaky gits of Chaos Dwarves. Was planned as part of the HQ retinue.

On the Orcs, I'm a little surprised to see that first mock-up. From the design art I thought they were going to go for a much more bestial looking Orc...which is highlighted in the drawing by the very small distance between its snout and its mouth.

But that first model pic shows a much more 'GW' style Orc face, where there is a ton of space on its face between its nose and its mouth. I'm actually a bit disappointed by this, as I was hoping to see a bit of a different perspective on the Orc, but perhaps when we see the entire model the uniqueness of the Mantic Orc will be more apparent.

I am liking the similarity to GW ork facical characteristics as I am excited to have a source for new head bits I can use with my 40K orks...

The orcs look good, but not a big fan of the boars. I'd have prefered a more original mount, for one, and they look too similar to the older, crappier, GW boars.

They are GORES not boars

I like wild boars splendid beast, so I don't mind tbh.

See, this is exactly why I LIKE the boars. The new GW ones look awful, and the old ones looked solid and nasty. Go figure.

+1.

The new "pumba" style boars are silly.

I like the armour detailing on these...

I just want to see more of the Orc range for Mantic. So far BSB and hero look the sex. The warrior looks the blah.

I reckon the GW boars suffer from "over highlighted skin itus" like the minos and stuff.
Agreed on wanting to see more! What options they have, especially!

I am very intrigued also. I was speaking to one of the dudes from Mantic and he said that the first two Sci-fi races were going to be Orcs and Dwarfs. Many people - apparently - have remarked upon the Dwarfs' rifles resemblence to Lasguns. I also asked whether or not the Dwarfs would get any tanks and such. He said he couldn't say. Expect to see ALLOT from Mantic this year!

I kind of think that their current Elves look slightly sci-fi too. I'm really hoping for Space Undead!

I am really liking the boars, provided there is some variety and poseability with them.

They remind me of the boar mounts from WAR which are far better than the GW ones.

Gathering the Informations.

You're likely to be SOL on the poseability and variety, MGS.

Mantic's stuff is nice, but it's pretty limited pose-wise.
