40K Talisman? FFG, my wallet awaits further instructions

My tips to a fun Talisman time:
Play with a good group of friends
Drink Heavily (if of legal age of course)
Don't try to win, everyone should try to prevent others from winning
Smack talk, victory dances, and coming up with ridiculous personal goals that have nothing to do with the win condition should be encouraged.
Dont be serious, Jokes and laughter are the sign of a good Talisman game
Movies playing and other distractions are perfectly fine.
You only really have one choice: left or right. Dont take forever to make it. Dont be passive or defensive either.
Angry or sullen is right out.

Great stuff!

Very very fond memories of Talisman V2, perhaps thats a bit of RTG but hey.

This, and I think 6 players is too many. 4 is pretty much ideal as it ensures an even spread of adventure cards for each player, ie encounters, loot, surprises etc. I've played 6 player games before and not fought a single encounter.

yeah,
I do want! I love talisman.
FFG make great board games, the card stock they use for the counters and board are really high quality.
I have all the FFG talisman sets to date. each one brings 5 or so new characters and minis to the game.
I think I have about 30 playable characters now.

The only gripe is their plastics are poor bendy things that are not suited for painting. But then again they are sold as game pieces not collectable figures.

But if they did switch to some proper plastic and made 28mm figures This will really sell!
Imagine if they released the game with miniatures that are transferable to 40k armies and release 5 or so such minis with each update?

I disagree on that - I've bought Polish edition of Talisman and all recent expansions and painted the figs - if you don't jump on them they behave more or less like finecast.
And they look great painted!

But back to the topic - take my MONEY!

yeah,
It's the characters that gives Talisman lots of replayability.
In Talisman basic box you get 14 playable characters. So I'd expect at least 8 in this 40k version to retain character choice for a 6 player game

The box art shown indicates a imperial vs chaos based game.
Looks like you can be a Space Marine - ( I think space marines will have more than one variety ... captain, assault, librarian )
Sister of battle, Inquisitor, Adeptus Mech priest
but I'd expect allot more

I wonder if you can play as chaos marines / daemons so that you have the evil - neutral - good aspect of talisman.

I'd guess expansion packs would be planned already to add eldar and orks etc...

Very much looking forward to buying this!!!

Maybe, but the box says for 2-4 players. Perhaps with expansions you can take it to 6 or more.

I also have found that more than 4 players turns this game into a slow crawl. I enjoy Talisman. Our group even has some of the expansions. But it can get really, really slow.

Booze makes it bearable. Just like most games. And some women.

Most people think 3-5 is the ideal number of players. and yes drinking is encouraged when we play.
my brothers talisman nick name is the 'crown warmer', as he always gets there first but rarely wins!

FFG has some rather... let's just say their figures are not GW quality and leave it at that. Fortunately for us, it should be beyond easy to make figures for this game given how much stuff is out there.

All of the Dungeons & Dragons and Star Wars prepainted mini game figures are the same plastic...and obviously they hold paint quite well. A bit of advise for those who want to paint them...and a flex agent to your paint...it allows the dried paint to flex a good bit if the mini does.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

Ah Talisman! I remember it well. What with all the grudges, vendettas, the quest for revenge as one of your opponents nicks all your stuff. Good times. The original boardgame was great, I thought the expansions were a bit of a let down. Still have all the figures for the original.

Game token most likey. FFG contrct with GW forbids them making real "models" for there IP.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

As far as I'm aware FFG aren't allowed to make 40K compatible models for their various GW licensed products.

Roseville, Minnesota (February 22, 2008) – Fantasy Flight Games (“FFG”) and Games Workshop (“GW”) jointly announced today that they have reached an agreement for Fantasy Flight Games to become the exclusive publisher of board games, card games (including collectible card games), and roleplaying games based on Games Workshop’s family of renowned intellectual properties including Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer 40,000. Additionally, the deal will grant FFG the exclusive rights to publish new versions of the classic board and
card games titles published by Games Workshop over the last 25 years.

Additionally, a second agreement between the parties will transfer the publication rights and system of the Universal Fighting System CCG, formerly published by Sabertooth Games, to FFG.

“We are just so thrilled to partner with Games Workshop in such an encompassing deal,” said Christian T. Petersen, CEO and founder of FFG. “Not only will we be able to continue the publication of some phenomenal roleplaying, card, and board games currently on the market, but we look forward to creating new games for the popular GW universes!”

In Fantasy Flight Games, we’ve found a partner who shares our passion for gaming and our dedication to producing the highest quality products,” said Andy Jones, Head of Legal and Licensing for Games Workshop. “ The legacy of our board, card, and roleplaying games is in the best possible hands with them, and we are extremely excited about the prospects of seeing some fabulous new games set in our universes as well. ”
"!is is the beginning of an exciting new era for the Universal Fighting System," said Stephen Horvath, CEO of Sabertooth Games. “Fantasy Flight Games are the perfect choice to carry on the UFS line, and fans can expect great new content and more fantastic events supporting their favorite CCG going forward. FFG will take over the production of Talisman, and plan to produce a new printing and expansions for the 4th edition of this ever-popular classic board game. Further, FFG will continue production and new-product support for the Universal Fighting System CCG, the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay RPG, and the new smash-hit Dark Heresy RPG. More details on FFG’s publication plans for these titles will be provided in the weeks to come. The agreement does not include certain GW titles in which miniatures feature as the predominant component of of the game, such as Space Hulk and Blood Bowl. The Universal Fighting System CCG will continue to be sold as starter and booster packs in a traditional CCG format. FFG has no current plans to adopt the game to its LCG™ (“Living Card Game”) sales model."

Bolded emphasis my own.

Talisman does not have miniatures as a predominant component. Nor does Chaos in the Old World (at least as far as competing with GW for models that could be used in GW games). Etc. etc. etc.

I am sure we will see miniatures in this, and like noted above, could be busts that are quite similar to Chaos in the Old World in way to make sure they are not stepping on GW toes.

Oh God...I started playing Talisman 3rd edition that had, for all intents and purposes, GW models in the box, and all the characters had Warhammer names. Part of the appeal of 3rd WAS the Warhammer Fantasy background. It's why I keep searching for a cheap Talisman 3rd copy, but don't bother with 4th edition. A 40k version....FFG, I love you already for Warhammer Invasion, and I think I just have to open a connection between your electronic hand and my bank account. This...this is a dream come true.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

The FFG version is actually a pretty decent game. But I also got a set of the 3rd ed minies and use them. I have to convert figs for all the new characters in the game.
