My alpha Grendlr might require a little more explanation.

So, I thought I'd get to the Cthonian before finishing the first part of this, but here's the start...

This time, a short review and some thoughts on using the minis in-game.

Thanks, yeah, I had a lot of fun with him. I kinda' want to try doing some Iron Warriors with the same techniques.

Is that the not-six model from zombicide? I love BSG, so I have been looking for scale models of it.

She's an official SW mini (hexen phaedrus), though is on the small side so would probably fit well with zombiecide from what I know.

Also, more minis and terrain, with more words here. Slightly blue, for some reason :/

Those mutant dudes look great! Sorry I don't know the actual names, but I totally like the way they look!

Great stuff in particular i like the glow effect. Youve really captured the environment of cyberpunk in a tiny base as if they were standing amidst many neon lights overhead. Extremely cool effect that i hope to master one day. Any advice on the topic would be appreciated

Sorry, it's been a while since I checked this thread. Thanks, Moltar!

bebop, regarding glow, my basic process is:
paint the mini normally
paint the ligth source white
find the highest-pigment paint I can, wash the light and surrounding area, smudging it very gently with my thumb once it's dried, to blend it
add some white, do the center of the light source, and the edges of the area around it
repeat with near-white, mostly on the center of the light
put another thin layer of the original light color down over the brightest areas, so they look less white

The other thing is to just pick a color other than white to highlight with, since it'll make it look like the base color is the actual color, and the highlight color is the light color, if you exaggerate it enough.

A couple more Vanguard, with notes as usual.

So, a few more that I just finished, including customizing many of my old samaritans and matching them to how I'm currently painting. (Notes, as usual)

It's been a long time since I've added anything, but a couple in a row (partially because I forgot to post the finished one whenever I completed it...). A few notes in the link, as usual.

The 'leather look' to the suits looks really cool. I think I'll try that out on some nercomunda scummers. It's something I've always wondered how to do effectively so thank you for the tutorial. The subtle head swaps really break up the rank and file infantry. Keep it up!!

Love your work!

Especially the subtle details like the hint of the face through biohazard suit guy's mask. And the blood streaks on the computers. The bloody handy print is a great touch. You definitely captured the space horror feel. Keep it up!

Thanks, ckig! Yeah, I was really happy with that mask, and was pleased with the blood on the monitors- they were looking really bland before.

Also, another zombie test (notes)

Your highlights and blacks are crazy :p It's awesome how you manage to show the difference between black leather, black weapons NMM(?) and Regular NMM.
I was looking up the kara model recently as an IG/AM proxy, but damn that limited edition model you got is sweet aswell ^^

Soulcow, yeah, it's taken a lot of practice, but I really quickly started to prefer NMM to reguylar metallics as soon as I half-understood how to do it, so I've been playing with it for a few years now, and it's a lot of fun to experiment with different effects on the same technique- a lot of it is actually just which steps you omit.

Also, yeah, the Vanguard line makes pretty good tech guard for those of us who don't have infinite cash to spend on Elysians (while I'm quite happy with how Sedition Wars finally came out, I still enjoy using them as Guard proxies), and there's actually a lot of legs in the line for using them (particularly those characters) as more of a SWAT unit or just regular old military. I think SMV missed a bit of an opportunity not going out of their way to paint a bunch of singles in alternate schemes...

Curious, how well do these models scale with 40k models? Looking for an interesting set for my inqusition retinue. Do the vanguard match up with the imperial guard?

Portland

They're around the same height as 40k guys (actually around the middle of the size variation) though with less cartoony proportions than plastic guard. I think they'd look really solid as a retinue, and have been bulking out my guard with them as proxies as I've been slowly building them up... and then they'll probably still be pulling double-duty as Scions since they've got the tech thing going.

On the game-- play with the errata! It's worth the download, 'cause a lot of people (myself included) tested the hell out of that game and got it to a pretty smoothly running machine... After the damage'd been done.

Was wondering, how well do they scale with 40k models? Is the vanguard force about IG? (Was thinking of making the strain nurgle zombies/cultists, and the Vanguard as something IG)

Sweet looking minis! I love the kind of oil painting style you've got going on.
I look forward to seeing more.

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

re: IG, sorry, I thought I got back to you- maybe Dakka ate the post or something? Either way, yeah, they're very close to IG, between the height of FW and regular ones. I've used them as stormtroopers/vets all the time.

Also, my latest is a Cthonian conversion (notes
