Working on three more bikes to round out the Ravenwing squad:

I took Dark Vengeance bikes and did some simple arm/hand swaps to make them less repetitive:

Thanks guys!

I'm waiting on more bases from Dragonforge to come in before I start on more bikers, but in the meantime, I've started a Razorback:

And the Razorback's done! This is my first time using transfers in a long, long time, and I'm pretty happy with how they came out.

I'll be painting another one of these up for second squad as well.

Finished the Deathwing Knights! They were an enormous pain to paint because of all the fiddly details on them, but I'm happy enough with how they came out. I feel like I kind of phoned it in a little:

They look good. There just are no particular features that pop out and grab the viewer's attention. It almost looks like they are missing the final highlight layer and edges.

I have to admit, though, that I am not a huge fan of the models. For some reason, they scream Warmachine at me.

I understand what you mean - I highlighted the whole models and did edge highlights, but unfortunately Screaming Skull is dangerously close to Army Painter's Skeleton Bone color, and I'll admit I was a bit lazy with these guys. I very rarely feel like I phone it in, but these models are so busy I just wanted to be done with them.

Those are looking great! The overall tonal ranges seem limited but they'll age.

Do those DA symbols and purity seals come with the Razorback kits?

They are from the Ravenwing Upgrade sprue.

Is that sprue sold separately?

I ask because I'm planning to build two DA Razorbacks.

I like the subtle conversions you have done too, what green are you using to highlight? It looks like Warpstone Glow but I'm not sure

Thank you! Well, they are Space Marine vehicles! I've done Rhinos with different colored patterns on the armor, but I wanted to get these hashed out relatively quickly and not worry about building up a bunch of coats of bone white to paint in the inset armor plates. What do you mean by "they'll age" though?

As has been stated, the DA bits and purity seals come from the Ravenwing sprue. It comes with the Ravenwing bike squad kit, and GW sells it on its own:

Some eBay sellers might have it for cheaper.

Why thank you! I'm using Warboss Green with a Skarsnik Green extreme edge highlight in the corners and on the rivets.

Thanks! I will order one of those sprues when I order the new codex for Space Marines.

By aging, I mean that the models will get a combination of fading, dust, and normal dinging as you use and store them over time.

Ah, alright! I've had problems with dark models left on display gathering dust over time, but my Dark Angels are sitting pretty in their KR cases so they should be good for the time being.

I'm still hemming and hawing whether I should paint Ravenwing bikes, Ravenwing Knights, and/or the librarian this month. I just know I'm in no mood to paint more Terminators...

Painted up the Dark Vengeance Librarian and the jawa from the Deathwing Knights kit. The Librarian paints up really quickly, and is a really lovely model.

Those are fun models.

The librarian figure is pretty much what sold me on the Dark Vengeance set. Well, that figure, the mini rule book, and the chaplain. I'll use the tactical squad as well but the Deathwing and Ravenwing will probably sit untouched for a long while.

I like the Watcher in the Dark mini. The way that you painted his sword and its handle is very appealing.

Are those resin bases or did you add putty to normal bases?

The Ravenwing are just as good models as the stock Marines, but I found the Terminators a real pain in the ass to paint. I love how they look and I'm super happy with the squad I finished, but they had so many niggling little details that I had to stop painting for a month. After finishing the Deathwing Knights, I'm pretty happy not to paint Terminators for a while.

Thanks for the props on the Watcher model! He's one of those weird little 40k-isms that I love so much, like those tiny creepy dudes wiping the blood off swords in the big art spreads and such.

The bases are from Dragonforge. It's a little one-man operation, but the bases are pretty stellar. They've got round, square, and lipped round bases plus some other neat stuff. Give them your money!

Great Libby!

And I second Dragonforge. He has some amazing bases. I just finished some ovals from him and they are amazing!

The assault cannons on the razorbacks, are they just from a landraider?

Thank you!

The assault cannons are from the Land Raider Crusader sprue. Unfortunately, I couldn't find eBay sellers offering them for much less than it would cost to get the whole dang Crusader sprue, so I ended up getting that sprue from GW twice. I know there are third party alternatives, but I'm a purist when it comes to my plastic.

I completely understand that. Worst part is when it is cheaper to buy the upgrade sprue than the individual bits online. That is why I bought the terminus ultra sprue for lascannons for my vendettas. Price of the whole sprue was maybe a dollar or two more than the lascannons themselves from a bitz dealer. With the added bonus of needed a few other pieces to replace some broken things.

Why thank you! I'm currently working on the Ravenwing Knights and I'm probably 75% done with them - just need to do highlights and finish painting the feathers. However, if I never paint feathers again, it'll be too soon! Joke's on me since I fought a couple Ravenwing Knights the other day and they were really tough to deal with, so I might add more in the future.

Finished my Ravenwing Knights the other night, just took a few days before I put them on their bases and finalized some highlights. I played a Ravenwing player and he had a squad that completely wrecked house, so I might need to add another squad at some point.

I played a game last night, and while there was entirely too much alcohol involved for me to remember much and I didn't really take notes, I did get some pictures:

This plasma cannon Marine got the killing blow on Fateweaver in the first turn, and was commended for his service:

And it definitely got a little ugly by the end:

The end of the game had 2-3 Bloodletters on one objective, a mob of Plaguebearers on another, and the Dark Angels holding the Chaos temple. I claimed the moral victory by taking the temple and killing both Fateweaver and the Keeper of Secrets, but the Daemons took the day.
