Thank you guys.
I have started to add the last little details - like a couple of servoskulls. I simply love servoskulls, so little and yet so characterful. Here is a small teaser.

Finally done! Really enjoyed the work on this guy, especially the conversionwork but also the painting. I kind of often loose interest once I'm halfway done with the painting, but not this time. Also I'm really pleased with the result, so I hope you'll enjoy too. More view in my blog, should you wish to see them. I've also taken the chance to upload the pics to Cool mini or Not, so should you have the time....http://www.coolminiornot.com/330144 .

Are you unhappy about the paintjob or conversions?

I am happy about the conversions for sure, but to be honest I'm not really sure what it is I'm unhappy about. Just a feeling something is not quite there yet. Hence the hope they will pop more once I add the last OSL, cog pattern battledamage etc. and get some color on the base.

Hmm, what about adding all sorts of purity seals to them or something? Or maybe freehand some stuff on their shoulders?

I think freehand will be the road I take. Either cog pattern or checkers

Why not both of them? One should in cog, the other one in checkers?

I would have prefered them with slightly darker colours and a bit more rust and battle damage. But still very nice paintjob and I love the conversions!

Yes I think both checkers and cogs will be present.

The red does come out slightly brighter in the pic than in real life - and fear not, battle damage will be added.
Rust however is a different matter. I actually love painting rust, which you will see if have a general look on my minis. All kinds of rust actually, and I have been experimenting quite a bit over the years. On my AdMech it will only be present on the bases, as I wanted to add it, but I simply could not envision a force committed to the Machine God, letting their equipment rust. Instead I try to work brown in to the metals using washes.
When I start painting my nurgle it will be a different matter...very different

I love your magos, and your menials are awesome. what heads are those?

I collect:

Grand alliance death (whole alliance)

Stormcast eternals

Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

Thanks a lot lord marcus - glad you enjoy the trip.
I take it it's the heads of the menials? - they are from Ramchackle games - they do look lovingly evil right!

Regarding the Defender robots, I have added some more details and battledamage, and I'm almost done now, save a few tough-ups on the bases and on the extra weapons. The breaking up of the large areas really helped the minis I think, and got rid of that slightly "boring" look they had earlier. I also changed the gatling mussel as the premade barrels simple were to tiny to drill out. Hope to finish them off later today, and take some decent pictures to night.

How about adding swarms of servo skulls to this army?

Thanks a lot guys, really glad you like them. Took me a while to get them right, so it's kind of rewarding that it's not only one self who likes how they turned out.

The legs are indeed the bitspudlo ones. Kind of messy cast, fragile resin -but cool non the less.

I love servoskulls, and will be adding as many as I can fit into the army.

I have to say I am impressed with the way you have put these together and the chosen paint scheme, this kind of force is not usually my thing but you have created something unique which has quite happily caught my attention

seeing that awesome looking army shot...i think your menials need now a splash of red to them to tie them better in with the rest of the army!

I see what you mean Viktor.
Actually the thought was, that the menials were so low on the mechanicus foodchain, that they were not worthy to wear any red. From a painting perspective you are absolutely right and I will have a look at them again and see what I can come up with.

from a fluff perspective i can fully understand you and it makes a lot of sense to me... but do you play or just paint and collect? if the latter then let them be as is...

I mainly build and paint - have a few games a year though.
Perhaps it will help later on, as up to 10 menials can be upgraded to C.O.G.s, an ogryn sized worker - and I was planning on adding red colors to those. That might actually bring the whole unit into color coherency.

What about some more high ranking Mechanicus figures? I'd love to see squads of robed guys with all sorts of nasty weapon systems from their limbs. You could use a combination of Chaos, Dark Eldar, Skaven and Imperial weapons bits with robed fellow.

Here some third party bits and bites that might come in handy:
