Proof by conspiracy. The act of two or more people agreeing with each other's assertions and holding that up as unbiased proof.
I can't believe anyone wants to go back to no measuring. It is SO much cleaner
If this was directed partially at me, I guess what I was saying didn't come across right. I agree, pre-measuring is a MUCH better system. It prevents all kinds of shenanigans. In 7th people would get upset if you shot with a unit next to a cannon, and measured distance to see if your unit could hit, and then you would have the exact number without needing to guess (all of that completely legal).
What I was trying to say was that the old system of guessing was pointless as a good player would be dead accurate each time so the guess work only served to slow the game down, or punish newer players.

Most of the arguments against warmachines seem to be more about cannons rather than stone or bolt throwers - is this basicly just because they're relentlessly accurate and dont scatter or roll to hit?

So many models, even less time.

It's because they are Str 10 and do D6 wounds to anything and everything they pass through.
A dragon's breath weapon is like a single Str 4 attack that does 1 wound at the most they can use once a match in a cone. That's a baby's fart by comparison. There's really nothing in the game that comes close to what a cannon is doing except for mega save-or-die spells.

Few monsters notice the difference between S10 D6 wounds and S9 D6 wounds.
I think people tend to field cannons more often than stone throwers.
Given how effectively both can kill, I'd want both whenever possible.

Oh, I didn't say they did. But it's like Spinaltap. They took it to 11. The toughest units in the game, which I think is T8, and I think there are only 2 of them, are still wounded on a 2+. They are basically saying nothing can stop this attack.
Of all the other attacks you can often do something as a counter. But you have to pretty much suck it up and take it when it comes to cannons or hope he misfires. You can try and get behind terrain, but that's questionable.
That's my opinion. S10 and D6 in a line is why it's baddass. Just think if a cannon was S10 and 1 wound or S3 and D6 wounds. No one would really be scared of them.

Yeah, you can get behind a building or a wall, or behind monstrous infantry/cav and hope the ball sticks.
That's why I find it odd people don't complain about stone throwers more. If I'm going to run a monster, I'm either going to saturate with them, so I don't care about cannons, or I'm going to hide and screen them with ball-stoppers.
Stone Throwers ignore the wall, the screen and even can fire out of line of sight. IMO, they are the bigger threat.

The center point of a stone thrower is the only thing that scares a monster. I'm not sure which is easier to hit with. I think it depends on the monster base size.

Cannon is easier to hit with, unless the monsters is out of LOS, behind monstrous infantry or being a wall.
