had a dust mite infestation in my garage/hobby room and what with all the cleaning of a million boxes of bitz, a number of poisonings etc have only recently got back to working on the guard, this update would have been a batch of finished guardsmen but i have been having some trouble with my nuln oil wash :(
i usually water it down a little bit and give each of my guardsmen 2 coats. this time however both coats have dried grey in some areas, basically looking like i havent painted them at all. if i wet the area again then it looks fine, let it dry and we are back to grey. have been over some of the areas again with straight nuln oil, no watering down but still end up with patches of grey, see pics

help me out please

have asked for help on various forums, searched google, opinions have been=
pigment imbalance,
too watered down,
not watered down enough,
not shaking the bottle enough,
paint in my water/on brush,
has it frozen/defrosted,
high humidity,
applying too much wash
or my own favourite, gw washes are crap

have ordered a new bottle, that cuts out some of the possibilities,
going to try a thinned down abbadon black to cover the grey patches for now and will try nuln oil again once i have the new pot.
i liked the effect on the 1st batch of guardsmen so hopefully a new pot will sort it out

To be honest the one that sprung to mind was weather conditions, the reason I say this is because I sprayed in the garage once with Chaos black undercoat (which had been fine before and after ) left the models to dry in the garage.

Now it was a cold morning and the garage was like a bloody Ice box after returning about 30 to 45 mins later it had just dried but slightly wet in the recesses so I gave it about another 30 mins to dry, after that I went back but found that the black in recessed areas was grey and some small raised detailed sections to.

I tried a black wash to cover this but when dry it just came grey again so ended up undercoating once more, so maybe adding a tad of the original block colour then washing might work.

Loving the conversions in this army so far! I have that Pliskin model from Hasslefree minis too, Cobra I think they've called him. I never would have thought about using him as marbo but it's such a good idea I may just pinch it.
Keep it up!

look forward to seeing your pliskin, every army should have one

annoyed with the fact that a thinned down coat of black didnt cure my wash problem i jumped forwards a couple of months/years and cleaned up a kurgan winter guard sergeant ready for ammo bunkers omam
Hello Comrades

this model is from mad robot miniatures and i have to say the quality of this model (and the 29 other guys i bought) is simply fantastic, no bubbles in the resin at all, which already makes it better than forge world and games workshop, minimal mold lines adds to this as does the crispness of the cast, i have to say, if you have not tried mad robot stuff then you should, so should gw and then they can see what "the finest miniatures in the world" should come like, not full of bubbles or bent seven different ways with a twist on top (sorry still miffed that my fw avatars top knot is hollow, my masters of the chapter had bits missing etc etc)
ordered these a little bit before xmas (possibly xmas eve) and still got them before new years eve despite them coming overseas, for a small company they seem to be doing things right and i wish them all the best

with a day to calm down and try again on the wash front i pulled out the guardsmen again, just figured i would paint the milky grey wash with straight abbadon black, seems to have worked, gonna call this batch done now, if i was to give them another wash they would probably look like i had resprayed them black, they are already much darker than the original batch but i dont care anymore, at one point in a rage, after the last wash, they nearly got binned, such is the life of a guardsman i suppose.
anyway heres some dodgy pics of some dodgy paint jobs

now, onto the kurgan winter guard, do i go with classic brown shinels or maybe green? currently leaning towards brown due to having a lot of fun as a russian in call of duty?

i ordered a model air brown so i could paint my kurgans in record time, stupidly i figured brown would just be brown and only ordered 1 shade, had to make another order and that didnt arrive today so i just fiddled about with the kurgan serg until he was ready for paint when it comes
changed his pistol to a more recognisable las pistol

added an old warzone back pack

in order to get something done for ammobunkers one mini a month challenge i started on another guard regiment
this regiment will also be able to double up as a necromunda gang if i can find any players nearby
this is either a sergeant or a gang leader, due to necromundisation he has magnetic wrists, only made a few options so far, hopefully more will appear if i get a game and he gets something different

have since tidied up the gs on the boots, also started work on his ride incase i get a go at an ash wastes scenario or rough riders are still in the new dex, no pics yet but hopefully some next time

got a bit more done to his bike, this is another mad robot model, an azog treadbike, quite simply, i love it!
its like a mini tank, so much more weight to it than a scrambler type thing and yet its still not crazy big like the space marine scout versions you see a lot of.
this will be part of a squad of rough riders or used in ash waste games.
i was originally going to go with no stowage to show off the bikes awesomeness but i shaved off a few rivets by accident, figured it was easier to just cover it up than try to get new rivets to line up. just need to find some more bits for the rear end, suggestions? (not rude ones? )

got some time in on my newest guard regiment (from now on planet Bethesda)/necromunda gang, the serg/leader is complete, wasted too much time waiting for paints for the kurgans that didnt arrive and then deciding on a new scheme for bethesda peeps, next month should be more productive?
