Excellent Work, really good painting.

If you add some Decals, you can varnish over them with normal polyurethane Varnish (wood varnish).

It would look like this...

Then spray 2-3 extreme light sprays DULLCOTE the Anti-Shine Varnish

and it will look like this...

The decals look ultra flat, like they were painted on!! No silvering and no problems.

When I was shown this technique I was blown away.. I use it on all my forces now.

@mwnciboo

Thanks for the comment really appreciate it! I must say I really enjoy your work as well.

Now that you bring up varnishing, I was actually wondering abou it. At the store they sell vallejo's matte varnish I was wondering if I should buy that and just give a nice thin coat of it on all my models? What is the purpose of a varnish, just to protect from scratches and such?

And I do want to add decals to my tanks eventually once I figure out what force I want to represent, I decided I'm going to use Yhe abridge by bridge book, so once I get that I'll figure out my unit and such. But thanks for the tip, it looks great! Do you think I could skip a step by using a matte varnish instead of the shiny one then having to spray matte on?

Finnished both of my PaK40s besides the bases but personally I think they look really cool and hope you guys enjoy. My friend and I also got a game in yesterday I am hoping to do a battle report of it so stay tuned.

Anyway I got a Zvezda Stuka I ordered the other day in the mail today! Hurray! I wasn't expecting it so soon! It was only 5$ so I bought it even though I don't know the aircraft rules very well it's a steal and very cool model. It was easy to put together and looks great I would highly recommend to someone. Any ideas for colors??

Stay tuned everyone I finished the bases on the PAK40s tonight glue is drying now, will take pics tomorrow!

I also ordered the Bridge by Bridge book so I can get to work on a list, so I'll keep you guys updated on how that goes!

Finished the PaK40 command team, so another platoon done! Hope you guys are enjoying my work!

Next up will be my Company commander, 2ic, and panzershreck team. I have a rules question for them, do I deploy these three together? Or separate? Do they have to be deployed with another platoon? Or are all three one platoon? My friend who plays the guards amor from open fire has same question his command and 2ic do they deploy together? Alone? Or with another platoon? Sorry for all the questions just trying to get some clarification!

Also any ideas on painting that Stuka? What Vallejo colors?

Thanks,
IHlBT

On Nimbosa, cramming as many guardsmen into troop carriers as possible.

Gorgeous work! I got inspired by your work and decided to pick up my own open fire box, I already have the rulebook so I'll give that to a friend. Can't wait to see more!

Still haven't played a game so I can't answer your questions.

I'm fairly new to FOW, but I think I can answer your question. If I get it wrong, I'm sure one of the more experienced players will correct me.
Most armies, you have the choice of deploying the CC/2ic on its own or with a combat platoon. Germans have more options because of the Kampfgruppe rule. The 2ic can take up to 1/2 of any combat or weapon platoons and form a new platoon from them.

@rotgut

Thanks for the reply, and haha for a moment I kinda see what you are talking about!

@pyschadelicmime

Thank you so much for your comment and I am really glad that my posts have inspired you to pick up open fire! I'm sure you'll like and please share your progress! Stay tuned!

@Anpu-adom

Thanks for the comment very helpful! It's just a bit confusing still so say in a British armored company, If bought a company command of 2 Sherman V would those two have to stay together as a platoon or could the split? Or go independent? Thank you for any help!

Update

Played my first game using uh enter open fire lists using the generic lists that come with the rule book, German grenadiers and British armor. My army is the German and I put a good amount of thought into it. The British one I made for a friend because he didnt quite understand the list building yet and we both think it is wry underpowered compared to the German list, what do you guys think?

1 AA MG .50 cal

American Parachute rifle platoon-

British Rifle platoon
2 Rifle Squads-

Thoughts from our games:

The Stuka just absolutely destroyed, I rolled well a lot and had it most turns but without AA I just was killing tanks left and right! Are aircraft usually this over powered? Or did mine do so well only because he had nothing to stop it? I

Tiger is very very good still, I read some places people didnt like it, but if sat back far enough it's hard for the fireflies to hit and it can do sme serious damage and is very well protected.

Why did the German list absolutely destroy the British list? At first I thought it was his tactics that cost him after I legitimately destroyed dais army by turn 4, then I tried to use it vs the German list and did better but still felt like an uphill battle from the start and ended up losing badly. What's up with it?

Questions:
Can a tank fire it's main gun at a tank and its mg at a different team in the same shooting step?
What happens to bogged/bailed tanks if assaulted or like during an assault a tank gets bailed out does it auto die next round of fighting? And if they fall back to bogged/bailed tanks auto die?
What is a good way or place to go to get cheap terrain?! Suggestions please I'm so done with the card board cut outs!

Thanks for any help and comments! Sorry for all the questions! Bridge by Bridge book should come today!

I was still a lot of fun and we had a great night playing flames! Here's some pics!

First off make sure you are playing the scenario right, as in pincer its played longways and one of the objectives is usually very close to the attack which makes it hard to defend esp with only half your army on the board. Plus your supposed to have two objectives on the board, which spreads the defenders out more.

Secondly keep in mind you cant use airsupport within 16inches of a friendly team or it gets waved off.

These forces should be about evenly match- add some terrain and play on a full 4ft by 6ft table allows armor more manuever space.

Also it looks like the tank player tried to drive over a brick wall, extremely bad choice of tactics with tanks, his best bet would be to flank the wall and come in from the open side so he doesnt have to make skill checks for the difficult going, or even just sit around shooting at your infantry with Main guns and machineguns until he killed some off before assaulting.

As an aside get some recon for the tank army, no tank player thats been playing for abit will attack without a recon platoon. You will quickly find as a tank player no recon = death to ambushes or death to time out because you cant shift veteran gone to ground infantry.

*update*

Okay got some games in and painting! Finished two StuG G from open fire and my commanding officers and panzershreck team.

I also bought Vallejo matte varnish I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to use it? Do I just apply a thin coat over the entire model once I'm done painting? And with it ill be able to start putting decals on!

Had a game with my friend with the same lists and he ended up winning we played pincer and we played on proper table 4x6 and it made alot of difference he was able to break through and take an objective although had I not been overly confident with my armor it would have turned out differently oh well. It was alot of fun for sure!

I'm trying to determine what to add next to my list either mortars, heavy artillery, or regular artillery. Ill he using the grenadier company from bridge by bridge book. Speaking of that it finally came in the mail and I really like the book it has soo many unique lists and options I'm excited to start working on lists from it! I highly recommend it to someone.

Thanks for looking and please leave a comment I hope you enjoy my painting!

@Chaos45

Thank you for your thorough reply and my friend took alot of your advice and we enlarged the table. Thank you!

When you assault a bailed/bogged tank you dont need to test morale and its auto captured/destroyed if they have no defending troops/active tanks in the assault.

Thanks for the help!

Update!

I recently did some destroyed vehicle markers following a tutorial video on YouTube and I think they turned out really cool! What do you guys think? I also finished up the V-1 flying bomb terrain piece.

I have a question regarding ordering directly from the flames of war website. I ordered a mortar platoon from them a week ago but have recieved no email confirmation or information regarding status. My card has not been charged for it and I haven't heard back from customer support so I really don't know what's going on. Does anyone have any experience with this kinda of thing? I'm wishing I had just ordered off amazon or eBay..

Very nice looking, fits very well on the bases

Nice to see an army grow from the first efforts (which in your case are amazing, in my case are hidden far from sight below a further coat of paint), specially seeing it actually used as well.

Wish I had more time to actually game round here, find I get more games at tournaments these days or special events - if you get the chance to run as part of a team in a much larger game go for it

You seem to have captured the feel of the models very nicely here

Absolutely cracking minis in this thread, can't believe I didn't see it before now!

Really nice camo job on the tanks, and as for not enjoying painting the infantry, welcome to the world of 15mm!

It's good that you have the self-discipline to paint some of them now, and not just all of the tanks first leaving the difficult bits for last (which is what I always do!)
