Lasiq is one of my favourite miniatures in the Haqqislam range. Actually, scratch that - the whole Infinity range. She is a beaut, looking forward to seeing what kind of job you make with her!

I would just chuck a bit of greenstuff on the base, that should suffice.

Yeah, Greenstuff works fine. What I do is once they're glued to the base, but before I sand the base, I'll superglue a little strip of paper over the holes in the base. Usually the 'Complaint Number' papers that come with the models. It dries quick and then once it is sanded over you can't tell at all.

I need to pick up that Fiday! I don't know why I don't have her already, really looking forward to what you get painted up.

What's dis :>
What's dat <:

Spoiler:

It's a WIP Fiday!

I've taken these WIP pics with the most horrible cam in the house :p for some reason I could take the picture from the more advanced WIP this evening with flash, don't really know how :p
So if it's not obvious, I've painted her as Yoko from Gurren Lagann. Flames on her top and yellow hazard stripes on the boarding shotgun incoming
I do think she looks a bit as a harlequin with the yellow, blue and red, so I might try to make the ochre/yellow more pale, and the blue highlights a bit lighter, so that it doesn't become a rainbow.
So that's flames/hazard stripes, visor and reworking of the blue highlights to be done for sure, I'll update when I've done those ;D

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Btw the greenstuff to fit the slotta base worked out perfect, thx. And I really liked working on the base of both the Fiday and Lasiq Experimenting with earthy colours was fun to do.

An excellent job so far. I think the colors so far are working great, and I look forward to the shotgun to see how it all fits together. I actually just put this model together last night, so I'm looking forward to taking a stab at painting her up too. Looking forward to seeing her complete!

Thx, yes together with the Tuareg sniper model they are my favorite, though this mini itself is better than the tuareg ^^

So here's an additional picture, where I changed the highlights on the black a bit, I highlighted the white parts and did some flames on her chest. Still gotta do the visor and highlight the blues on her glove/kneecaps:

and some more things I've done:
Spoiler:

Changed the helmet on the Halqa/Ghulam proxy, I'm okay with this. Chemical Cutthroat you'll think it's far from tactical I think xD but it's less aggressive than completely red
And I added some glossy varnish, going to add matte later, when I added glossy varnish to the yujing and fiday (was actually experimenting with varnish on the tuareg first)
Also, I tried painting gems, you can barely see it on this pic, forgot to make a close-up =) So figuring out how to do the visor on the fiday shouldn't be too hard ^^

So here's the tuareg, I've added a coat of floss garnish and matte varnish, but left the gun. I'm still going to add matte varnish to the gun, it's a little too shiny for my taste ^^
(+ anyone know if you can still paint on top of varnish? I think you can because it's just medium I think? like paint with a transparent color?)

And then just an addidional pic of the fiday, with the boarding shotgun, still gotta fix those hazard stripes and fix some highlights than went wrong ^^

Bah, what I think doesn't matter! As long as you like it. But I have seen that somewhere before... I wonder...

Spoiler:

I think the YokoFiday is looking great. You did good work on the flames on the top and the boots.

I think the others are a bit shiny, I agree on matting them up again. At least its lots of layers of protection.

I'm liking how the Yoko/Fiday is coming along. Very interesting look you're going for. Though, the faux flesh comes across as looking a tad odd. Still, great job.

And did you sculpt that Ghulam's helmet on, or was it done through a headswap?

@Chemical Cutthroat, Yes they are too shiny at this moment Someone at the gaming club told me to apply a glossy varnish first, then a matte for double protection without the shiny. I tested that on the tuareg first, and since it came out alright, I started with the ghulam ^^

@Barzam, I'm still thinking I should make the ochre a lot more pale, to match the suit of my ghulam doc, and some details of the ghulam, at this point it's still a lot of yellow :/ Maybe I'll try and photoshop it to see what it could look like ^^

I sculpted the helmet on the ghulam I didn't like the bandage sculpt + I also like to try new things out.
At this point I'm still new to most things. Really, apart from learning the basic painting on some 40k test models and a couple of daemonettes I tried converting, everything I post in this blog is done for the first time so far (so the little sculpting, gem effect, basing,... btw those yujing are my first completely painted models ^^ )

Soo, with some delay, here's the final product: ^^
I prefer how I did the gun this way. With some shades of colour into the greys of the gun, and with much lighter highlights. I've got to work extra careful this way, because it shows much harder if your strokes arent that clean ^^ I think I did the visor okay, but I could go darker at the bottom imho, Took this picture with my dads camera in better lighting, the colour of the suit is actually okay on this one. It's still a bit more ochre than the suits of my ghulam, but I think it should be clear the colours are meant to fit in. Only need to varnish the mini, but that's for later

Because I started working on this cherry blossom girl ^^ it's the model from the starter box, and I didn't paint her because I was scared to mess it up. Since I've done a couple of models now, I think I can manage this. I just imagine the bright tones will show mistakes a lot easier :/

I think Yoko turned out excellent. The highlighting on the gun is well done and bright, and the blues are blended in well.

The pink Domaru is going to be great when it's all said and done, I really really like what you have so far, as it is already shaping up very nicely. Can't wait to see more.

Soo,
Couldn't hold myself starting the Lasiq Obviously the coat would be brown, I went for a browncoat theme like malcolm reynolds, but the there's so much blue that it actually doesn't remember of him :/ It does fit in with my ghulam and yoko. When this girl is done I'll make a group shot

-looks like this first picture is focussed on the rock on the base, sorry :p just noticed it now-
I really like the coat, the detail makes it a bit more easy to highlight and give depth. However, the blue parts I find hard to paint :s At the moment i've got these hard dark lines separating the sections, but it needs to be less aggressive, so probably an extra colour. I also don't really know how to highlight some parts of the blue cape, would it be best layering it, or wet blending it? I've never done any of those techniques, but I do want to try them ^^ I also don't know yet how I'm going to give depth to the boots

Here's some additional pics:
Spoiler:

Then there's the domaru :s
I started the lasiq also because I didn't know what to do with this armor. I wanted a cherry blossom theme, and a sort of gradient from the nice pink/purple color, to a white, a bit of an aleph scheme, but obviously linked to the sakura blossom.
Atm she's pretty pink, and I don't know if I should layer the armor parts or try to wet blend, or simple edge highlight with a very light pink or so. I've already done armor parts once on the shang ji, but I didn't really need any transitions, and it had enough crevices and edges to highlight and wash to look convincing, but this I really could use some help with ^^

The lines and curves of the Domaru are so smooth that wet blending would be the better call. Edge highlighting seems to be better for sharper edges, and she is hella curvy. It might be good practice!

I find the opposite with the Lasiq. She has those nice edged blcoks on her coat that work well with a bit of edgework. I really like the yellow/tan/sandy color for her bodysuit, its a nice tone with the blues.

Looking sharp man!

Ooh, cherry blossom pink. Neat idea. Go with blending. Look at how Angel Giraldez painted the studio versio though, for inspiration. ( or depression, when the realization sets in how much higher his skill level is than everybody else's :( )

I like the Lasiq. Good start on it. Then again It is one of my favorite minis in the Haqq range.

Got a little work done on the highlighting. I went for layering with very diluted paint, pulling the pigment towards the highlighted spots. I've only done the pink for now, but still need a lot more layers (done about three now), reworking ont he belt, adding some layers on the arm (I've had the wrong position of the arm in mind, and put the highlights on the wrong spot :p)
I hope you can see it, because the lighting gives a natural highlight, and I've tried this week to take pictures, but the lighting was always too bad, reminding me to look up how to make a simple light box of any kind
Wet blending scared me a bit on those tiny surfaces, maybe I'll try that on the lower part of the Lasiqs coat (since it's a nice big area, compared to the tiny limbs of the domaru :p).

That is looking excellent man. Great work. Going to leave the cables that richer dark color while bringing the rest up to a much brighter tone? Could be cool!

Ahh thx ^^ Haven't really searched for tutorials, but this is makes it easy (a)
I'm also quite busy with school atm, so I'm probably not making progress until next week or so.

I am planing on highlighting the cables, but I'm not changing the color if that's what you mean? I notice the wash has pooled quite a bit, but matte varnish will help a lot I suspect?

Yeah, that's what I mean. It's a good, rich color, and I think it offers a nice matching contrast to the brighter, whiter pink of the armor.

Heya, found some time today to finish the armor of the Domaru. Maybe I can fix some parts of the grey, but I'm actually happy with it. I think my attempt to highlight the armor will take some attention away from other mistakes ^^
Still gotta find another colour for the katanas. I tought maybe a bright orange or deep yellow would fit? Painting the rifle and basing it will finish the job ^^ I'm thinking adding some Japanese natural stones to the base. I initially wanted to base it representing a cherry blossom stone, but since I glued the model to the base already, I don't think that will be possible :c
Look up the cherry blossom stones, they're actually quite nice, and I didn't know they existed untill I started looking for some sakura inspiration ^^

And some additional pics:
Spoiler:

And also a pic of some papercraft I'm making for Infinity (I really don't know If I'm going to make enough scenery to play at home, or just bring it to the club to play. I'm just a year into this hobby and I've got too much random piles of papercraft, little shapes of whatever I could find that would be useful, minis I'm not finishing shortly... :p So maybe I should wait before trying to fill a board (a)
Spoiler:

I had to take of the front of the chickenhawk because while we were moving houses a while back, it must have been damaged :/ I'm thinking the cicada is storing up it's wings like that when it's parked, and if I should start a board or whatever, I'm thinking of making a workshop where it's being repaired or something :p

Then there's these random things I wanted to show you, I don't think I'm going to make a blog about it.:
I started choosing out some goblins I have had for some time to repaint (it was a deal from someone who gave his lotr armies to the club, and the club sold them to new players to fund shelving materials for scenery ). I've got to paint 3 more goblins w shield and 11 with spear T.T, and then paint all the bases. That will sum up to around 200pts of goblins and I don't know what to add next: wild wargs, wargriders, a troll or blackshields :p If any of you has experience or knowledge of lotr, please convince me what would be best? I'd want wargriders, but I'll have to convert them, because I don't want to throw any more money on minis atm xD (I've got enough orcs to convert, got them from a friend)
Spoiler:

And also this pile of 25mm squares I'm making, not telling you yet what for though

Daaaaamn. That pink is perfect Soul. Way better than anything I've managed so far. The blending is excellent, and the colors work so damn well.

If you're looking for a complimenting color to the Katanas, blues would work well.

@Chemical Cutthroat Thx I've put a lot of patience in it. You can clearly see I skipped the grey a big part compared to the pink, but the idea was that the armor had a sort of colour gradient, and therefor the grey doesn't really need it I think? Besides, I'm just learning these techniques I come across, so I'm more than happy with it
And lol, no I don't think such an artistic piece would make it nsfw ^^
What do you think most people do when painting? Assemble fully and paint, paint each separatly, or depending on what difficult spots you might come across?
@Barzam Thx I'm actually busy right now basing every model that needs to be based (gotta fix all those slotta gaps T.T) and since I've waited with that on pretty much each model I've done so far, I'm looking at 19 models already :/ But I'm not putting a lot of work in it yet. After that I'll take some group pictures
And heh, I actually tried the chickenhawk on cheap paper in black/white before I printed it in better quality, and I've done some dave graffam containers, so It's going a lot easier already :p When I've mastered paper, maybe I can move on to plasticard!

Yeah, its a horde of laughing orks.

I'm one of the guys that will fully assemble and base my models, THEN prime them and get started on painting. I've always done that, and though it makes painting some people difficult, it is better than the alternative for me.

I had tried to do it the other way with a High Elf I was working on, had his shield and greatsword separate while working on the main part of his armor.

I still have the Elf... I don't have any of his gear now. Lord knows where it is.

So now I just slam it all together and hope for the best when painting later.

So, I've been busy studying lately (a) my final exam is in two days. I still found the time to work on some things in between though :p

My Infinity models are all based now, some are painted (but need a last layer of drybrushing) but most of the yujing are still waiting to get a coat ^^

And thanks to Chemical Cutthroat and KingCracker I decided to try the Endless Fantasy Tactics game. I was looking for a small scaled game to maybe actually start playing stuff ^^
I wanted a game that was relatively cheap aswell, but I kinda misjudged the situation :p The prices are really good I think, but the shipping cost and the extra taxes -I didn't know about them T.T- were almost as much as the stuff I ordered, so the price unexpectedly doubled :c And that right in between the ending of the kickstarter and the start of the summer sales at OTLG :p I really picked the wrong time to start this game :p

As I was waiting for the order, and in between studying I was looking for extra miniatures to complete the starter parties I wanted to try. I found an old dark age miniature in a box with random miniatures at the local shop, and I converted it a bit to resemble the dark priest. I also got a general of the empire model, but I regret I bought it. I think it doesn't really fit the style I'm going with, and the heroic scale is also a bit odd. I'm still going to paint up the mounted model for some painting fun, hopefully trying out new techniques to learn (: I tried wetblending the cape of the Knight btw, so that's another technique I've tried, and intend to use again on the priest robes.
So here's my current work, and a scale shot of some other minis i got and will be using to proxy some stuff.

The knight is still missing the mouthpiece and a shield. I'm hoping the mouthpiece will partly cover up his face that is mainly the thing making him look weird next to the others.

Extra shot of his cape:
Spoiler:

Where I'm at with the dark priest:

And a scale shot of the EFT minis I have received next to some other minis I have:

From left to right: EFT, EFT, Anima Tactics, Iron Kingdoms, Iron Kingdoms, EFT
I'm going to try and hide the scale differences by adding some higher bases to the PP models, maybe removing/remodelling some lower parts of the summoner/priest models I don't know yet ^^ The scale differences also don't really bother me that much. the Dark Knight is pretty cool as a giant, so I'm defo leaving him like that :p (not that there's anything to alter to that model anyway ^^)
I can proxy the anima tactics model as a pugilist hopefully, I don't know if I should try and remove the shield, and the iron kingdom models will serve as a knight and bandit/gunsmith. The knight will hopefully replace the GW knight

Finally, did my last exam today ^^ but I just have a couple of days before I'm starting my student job :p At least I don't have to study, so maybe I have more time in the evenings next month ^^
So here's the scale comp with a CSM and ghulam. This was the only model that could stand tall, the others fell and I was too lazy to get a piece of tape to make the others stand aswell.
I think the priest will be looking neat next to the EFT models.

The ghulam is based as I said before, just needs one or two finishing drybrush layers (:

Aha! Seems I've infected Mach with the EFT stuff. Excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing what you paint up!

I was going to pick up the Dark Knight, but they were sold out when I was ordering. Little did I know that they were made In House so that didn't matter. He's next on my list, he's a brute and looks like a lot of fun to paint.

I actually just got my next three models in! I'll have pictures up tomorrow likely. I'm going to get them cleaned up and assembled, but painting priority goes to my Heavy Gear stuff right now.

Did you see the Infinity release lineup for July? Ghulam Special Weapons boxed set! I dunno if this means Ghulam resculpts or not, but it'll still be cool to be able to snag a box with all the options.

Anyway! Looking forward to what you come up with. The Dark Priest conversion looks spot on, he'll fit right in.
