Here are some more.

This one is my baby. I wanted to give my SkyNetMountain (I need a better name) a nice ED-209-looking mofo to let everyone know gak just got serious. He still needs some tewaks and some gaps hidden, but he's 95% there. What do you think?

This next one is a scout walker for my Shock Troops. For the first Robogear walker I converted, I swapped out the whole upper body and arms, along with the head. Too much work! From now on, they just get head swaps.

First, my lazy Commisar conversion--a Dreamforge head on a Bones body. Then I modified some WGF ladies because who really needs three of the same pose per box. Yes the little girl has a scouter and a blaster, the older lady has a ray-gun, and the cowgirl has claws, bub.

They look good, but I like the Gun Tractors a whole lot more. I want the Gun Tractors just as they are. If I do end up doing a Johnny 5, I'll probably end up using a spare one of those, a spare PDC track (are they still around?) or a tiny little tank chassis.

Cool little ships. I've already said how much I like the deadzone stuff but the ships for your drone army are pretty neat too.

I like the MALP, he's got an extra big claw but I think it's a close enough representation that I would have guessed that was his purpose if you hadn't said what it was.

The gun on the first dude does look pretty big for a swivel, but his missiles look pretty big too so maybe they're just over-gunning them.

Neat blog.

Oh even more too!

The first walker is pretty awesome, it looks a bit awkward but in a lean deadly way, kind of like ED209 did (though that was probably just bad CGI at the time).

The second one doesn't look as cool as the first but how could it right? Still looks a lot more reasonable than sending dudes rolling around on giant armored bikes, and pretty cool besides.

Heh, clawgirl is pretty amusing for some reason, the rest make more sense honestly but she's so out there it works

Now how's about you throw a coat of paint on those? I'd like to see what the girls look like painted.

Very cool Bob! I love drones and have a bunch of Tau drones sitting around to make a giant drone army out of. I think drones will play an increasingly important role in future battlefields, and I love the visual of seeing some enormous swarm of drones lift up over the horizon. I think I saw an anime once with some big drone swarm. The matrix also has a cool one.

You made that robogear stuff look good, but my favorite is by far the ships from the Deadzone "Not Enough Clips" set.

Thanks! It sounds like I should try harder to finish my Mantic fleet. Then on to Battlefleet Imex.

The swivel gun is much bigger than I thought it would be when I started on it. That's one reason I added more length to the drone's front. But, sure, with all the weight saved on life support and cockpit space, bigger guns make sense.
The robot walker was very much intended to look like ED 209, which is why I didn't add sensors or cameras to his face. I think he ended up looking a bit like a Zentraedi command walker, too. I'm not sure the cage on his face works, but I imagine it's a frame for armored transparisteel or something. Or force fields. Gotta love force fields.

The second one is not modified too much. I have a more heavily-modified one that I've been tinkering with for years now, but I'm not happy with it. As for clawgirl, I wanted to make some super-heroines with my spares. The other woman is supposed to be rogue in a classic Marvel "I'mma punch you" pose. She has to wear gloves because her touch is deadly, but she has to wear a strapless top and miniskirt because she's a comic book character. I had a couple of Wonder Women minis, but I can't seem to find them.

I don't know... I have mini ADD, where I never quite finish a project before moving on. I have to work while I'm inspired.

I'm much more of a modeller than a painter. I used to paint while my wife and nephew were painting, but she doesn't have time any more and he went away to college. And if I do paint some minis, I'll probably start with the space ships and drones. They don't require me to blend skin tones.

On the other hand, "It puts the primer on its skin or else it gets the hose again," certainly has a nice ring to it.

I plan to make a lot of smaller drones, too. I might go for more of a ducted-fan look for them rather than the Tau anti-gravity look. Also, replicators spider-bots. The trick is making them look small enough to work as troops. The Matrix was a big inspiration for my "face full of lenses" approach for the flying drones.

And, yeah, I'll get to work on the Mantic ships. I just need to figure out how to finish the nacelles.

Stuff looks good - are the drones to be used in 28mm scale? The mech I assume is, though you could also use either of them in 15mm etc or smaller (as bigger mechs and drones). I don't know what a MALP is (googled it - ah, some kind of Stargate thingy) I prefer the scutters.
I kinda like the body shape of the first walker but prefer the weapon mounts of the second. Maybe we need more angles?

I know it's not so much your thing and that time and setup are difficult for you atm, but paint, man, paint.

Even figuring out a colour scheme and using a spray can + washes will get them 80% done, and as we know, once something is 80% done you can take as long as you like for that last, magical 20%.

Yeah, they are 'scaled' for '28mm'. Honestly, once I get them near some Mecha Front or CAV, scale will go out the window, as well as rules or anything other than making stompy robo-noises and explosions. I can get pictures from more angles. It looks like you also wanted to see closer pictures of some of the painted minis, so I'll try to get those up as well.

Painting? Noooo! Although I might take your 80% approach to heart. Spray can and washes? That is soooo my style.

Thanks. But I'm not sure if you're just fething with me. Kickstarter is a serious endeavor, requiring the utmost integrity and commitment. But, if you think people would pay for a pdf, and even more for a printed book plus very reasonable shipping...

You think I could get Flying Assault Butt money? Because I could really use that money.

But seriously, would anyone actually pledge for a bunch of my sketches, drawings and, stretch goals permitting, paintings?

I think people actually would. Just make sure your sense of humour is at the forefront.

KS's new policy appears to be "feth it - you're on your own!" and they no longer appear to have any kind of vetting or approval of projects at all.

Also, I see that Flying Assault Butts has now become a typical Kickstarter with no updates since April 2014 and people still waiting on theirs 13 months on.

If you start to take money for reals for this, make sure that you mention upfront that your project will likely be delayed by months, and Chinese New Year will probably have an impact, along with Christmas, New Years, Eid, Hannukah, and any other public holiday anywhere in the world.

Huh. Well, then, I'll just need to start looking into how much adobe charges for the software that makes pdf artbooks, and find a printer that's a bit cheaper than shutterfly. Also, need to start drawing. I don't think people will pledge so much based on concept art alone anymore.

Lol Cybermatrix, I only got about 10 words into the video before I had to quit...

I could see backing you for the PDF if prices were reasonably reasonable, the lol factor is relatively high with your work which is nice

^I have no idea. I'm a cheapskate and don't like paying for things so other people would be much better at helping you set your prices I tend to have a blind spot for kickstarters but I'm too much of a stingy shopper to be of much help!

I will say that it seems like having a lower buy-in seems to help with the random passersby jumping onto a project, even if it's not the whole shebang, sometimes people just wanna contribute to the laugh and maybe get something out of it. Look at that potato salad thing, for instance.

Yeah for reals.

Kind of depends on what you'd want out of it too. Kickstarter usually isn't run to make you oodles of cash but to establish the mechanism to do so. At least for minis... I'm not as sure how it works for making print runs of stuff.

Those prices seem affordable enough if the interest is there.

If it's a digital PDF, I'd be thinking $10-15, with higher levels being "request your own design" and "become a character" type silliness.

I know in MS Word you can simply "save as PDF", so you might want to look into that as well before paying Adobe the big bucks.

Hello, everyone. Haven't been doing much modelling recently due to a death in the family. I'm still pretty psyched about doing a kickstarter, but I haven't had time to do any of the research yet. I did end up doing a few more drawings while suffering from insomnia or doing laundry. But first--

Pretty much everyone says this. I agree. The ships in my photos were not complete. I have used and will continue to use a mix of Imex and WGF bits to add finer detail to the command saucer, nacelles and other parts until the ships are done abandoned. I just haven't had a chance to work on them much because the Mantic ships live at my parents' house right now and I've been a bit preoccupied elsewhere.

Glad you liked it, though!

Now, for the other pictures. Keep in mind that these are meant to be ideas for conversions based on cheap toys my son probably won't realize are missing.

And here is a sneak peak at some early designs for KS stretch goals. I'm saving the annotations until the project goes live.

I want to put together a bunch of my monster doodles as a stretch goal or add-on. What do you think?

This one was a request from my wife. I felt kind of uncomfortable drawing it at a playground, so it is a little rushed. However, if there's one thing I've learned from Kingdom Death, it's that Kickstarter and breasts go together like... well, anything and breasts, really. NSFW!
Spoiler:

This one will never be finished now that someone asked my why the dragon is pooping.

And I can work in color, for those big, fake stretch goals that really get your attention.
