Is Sgt Zim who I think he is?

I'm not sure... Who do you think he is supposed to be?

Is Zim the name of a black library character?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh wait do you mean the character from the cartoon Invader Zim?

Because that's not where I got the name from. But now I think about it, it makes the model a lot more amusing for some reason.

So it's been a while. Haven't been much in the mood for painting and painting related activities as of late though.

But I did manage to pull my thumb outta my arse for a few hours and finished off Tactical squad Raphael and made a proper start on Terminator squad Barachiel.

So here is Sgt. Raphael fully complete, eyes and all. (I hate eyes.) It's a huge photo I know, but it's no good keep a face shot small.

Various brothers from the squad. These large photos not only show how crap my painting looks up super close, but also shows how damn dusty my room is. Look at that glorious coating of dust. (I forgot to brush it off before taking the shots... )

Since I don't like the bleached bone look of the studio Deathwing I thought I'd try something a little different and more labour intensive for mine.
I like the look of it but I feel it's lacking something although I'm not sure what. So I would appreciate any comments or suggestions people might have about them.
Spoliered because they are kind of on the largish side and I forgot to resize them...
Spoiler:

Once again, thanks for looking.

Ok so I did some work on Yellow platoon command today.

I give you the almost complete
Lt. Les "No Neck" Fossman, Commander of Yellow platoon. So called because it appears he actually has no neck. He's just a head stuck on a torso.

And

Berret, Yellow platoon standard bearer.

Both men only have one eye. Berret's head only has one eye. Fossman's other eye... well I couldn't actually find it. It was too small for me to realistically paint. So I just added a lot of flesh wash to the socket and called it a day.

Another angle. I'm quite proud of my freehand 'A'. I'm getting quite good at them.

Both men need one more coat of of flesh and then it's time to muddy them up. Make it look like they've been wallowing in filthy water for a few days.
I'm not real happy with the banner either now that I look at it. Might go over the white swirlies again and neaten up the red.

Looking good on the IG. For the Deathwing, perhaps a line wash or something like that to give more definition to the armour plates? It already works well on the feet, but might be a bit stronger on the face, power fist, etc.

Thanks Az.

I agree that the helmets do look a little flat. I'll hit them with a sepia wash and see how that looks. Might try and do something with the wings on the sergeants back as well. Not sure what to do with them though.

The most obvious choices would be to go green or go red. One is obviously a lot brighter than the other.

I ended up going with the green feathers for the wings. Good choice there Az.

Small update.

Based some of my AFTERLIFE models today using this tutorial.

They're a bit rough looking at the moment but hopefully once all painted up they'll compliment the models quite nicely.
If these turn out like I hope then I'll be basing the Grenadiers the same way too. Make it look like they're fighting it out over a city plaza or something.

PROGRESS!!

No not really. I jumped projects again. So.... SOMETHING NEW!

I really am bad at keeping gak like this updated. And it's not because I lack for time either. I... I just suck.

Anyway, decided to repaint my Yarrick. Wasn't happy with the job I did on him when I first got him.

This is a WiP. I've thrown down the base coats. His stormcoat is a glossy black (not that you can tell), anything that's going to be be yellow or gold got a coat of scorched brown, there's also various silvers, gore red, etc. You get the idea.

Did a bit of work on the plasma gunner for Yellow Command.

Couldn't find a bare right arm that had a good position. So in the end I lopped of the arm of one of the DV cultists, removed the blade and attached it to the remains of a hacked up Cadian arm. So now he's got a plasma gun, a cigar and an improvised spiked knuckle duster. He's ready for war.

Thanks for looking. More to come.

EDIT: OK, what hell? I neglect this blog for months on end and then all of a sudden it's on Dakka's front page?? What the gak? How does that happen?
I'm calling shenanigans.

PROGRESS!

Really this time.

Did a bit more on Yarrick.

Next stage is just some general clean up. I also plan on hazard striping the power klaw. Highlights and details are last on the list.

Thanks for looking.

Ok. So I think I've finished him.

A half decent shot of his face. Pretty happy with the eyes and the teeth.

And some damage on his Klaw.

Thoughts? Criticisms? Anything you think could be improved?

Yarrick is looking good, but ...does he have a pupil in his right eye? He looks like the Orks have punched a few of his teeth out as well - I'd never realised before today, but it fits with all of the other beatings and bionics that he has!

No, no pupil. I wasn't game enough to try and dot one in. I've done it before on other models but I just wasn't feeling confident with this one.

And yeah, he's only got 3 teeth in his head. Had a few too many knock down, drag outs in his time.
