Regarding the wash, the paint flows freely when applied but still grains up a bit when drying. This is no problem after blending though....

WORKSHOP UPDATE:
There are really two updates to the workshop. First is that my compressor died so I decided to spend a little more and get myself something a bit more professional. It's a Sparmax TC-620X, a double piston dual outlet compressor. Sofar I love it, runs quiet and it refills the tank silly quick. Also, imho, it's pretty dang good looking too

The second thing is I redid some electricstuff at the same time I got the compressor so now there are no temporary cords all over the place. And I have alot of outlets available under the bench for easy connection of any powertool.

When it comes to painting I haven't really had the time, and when I have a hard time to get in the mood for painting it's not worth to force it. But hopefully today is a day to get some done.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I couldn't resist the temptation of taking my old compressor apart to see if I could fix it.

The problem has been identified but I am unsure of the best way to solve it.

This axel is supposed to be attached to...

...this piston.

Now it seems as it was only held in place with loctite or something similar since there is some old guck in the threads. I guess I could clean it up and get some serious strength loctite and reattach it. Have tried just screwing it back on and it unscrewed itself in about 5 seconds.

Any suggestions?

So, now I have talked to alot of people who know stuff... I have bought some brakecleaner and some permatex... first to clean and the second is a threadlock to "glue" the parts together and the old compressor should work again. So I guess I will sell it to someone I want to trick into airbrushing

Long time no post... but no matter... lets get back to it.

First, the compressor is up and running again but since I bought a better one I have sold the old one. Good to get things you are not going to use out of the house.

Second, I finally sat down with a paintbrush again. I did some edge highlighting on the armour so that is pretty much done now. Then I when on to block in some colors. The problem is that I haven't really decided on all the color choices yet so I try my way slowly.

The lighting is aweful so the shading on the armour doesn't really come through but mostly I am happy with my first proper attempt at oilwashing on a light surface.

OKEJ... so... I just f-cked up royaly...

One of my paints had separated badly and it didn't blend even with an agitator... I thought I'd fasion myself a stirrer so I bend some wire. Inserted it into the dremel... and that was a BIG misstake!

At first it worked ok but all of a sudden the paintlevels rise in the bottle and instead of shutting it of I halfpaniced and raised the speed... BOOM the paint got over the rim and exploded all over the workbench. My shirt is destroyed, my bench is spotted. Every single cap on my paintpots are spotted... I am soooo lucky I had just packed my current project for a visit to the gaming club for a painting event. The project is easily 25hours in and still only half done. Phew... this will take me forever to clean. :(

The paint is somewhat restored though... So I will try again, but with better wire, NOT the dremmel due to high rpm's and with some sort of splatter protections in place.

Okej, so forgetting this days epic failure, I also did some good today...

Got some work done on the DeathWing... I like them sofar... still have a lot of decicions to make about colors but I think it will work out well

The funny thing is that is was opened due to security reasons since it looked like some terrorist thingie on the x-ray. Never happend before, but I got a nice letter about it

So, finally got around to painting a little on these guys again. Since there is mostly details left I can take it in small increments.

I had some problems with the reds, I think the paint has separated somewhat, will have to look into this. Perhaps I should have underpainted in any case since it is red.

Thanks, updates on the Rhino will come... real world have had me doing silly gak the last six months and I have gotten really tired of it so yesterday I decided to make hobbystuff a priority since I need to do stuff that make me happy.

Since I am getting closer actually finishing some of the terminators I thought I would get the bases ready. I bought some awesome bases from Secret Weapon that I really like but I thought I would make them a little more 40k:ish

I grinded a hole in the base with a dremel and them place one of the skulls from my sack-of-skulls. I will use some greystuff to properly embed them. I do about a third of the bases so it's not everyone... on the smaller bases (these are 40mm) I will do even fewer since there is less space for variation.

I think it will be pretty nice.

Nice termis. I particularly like the green robe/sash thing. Very vibrant.

Thank you very much, it was my first attempt ever to proper blending on a cloth surface and it turned out better than I expected. Gave me a bit of courage to do some more blending on a few other things since then.

Working on the bases, washed them, put down a primer, put down a basecoat and now I am drybrushing to mark out details for further painting...

Laying down the main color took forever... maby not the best way of doing things but I am stupid that way

And after that to get some texture it was time for a wash, pretty thinned down, just to give some texture.

Love to see more DA. I've had the same issue with my Dremel, even the lowest speed setting is too fast for model work.

Trying out the photobox, holy cr-p the difference is waaaay more than I thought. On the this one I haven't really spent anytime to postprocess the picture.

Just got myself some retractable scalpels (the other are the old ones), better to have in the travel kit and I like that you can use them half retracted for better control.

I really prefer these to other hobby knives since they are waaay sharper.

And there I go organizing rather than painting :/

Anyways, got myself a few spare o-rings for the airbrush and I thought it would be a good idea to get them organized.

I know the feeling about the organizing, rather then working. I’ve got an itch to re-sort my bits box personally. Plus I’m still settling in to my new workbench.

But the paint must flow…

Time to start another mini...

I have been thinking for a while that I should paint my minis in parts for easier access. So I thought I would do it this way. I choose to pose the bits as they would be on the mini to make it easier to get shading hand highlighting consistent.

Just a quick update... got some work done on the chaplain, still quite a bit to go but sofar I am pretty happy with it.

Then I got myself a Tamiya drill. It comes as a plastic kit on sprue, fantastic! It is a good middle ground between a pin vice and a Dremel. The Dremel rotates too fast and sometimes melt the plastic and the pin vice is too much work

So... you had to assemble your drill... and it came on a sprue.
That. Is. Awesome.

Yes it is! It was a fun build and it feels really solid now that it is build so they made a good job on the model.

Makes me curious in the router version of the same.
