Homebrew, the 342nd Red Army.

out of all the races in Warhammer, I've found that IG players are the one most likely to go out of their way to make their own regiment rather then following a pattern, don't know why, but thats what I've noticed

The army and empire itself is derived from the malestorm and is an alliance of multiple worlds. They frequently send expedition out of the storm on a "crusade" to purge in the name of their god.

Armies rely on infantry and Leman Russes, and they have perfected Cloning technology and their troops are numberless, though their lifespans short, and the accelerated process has lead to some deficiencies , such as the inability to process oxygen correctly, so the entire army is masked.. They have their own version of the commissariat, and they have elite well armed troopers called "Storm Troopers" who wear pitch black armor.

I voted Valhallans although my regiment is homebrew, the look and feel of the models i just love, Hand flamers ftw. [img]

I'm still a long way off from finishing though. In the next few weeks i'll be getting some panted up so i will be sure to put them in this thread/on my profile. I'm also doing a Tanith sub regiment as vets, its nice to see Celtic culture on the tabletop. Plus i've loved their 40K background since reading about them in the 3rd edtion codex.

91st Schrott Experimental
.

Officiallly the world of Schrott is classified as a "Death World", But to the Mechanicus it is a Vault World. Built into the crust of the planet a truly vast Vault contains legions of experiments, prototypes, forgotten machines and the like, all laid to rest or hidden within for one reason or another, the doors of the Vault alone ar elarge enough for a pair of Emperor Class Titans to stride through side by side with plenty of room. The planet itself is barren, with either mountains of scrap metal, from untold numbers of wrecked tanks and vehicles to the vast hulks of space craft crashed to the surface, to stark rock. Those that live on Schrott either live in small towns built form scrap metal or live inside the remains of space craft creating cities in the remains. Schrott and the 91st by extension is controlled by the Mechanicus. The vehicles and equipment of the 91st consist of either experimental or salvaged war machines, brought to life from the Vault to serve the Imperium to either prove themselves worthy or rebuilt from the dead to keep the fight going.

Some examples of the Experimental weapons are the Sonic Emitter Cannon of the "Demolisher" Leman Russ named "The Shatterer", the "Tornado" Heli Vendetta, "Banshee" Rocket Tank (Battle Tank) and more.

Salvaged machines like the "Burning Vengence" Demolisher were brought back to life to serve, itself being a Rhino chassis, hardened with armor plates and given a round heavy turret with a demolisher cannon, originally captured from enemy troops while on campaign, rebuilt, improved and sent against its previous owners.

The 91st is primarily armored but has enough infantry to be a force to be reckoned with. It is supplemented by the Experimental Exo-Suit division known as "Section 9", the best of the best wearing experimental exo-suits and wielding powerful coilguns being nearly the equivalent of Space Marines but lacking the genetic augmentation. They are few in number but fight fiercely.

New machines are constantly uncovered within the depths of the Vault or salvaged from the battlefield. A Crassus armored assault transport is nearing completion and the blueprints of a heavy combat mech have been recently discovered within the archives, the prototype machines are somewhere within the Vaults and the search has begun.

i.e I want to have an Knight but im not going to pay $140 or whatever, so I designed my own and plan on scratch building them.

God damn that's a mighty fine army you have there.
You ever take the time to add the actual points of that beauty.

No I have not. but me and some at my FLGS estimate it to be over 60,000+(with all physical upgrades counted) I also have some fortifications that are not in that picture. some trenchs and bunkers alongside the giant strongpoint on the table.

I like this thread. I play the Valhallans. I loved their flu, and the models always interested me. I have always loved snowtroopers. Ever since The Empire Strikes Back. I have a large primered but mostly unpainted army, but I'm slowly working on it.

The Valhallans on the previous page are OMG awesome, and an example of why I fell in love with Valhallans.

My regiment is the 130th Valhallan Assault Infantry, led by Captain Vladimir Husak. The regiment is known as the Mad Cows, due to their distinctive vehicle camouflage from the Indig IX Campaign.

Oh, and only about half of the figures below are Valhallans. I have almost a full platoon of the old plastic stormtroopers and not pictured, I have a squad of Mordians, a squad of Praetorians, and what was going to be my penal squad, and now my Dirty Dozen vet squad, of old RT figures, a squat and some Necromunda figures.Oh, and my Nordian Berzerker squad, converted out of Mordheim figures (the bearded heads), with autoguns.

I voted Steel Legion. Although it is a homebrew army it runs just like Armageddon with legion, tanks and Chimeras. Only difference is the colour scheme. They even come from a planet just like the legion and defend against Orks.

I like them because of the great coats and gas masks, they look cool. Plus the commanders and the commissar with a mask are some of my favorite Warhammer models of all time.

Close second favorite are the Mordians. I think my red and white Mordians are some of the best painted models I have done. The war like look of the other Iggies are cool and all, which is why Steel Legion are my number 1, but there is something about Mordians and their bright colors and pristine uniform that really intrigues me.

Mine were technically Cadians, but with my new models they've become a homebrew regiment as I keep adding models from different ranges.

The 13th Infantry Regiment, AKA "The 13th"

Originally the Cadian 13th Shock troops, formed during Abaddon's 12th crusade. At first they were sent to a neighboring system to help stop what appeared to be a surge in chaos cult activity. When the crusade hit Cadia hard, they were ordered to return and help defend. They made the jump to warp, but never arrived.

Decades later they pop up way off target and are almost shot out of the sky when they identify as the 13th Cadian Assault Regiment, as the local garrison thinks it's a chaos trick. Assumed lost decades ago, the Minitorum declared the regiment "lost in the warp" and then refounded it on Cadia. Since there can't be two "13th Cadian Assault Infantry" regiments at the same time, the unit is temporarily named the "13th Infantry Regiment". When they find out Abaddon is on his 13th crusade, they decide that it is their duty to return to Cadia by any means possible and finish the mission they were originally tasked to do, working with a crusade in the hope that it might get them closer to Cadia.

From there, Lord Generals take advantage of the unit's unusual nature to use it for "dirty jobs" that a regular regiment can't get away with. The unit becomes a dumping ground for depleted regiments, as well as "undesirables" that a regiment is sick of dealing with. Without fail, the 13th always draw the hardest missions in the worst spots, and seeing them appear alongside one's unit is seen as a bad omen. The men of the 13th have embraced this image, and many wear a stark "XIII" on their uniform to distinguish them from what they see as the truly unlucky soldiers. Since the regiment has received reinforcements from several other depleted regiments, there is no common uniform or equipment, so they all paint their left shoulder pad black, or wear a black armband with the number XIII emblazoned on it in an attempt to keep track of one another.

So yeah, it's a bit mary sueish, but it's an excuse for me to have all sorts of models in one army and still have a common theme. We'll see how well it works out, but I think it'll be fun. Plus, it gives me a convenient thing to blame whenever I roll poorly

If you want to know what they'll look like, pretty much any Sci Fi looking model in my WIP blog is being tied into the project, so you can't hardly miss them.

I voted Cadian but right now I'm working on a Storm Trooper force that, while being equipped like stormies, are considered part of the Astra Militarium rather than the Militarium Tempestus Scions. Sort of like Grenadiers or Kasrkins.

Background:
Spoiler:

They are the Visigian Jaegers. The Visigian Jaegers find their origins during the Battle of Visigia. Visigia came under attack from Hive Fleet Caesar (Pronounced Kai-zar) during the middle of M41. The space defenses folded quickly against the Tyranid hive fleet. However, the world of Visigia was not to fall so easy. Visigia was a world dedicated heart, body and soul towards the Emperor's wars. While not nearly as militarized as Cadia each individual job somehow benefited the war effort. It's prime export were Siege regiments. All across Visigia regiments in training erected, assaulted and destroyed foritifactions on a daily basis to prepare for the day they will be deployed. These established fortifications would prove key during the Battle of Visigia. When the Tyranids finally attacked it seemed like it would be a rout. Most of the population and armed forces died within a few days. However, the inspired tactics of one General Herbek Lis stopped the Tyranid defense at the Signimar Line. The Signimar line was a series of massive flak towers, sprawling underground tunnels, automated turrets, minefields, bunkers and more.

What was resulted was 2 years of near constant warfare with the most terrible Tyranid bioforms. Flak guns worked nearly constantly to shoot down flying monsters, gargoyles and even air mobile ripper swarms. Brass and steel casings formed a carpet nearly 10 meters thick in places. Underneath the surface the surviving people of Visigia were no less tireless in their toil. Everyone either worked or fought. Even worse than the dark and sweltering working conditions were the constant attacks from the genestealers that were so prevalent in the tunnels. After losing two entire communities in one day to the genestealers it was decided from high command that an elite Tyranid hunter unit was to formed. This unit was assembled from the most grizzled veterans of the fighting. They were given every suit of carapace armor the Guard had and equipped with a larger variant of the common autogun now (uncreative) called the Heavy Autogun. Equipped with a large amount of flamers the hunters, or Jaegers, were sent out to deal with Genestealers. It is from these 'nid hunters that the Visigian Jaegers were created.

Thanks to their efforts and sacrifice the war effort was allowed to continue relatively unmolested. Lictors continued to prove a threat but one could expect to walk to work and back to their bunk with relative safety. At the end the Tyranid assault simply stopped. For weeks only the occasional genestealer or lictor would be found but no organized attack was reported. Scouts were sent out and they confirmed the suspicions of the brass: The Tyranids had retreated after exhausting themselves. It is expected that they will return eventually as Visigia still has resources valuable to the Hive Mind. But for now they can rebuild. Visigia has shifted it's war effort from producing Siege Regiments to Heavy Infantry due to their small but hardened population.

The Visigian Jaegers are elite heavy infantry that can either fill the role as close assault units, airborne cavalry or mechanized shock troops. They are well equipped for the task at hand with a somewhat unique weapon called the Heavy Autogun. This weapon fires rounds shaped and sized specifically to penetrate power armor. The weapons are just as effective as Hotshot Lasguns except more durable but requiring more reloads.

Another unique quirk is their misfortune when it comes to airborne operations. For one reason or another any Valkyrie assault force inevitably finds itself either wiped to a man or in the worst situation possible. Commissars and other Departmento officials that accompany the Jaegers state that there is no reason why they should suffer such constant bad luck. More superstitous veterans claim that the Emperor has determined that their place is inside of an APC. Doing otherwise is against the will of the God Emperor and doing such will anger him.

Valhallans. I got into the TGG Kickstarter so I could have a Valhallan army, but with the removal of Chenkov, I'm beginning to reconsider.

I only do homebrew stuff. The reason is that if I were to run a particular army, any "canon" fluff would necessarily apply to my army, even if I didn't like it.

It's the reason I will never, ever run a space marine chapter with pre-established fluff, or run a chaos space marine legion. If I were to run Iron Warriors, then all of that absolute garbage that the horus heresy novels said would have to be true. Or I'd run alpha legion, but without the stupid two primarchs thing, and someone would saunter up to me and say "You're running the legion with the two primarchs", and I'd say "no I'm not" and they'd say "oh yeah? Well I READ A BOOK WHICH-"

And he'd be stopped only by being beaten to death with my copy of the CSM codex. Which means I'd have to buy a new codex (blood just never does get out of codices). I guess perhaps it IS just a cash grab by GW after all.

Anyways, were I to do a pre-made regiment for guard (which is what this poll is really fishing for), then I'd go for one I liked the miniatures of, but also didn't have a whole huge pile of "correct" history all fleshed out that I'd have to follow.

The widest intersection of those two for me would probably be Mordian. Grimdark spice and a preferred enemy and snazzy models without anything else said about them, so I could just make it up, and no one would come by and smugly attempt to contradict me.

And I wouldn't have to buy a new codex, because the AM book has virtually no fluff about Mordia in it anymore.

---

Interestingly enough, 66% of those who said mordian felt strongly enough about it to write a post in this thread saying as such. I think that's the most enthusiastic of the fans in this thread, right?

It's the Mordians. Nobody else is so orderly yet so very stylish.

If I ever started an IG army, I'd seriously consider buying Mordians.
