Finally, those Obliterators are amazing. I've got a couple of the original ones that I painted years ago, and while I never liked the models, it was all we had (and I wanted to get them on the table). I changed up the weapons a little to try and make them look a little less goofy, and swapped in some more IW-esque helmets, but yours really put them to shame. I'd love to have ones that look that good - and I think almost anyone would agree!

thanks for the praise. Those guys were pretty expensive to make. The base kit cost $80 and I had to buy some bits but was able to use a lot from my collection. I feel like the head swap you did went a long ways to improving them but that model is unfortunately unsalvageable as far as I'm concerned. I even like the really old out of print ones that were too small. I used those guys back in the day. I really enjoyed looking at your page you have some real relics on there! Love classic models!

I have three Tech Marines that I bought for the servo arms some time ago and 2 special edition Space Marine Captain that I got at games day about 10 years ago. I'm thinking about using them as my chosen what do you think?

Here's the helldrake. I really didn't like the way a normal helldrake looks and also felt like it didn't fit the look and feel of my army. I wanted a demonic tie fighter from hell! The "mouth" is made up of a buncha the centurions grinder fist things. I wanted a big maw that snatched anything up and finds it to itty bits. I think I need to straighten out the wings pose a bit but I'm tired right now. Especially since I have about a combined 8 hours in on this stupid thing. It's painted red because it's a used model I got on the cheap.

My daemon prince. Made from a Talos and a lot of guitar and piano wire. The scythe was crazy hard to build. I had to cut the teeth off of a buncha chainswords and glued them to the edges of a scything talon. Pretty much the only completed model.

Few more angles. Gotta say I'm really proud of the chain scythe.

This is the first conversion I did for the army. Built from marneus calgar, a warp smith, tech marine backpack and Axe, warp talon lightning claw, the skull smoke stacks from the DA chaplain, and sculpted a chainmail loin cloth.

This is one of the two predators that I just finished. Pretty standard but I do like the dangling chain. One of the six tanks I bought from the used model dealer at origins.

Looking great! Can't wait to see all this painted! I dig the chains on the Predator, but I still can't shake the feeling that it could use some more customization. Right now it still looks like a SM tank with bits on it. I'd love to see more gears, exposed treads, servo arms, spotlights, etc on it.

Chaos tanks are tough to do. The kit is seriously the sm kit with a sprue of spikes and trophy racks. Making tanks with as much character as my other models has been a bit of a stumbling block for me.

I've always hated that about the Chaos tanks. Really depressing. Why don't they just sculpt a unique kit? Great stuff as always

The thing about the Chaos tanks is that's exactly what they are - they're formerly-imperial tanks that have been modified and de-sanctified by the guys who drove them in the first place. I guess you could have missing panels and such to represent the fact that they're old, etc, but then again, a tank isn't that effective if it's missing big chunks of it's armour..

While I personally don't really go for the spikes and chains look myself, I found that some of the Forge World and Chapterhouse/Scibor/etc aftermarket parts work well to make them more distinctive, if not especially "non-Imperial".

For Iron Warriors (and I'm WAY behind on mine compared to yours) I'll be looking at some pre-heresy type parts like these:




And then on top of those, I'll be adding:

(Chaos Undecided and Black Legion Rhino Doors can also work in here - mixed in with the proper IW ones)

And Pre-Heresy IW doors, when they eventually get released, as well as Brass Etched bits - and I'm also more than happy to loot Iron Hands stuff, which has a good, compatible aesthetic to the IW.

And on top of THAT, I'll be adding large, brutal armour plates for that IW look. If I were more talented/less lazy, I'd probably make them fit properly and add rivets, but, well, I'm not. Parts from Vindicators and even front and side armour from the SM Hunter kit would controbute to the IW up-armoured look.

And yes, after all that, they'll still look like SM vehicles that have been blinged out, but they'll look like Iron Warriors SM Vehicles to me.


You could go with some of the cyber-tentacley look, as you have with the Warpsmith and DP, and the mechanical (Necron) bone-spine look, and even the clusters of scanner-eyes look - these would all tie the vehicles in well with the existing the look of your army, and look pretty awesome and unique.

I have those Iron Warrior parts but that armor plating kit would do wonders but it seems superfluous right now. Maybe something I can revisit.

Here's what I have for my Typhus counts as. Couldn't find a scything talon so I had to cut my own plasticard scythe.

Here's what I have for the body so far. The fire on top is supposed to be a smoke belching power plant exhaust to represent the destroyer hive. Don't know what I'm gonna do for the head yet. Hopefully I can find something cool and unique.

And here's a practice run for what I want to do for his shin guards. I think it'll work fine. I'm a bit proud of myself on that sculpting job honestly.

There's a whole lot of kick ass in this thread. Centurion Oblits may be my favorite.

The Typhus is coming along nicely. I'm really liking those Chosen, though. Very bloody nice, and unique as well since I doubt we'll be seeing a lot of that GD figure cut up and converted like that! What is the lower body/torso of the third one made of?

OK I think I have the typhus counts as finished. Had to take the head off of a chosen because it felt too cool not to use for an HQ. Also the smoke stacks Of the other lord (who I decided counts as abbadon) because they just felt right on this guy. Still have to do a little clean up on his shoulder pad but I'm quite happy.

This all looks really cool, I like the use of parts. I wish you had another backdrop to photograph against, though, the desk makes it hard to discern what's going on.
