Heh, tell that to Menoth.

The following are actual things I've said in games. Not all the same game, but I've had them all.

Opponent: "Ok, I'm gonna cast Crippling Grasp on your unit"

Menoth: "No!"

Opponent: "Fine then, I'll just shoot your jack"

Menoth: "No!"

Opponent: *grrr "I charge your unit with my Banes"

Menoth: "Harbinger's feat! all your dudes there take a pow14"

Opponent: "Ok, that guys dead so now my Jack has a charge lane"

Menoth: "Nope, Martyrdom!"

Opponent: "I feat and all your guys are Stationary!"

Menoth: "the Book says no!"

Opponent: "I'm gonna cast some spells!"

Menoth: "the Book says no!"

Opponent: "I charge your jack, I deal 5 damage to column 4"

Menoth: "Ok, my jack walks away"

Opponent: "I charge your zealots with my Stalker and attack"

Menoth: "Ok, they're invincible this turn!"

Maybe I should start a small Menoth force. to try them out...

Really though it does get tiresome to sit there and watch you forces get taken out and be unable to do...well anything.

Captain Killhammer McFighterson stared down at the surface of Earth from his high vantage point on the bridge of Starship Facemelter. Something ominous was looming on the surface. He could see a great shadow looming just underneath the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, slowly spreading northward. "That can't be good..." he muttered to himself while rubbing the super manly stubble on his chin with one hand. "But... on the other hand..." he looked at his shiny new bionic murder-arm. "This could be the perfect chance for that promotion." A perfect roundhouse kick slammed the ship's throttle into full gear. Soon orange jets of superheated plasma were visible from the space-windshield as Facemelter reentered the atmosphere at breakneck speed.

Its much more fun to sit there when your opponent is unable to do anything.

I've compared Menoth to a slow inexorable wall that slowly advances to crush the opponent. If they lack magic guns or rely heavily on spells the enemy will often be completely boned.

I dropped my Kreoss3 list against a guy playing Scaverous once. I totally didn't deliberately do this, but I could make every model in my force untargetable by spells if I wished. Finished the game with a trampling Sanctifier to Scavy's face.

Okay now you have my interest piqued. Going to have to check them out...

To be fair, pp took out and removed a lot of the 'during the other guys turn' stuff after mk1. It bogged down the game no end. I can understand them pulling the plug on a lot if that stuff, bar the occasional defensive strike and counter charge ability.

Tiresome? 10 minute turns for 50pt games in the steamroller format. It's not that long to wait.

Igoyougo is a bit of a pain, but for the quick turns that warmachine has, it works fine.

One more thing. With Convergence, you can run a very heavy Jack army. Every time a jack uses a focus it can send that used focus point to a friendly jack so a bunch of jacks, use focus and put all their focus on one jack that has one hell of a powerful turn.

I love my machine cultists.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

To clarify, each vector can only induct 1 focus a turn using that rule.

But you can have 4 vector, give 3 of them 1 focus each, have those 3 spend the focus, and each induct it to the 4th vector who will now have 3 focus(and who could theoretically induct it to another jack)

The Corollary is also awesome.

It automatically gains a focus just by being near the warcaster, it then has a * action which spends any focus on it to give that focus to another vector. And because it spent focus, it triggers induction which could go to yet another vector.

Just by being near the Warcaster, its generating 2 free focus a turn if it inducts the free focus. Or it can keep the focus from turn to turn, it basically accumulates the focus over time.

And for just 1 focus you can fully fuel 1 single jack with 3 focus with it.

You should look into covering fire, counter-charge, eHaley and other similar rules/models if you want to be more active on your opponents turn. There are actually quite a few mechanics in the game that let you be active on your opponents turn. Generally not a lot in a single list, but if you chose to focus on it I'm sure you could be quite active.

Axis from Convergence gives counter-charge to every vector in his battlegroup. That can be amazing for some opponent-disruption fun. Especially because we have a vector that knocks down an enemy when it hits with its primary weapon. Getting smacked with a POW 20 hit and knocked down during your own activation is always a great way to keep you on your toes.
