Personally, I just can't get into the aesthetic. It is very unique. Some sort of retro sci-fi fantasy that takes place partially underwater? I mean, there are lobster men with ray guns and dragon men with muskets alongside steam punk underwater explorers? It is all just a bit out there and doesn't blend well with most of what I already have.

Funnily enough, I'm almost the opposite.

ShadowSea blends in pretty well with what I've got- mainly various reptiles and aquatic based humanoids and monsters.

I can see why it might be a difficult buy in if it doesn't match up with anything you've got.

A lot of the figures do make great bad guy RPG encounters though, or filthy Xenos that need to be purged from the galaxy.

I kind of get the whole 'Doesn't Match and/or Work as "Counts As" anything' vibe but...

...I'm here for the fantastic looking models that work wonderfully well for this game system!

It is a very nice skirmish scale set of rules, and works a lot better for me than the Bloat that is Warhammer FB/40K these days.

Yeah, I can see what you mean, that might be part of the reason they're not more successful I guess. I got in on the first campaign mostly for the more generic stuff, that I have direct use for in the RPG's I play; got almost all the lizardmen, the Axibalans (beastmen for D&D and Warhammer Fantasy RPG, amazonians for more sword & sorcery type gaming), the troglodytes, and a couple of the Dark Mariners to use as abberrant baddies or mutant freaks. But having been exposed to it a bit more, and reading through the ShadowSea book has made me warm up to the whole thing as a stand alone setting. It's pretty cool I think.

I pick and choose from the range- some of the sculpts are absolutely amazing. And I'm using them for counts-as

A week to go on this. It's kind of stalled right above $10K and 80 backers; could really use some more support!

Indeed. Here's hoping we can unlock the Queen of the Deep at the least! Although I'd also like the objective counters & terrain pieces as well ...

Dear Dakka,

Please spend more money so I can have these.
Spoiler:

That new guy at 14k is what I want.

Thanks,

Will the redesigned Kalath eventually be in no matter what?

I mean, somewhat later on down the road, post-Kickstarter?

I would hope so.

Eric should see that there's obviously demand for it.

Worst case, maybe he can do a super short campaign for just that and a few oddball figures if there's enough demand.

We're down to 46 hours on this now, and a couple of stretch goals have recently been passed: the treasure marker scenic terrain, the crystal outcropping, and Lithiana, Queen of the Deep are now all available! Up ahead is the fungal patch (hey, that sounds... iffy), Kalath the Reaver, the explosive fungal pod (no... just no, don't go there), and finally the mighty Albaxus Flametongue at $14.5K. Hopefully we'll get a few of these, it would be fantastic if we could get all the way to $15K as that would mean a freebie point is added.

It would also be sweet as sugar pie if we could achieve 100 backers on this (there are 88 of us now). So if any of you have $15 burning a hole in your pocket, why not throw in for a mini and a painting guide? And if you've got a little bit more to spare, the Major pledge level offers a fantastic deal. For $125 you get 18 points if you trade everything in, netting you $6.94 per point. Now those points can be used to purchase minis, with most of the 1-point minis retailing at around $12, but with some all the way up to $20 (so that's like between 60% and $35% of the retail price).

Good! Now I need to reread the Shadowsea rulebook as to what item is used more often, treasure or outcropping (I think treasure).

Would like to see these Draconids figures produced. Not so sure about the fungus terrain ... it may be possible to DIY for those items. I have a mushroom-making how-to in a diorama book for 54mm minis. That makes them giant for 28-32mm figures. The book is Advanced Terrain Modeling by Richard Windrow and is part of the Osprey Masterclass series if anyone is interested.

Cool! Huh, mushrooms seem popular; a guy in the comments section posted a link to a tutorial for the mushroom-work he's been doing with his ShadowSea stuff:
http://hephsforge.blogspot.nl/2014/08/fungus-among-us-mushroom-tutorial.html

Anyway, the mushroom terrain stretch goal has now been achieved, and we're closing in on the mighty dinosaur-straddling Kalath! Also, 92 backers now... getting close to that magic number 100.

Those are some pretty big mushrooms. Neat.

I almost wonder if it's worth having Antimatter pursuing a terrain KS at some point in the future. Maybe there would be more appeal?

I just don't get how there aren't more backers. Don't get me wrong, this campaign has been a success- I'm happy to get that Draconid starter, as that's what I wanted the last time around!

My question is though, why is it that Mierce can bring in over 100,000 POUNDS and have well over 400+ backers on each campaign, with quite a lot of people continuing to add to their orders months after the campaign (I doubt I'm the only one who does this) but ShadowSea is struggling to break a hundred people? This isn't a knock on Mierce either- I LOVE the stuff they've been putting out.

ShadowSea and DeepWars both have established rulesets, are open and adaptable to all sorts of customization (as well as interaction with whatever sorts of models you probably already own), need only a handful of figures to get you going, and are substantially cheaper than Mierce's work, often with far better discounts worked in during their campaigns.

Is it the usability of the models? The designs? Sculpt quality? Gameplay?

I just don't get it.

Perhaps the multitude of other Kickstarters they've done?

I went in big for Deep Wars. Haven't played it. The new updated rule set to a game I've yet to play isn't a huge draw.

Don't get me wrong, they have a lot of good will. But it's been spaced out over several campaigns.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

For me personally, it is the designs. I like a couple of their more traditional fantasy models (that templar demon hunter is very nice), but nothing else really appeals to me.

Thanks for the link. Well, mushrooms are weird-looking things and they make the terrain that much more alien and exotic.

After seeing the posted design sketch, I retract my earlier statement. Now those are GIANT mushrooms!

As regards a terrain KS ... is it really feasible for AMG to do such? Shadowsea and Deepwars have such specialized terrain it will be difficult to get sales outside of their own games. Unsold stock is working capital tied up which is bad for any business, but especially small businesses. Now if they had more product that had cross-over appeal, then perhaps they could increase the pool of potential customers.

Edit 1: Hey, the KS is at 102 backers! A freebie point for all backers!

And $15K has been smashed, so backers at $100+ now get TWO bonus points! New stretch goals are up, looking good this!

I'd say there's always a market for giant mushrooms. Treasure tokens, crystal growths, overgrown statues... I think little accent pieces like that are always in demand.

But yeah, the more mundane and less exotic stuff is probably what would have the best crossover potential.

We've also jumped the 15k mark, which means *ANOTHER* bonus point to those backing at 125 and up!

I'm just happy to be getting nothing but dragon men in the coming months.

Definitely will be getting an extra Royal Guard or two to convert to carrying ancient energy weapons.

Nice surge at the end for this one!

I'm in for a "Major" level now, with more sure to be added later.

I love the miniatures from Antimatter, and the game is a lot of fun too!

Pledged at Major level, but that will probably stay there. Now have to decide if I want to pay extra shipping to get two shipments.

Here's what my current plans are (without taking into account the new terrain pieces).
Two Deepwars warbands (Dark Mariners & Ancients) 8pts.
Thulaja $10 (1pt)
Chimalma $10 (1pt)
Koth-Yan Beastman $18 (2pt)
Deepwars softcover rulebook. 3pts.
Total = 15pts

Everyone who backed this KS at $100+ gets +2pts, and those who backed the Shadowsea KS at $50+ get +1pt as well. So I have 6pts unaccounted for ... 1 for Lithiana, Queen of the Deep and 1 for printed painting guide. Mushrooms probably, and a Nautiloid is a strong contender.

I wish that $50 from the previous campaign included what was spent in the pledge manager. I wasn't able to commit much at the time of the last campaign, but most certainly spent my fair share before all was said and done.

My plan is Draconids. Nothing but. Every single one that was unlocked during the campaign. I will be a happy camper for sure!

Will add scenery pieces via PM, and let my daughter pick one of those licensed ladies to work on together.

Locked in my pledge today!

Went with the Draconid and Fortune Hunter ShadowSea Deluxe Starters, and spent my points on Lithiana (Dark Mariners), the Fungal Scenery and, of course, Kalath!

I mean, a Dinosaur, riding a Dinosaur - irresistible!

I've got a bunch of DeepWars stuff, so I fully expect to enjoy this setting too...

I ordered every single new Draconid figure. All of them.

Plus some shrooms next week.

Hopefully by then the Harlequin unlocks, I can buy him, as do others, creating a never ending chain of unlocking new draconids.

I think by the end of October I'll be pretty well set on new reptile personalities. At which point I can then turn to Shieldwolf for a bunch of rank and file dragon men.
