Well... My mate who has the puppies also just got himself a Chaos army Which is good as we now can actually team up together for a change, though he's not used them yet. But he also runs Tau #twitch (So many bad memories).

We've always toyed with the idea of letting me use drop pods for a few units to at least get some playtesting out of the way. But we've not bothered as yet. Just doesn't feel right unless the big GW says it's not cheating.

But maybe one day I will give it a bash.

Tbh 7th ed now states that I can kinda.... ally with IoM. Just have to deploy 12" away from them at all times. So it is doable. You're just restricted and have to stay away from them at all times. No fistbump buddys that can jump into each others rides, etc. But meh. Suppose it's better than nothing. Though I may have to re-read that faction info at the start of the book.

But really this is all down to GW's own making since they brought back Allies. I wonder what the codex balance would be like without them.

Eastern Washington

More craftworld books for Eldar, clan books for Orks, etc. That would be enogh for the xenos. As to the IoM, i think its a bit much, but not by a lot. There the protagonist race. Humans, to whom we can all relate.

This is what the game and the rules and everything else is designed to do. If they could get away with only producing plastic space marines they would. Everybody would play space marines and therefore every space marine release would be usable by (read: sellable to) everyone. Unfortunately space marine players demand a variety of opponents so they have to produce a few NPC armies for the space marines to fight. But make no mistake, those armies only exist to help sell space marines.

This is the Angry Kid explanation of it.

The reality is "Space Marines sell far more models than any other faction. We should find ways to tap into that market."

GW is a business. They sell what is profitable. They don't sell Space Marines because they want to sell Space Marines. They sell Space Marines because people want to buy Space Marines and thus GW gives them more Space Marines to buy.

I'd imagine that GW would be far more happy it if people loved Orks, or Imperial Guardsmen or Tyranids, lol. You need twice as many of them to play. If they could have one Space Marine codex and five Imperial Guard codexes, their annual revenues would be significantly higher. But nope. People love Space Marines.

It's just the way it is. Getting angry and ranting about Games Workshop won't change that.

No. If people loved Orks, IG and Tyranids GW would have to fully support 3 armies rather than just 1. And they would only get a third of the sales with each new release.

GW would be far more happy if they could hit the same sales figures selling just tac squad boxes (or just ork boyz or just cypher dataslates or whatever). They would eliminate the rest of the miniature range in a heartbeat if that were the case. Think of how much they would save in overhead! No more design studio, no more multiple SKU codes - it would be great! And if they didn't have to make rules anymore? Homerun! Now if only those pesky customers would stop being so demanding.

But I retract my original point. GW isn't just about selling space marines. GW wishes they were just about selling space marines. GW is just about selling crap to space marine players. Yeah, and that crap includes Chaos daemons. Because space marines can now summon them for some reason. I can't wait until they allow Blood Angels to summon Nagash.

Short answer. Yes.

When they can all BB with each other, it allows you to mix & match the most powerful and broken combos into one another. Leaving the Xenos armies to just sit there and take it.

If you want to use 'lore' to justify it, sure let's talk about 'lore'. Let's talk about how the Dark Eldar, Eldar & Necrons are mellenia more advanced than the IoM and have worse weapons and armor than them.

Of course they do, theyre gws bread and butter, and fluff wise theyre the status quo. I play chaos and if its with my local group i ally in tempestus and knights as i find the stormtroopers really cool and sinister looking and there are chaos knights in the fluff. Whats the problem with daemon allies exactly?
