What would people recommend for Infinity miniatures?

I was thinking using the pluck foam varieties so I can get the exact sizes I want for each slot (so use the 'D' variety of foam trays). I'll aim towards more the D3H for troops so they have no chance of being crushed or squashed due to the added height available, D2H for 40mm based miniatures like bikes, sappers, and Ariadna werewolf character miniatures, and D5H trays for the TAG's (should only need one of these).

Has anyone used these for Infinity, and what trays did you go for as a setup for your case? My current choice is a standard case with 1 x D3H (troops), 1 x D5H (TAG's), and 2 x D2H (bikes and 40mm based miniatures), and a second case (likely the free one) with either 3 x D3T for a lot of troops, or perhaps 1 x D5H and 4 x D3H so I can have more room for TAG's and the like as my collection grows, while also having enough room for all the troops I might want to take.

Thoughts?

Whilst I've not yet done it myself, I do have a lot of experience of designing KR cases for fairly specific needs (including other skirmish games), and I have looked at this exact question.

My plan is to have one half of the case with 2 x F4H trays for standard size minis (fusiliers, order sergeants, so on). Then 2 x D4H 'pick and pluck' trays, as they can each be made into 15 slightly larger, squarer slots for more dynamic minis.

On the other side will be a 50mm deep tray for a couple of 55mm-based TAGs/large based remotes (not sure on tray type yet as I'd need at least one of the models to start matching up the sizes), then a 32mm deep tray on top for the forthcoming smaller 40mm-based TAGs, and any really large infantry. Then I'd need a couple of spare tray covers to fill the depth.

If you haven't seen it already, KR have an excellent set of pdfs with their trays layouts on here, I always aim for slightly shallower trays than the base sizes, as when the case closes on the trays they compress and hold the minis in place, rather than giving them room to bounce about it.

Good idea, I was a little worried about that actually. I'll check out the PDF's, and thank you for your recommendations!

Now to decide between using an aluminium case, or go for a Kaiser 2 which will give me 3 cases, 2 I can use for Infinity, and the freebie I can use for Malifaux.

Edit: For Malifaux, I am guessing the 31mm deep trays are a better option for regular miniatures than 23mm due to the larger size of the Malifaux base? Will it still keep it snug?

Also Riquende, why did you choose F4H sized trays for regular figures, when they look like double-wide cells, compared to the smaller M size or D sized cells? Is there something I am missing here?

I can't imagined the aluminium case being very condiment to transport stuff. Great protection though.

Ok, I have decided. I will be buying a Kaiser 1 case which has 3 x F3H , 1 x J2H and 1 x D2H trays in it for Malifaux. That should work nicely as it allows me to make spaces for 30mm figures in the 'F' sized trays, 40mm in the 'D' sized tray, and 50mm in the 'F' sized tray.

Total is 54 30mm based figures, approx 15 40mm based figures, and 12 50mm based figures. I think this is a good load out.

For my bonus case, I will make it for Infinity and go for 4 x F4H for the regular figures (the extra size gives them a bit more room for larger guns, poses etc), and 2 x J2H for the TAG's and other units which go on 55mm bases. My dudes on 40mm Bases can go with them, if I have many of them at all. Playing Ariadna, it seems most of the larger figures are all moving over to 55mm bases.

Total is 72 25mm based figures and 24 55mm based figures (and smaller as required).

This has taken a while to figure out but I am glad I have, as I know exactly what I want for my miniatures and how to get the best trays for them.

Thought about it, but I've already got a Kaiser 3 so I don't really need another bag. I'll save my planned couple of case purchases for when it's more urgent.

I have a question. You said it ends on the 31st, does that mean that you can still purchase it and the promotion on the 31st or does it mean that the 30th is the last day?

I ask because I get paid on the 31st and am thinking about picking up a case. This promotion makes it a great opportunity.

Alright, I got a Kaiser 2 and a free case with free shipping. Since I have that paypal credit and have the option to pay it off over 6 months with 0 interest, I couldn't say no.

Should hold all my FoW stuff I'll ever get and my winter war kickstarter stuff in the free Card case.

Looking forward to having a new, not janky case that doesn't reek of odd odors and desperate attempts to remove the smell with baking soda.

For info, the pockets on the Kaiser2 bag hold the hardback codexes easily.
I don't have the full BRB so I couldn't try that as well, but the Kaiser bags are enough to carry all my gaming gear alongside the models.

Yeah the carrying space and ability to switch books and cases around quickly made me choose the Kaiser 1 over an aluminium carry case for myself.

This.

I'm really interested in getting the backpack (since I saw it in one of Miniwargaming's vids) for my Orks, but I end up shutting the browser window in frustration every time I try to navigate that bleeding website!

The site will improve over time, but in the meantime just drop an email to us at sales@krmulticase.co.uk and we will invoice you directly for what you need. If you have an army list include that and we will select the best trays (as few as possible) for your army. It has been very busy of late with the free case offer so it may take a day or 2 to answer, but if your email is in before the deadline we will honour the offer of the free case when we get your invoice off to you, even if it takes a couple of emails to get the best tray set and case agreed.

I'll send you an email, but dude, it's certainly been like this a while! You are a company I have bought from previously and hold dear to my heart since you are based in my hometown, but you must lose a tonne of sales to that interface!

I take it that if I order a Kaiser1, with the Cryx1 premade set in light green, i'll simply pay 28.99?

Yeah KR is a great company, but the website is indeed very confusing. It has some amazing functionality, it's just a layout and presentation problem.

Also you can't order an empty bag and get a free case.

The Kaiser1 with the Cryx1 premade set in light green is £59.99, and then you just need to tell us what you want in your free case, email us at sales@krmulticase.co.uk

The colour trays have been more popular than I ever imagined, and the website is being revised to improve the selection process for colour trays, as well as another big change at the factory too to accommodate the increased demand on the colour trays. Eventually we will get to the perfect solution that suits everyone's needs on the KR website,

The bag has to be full to order. So if you order a K1 it has to be with a case and then you get another free.

I wanted to order a K2 with one case and get the second to fill it free but that doesn't seem like an option either sadly.

Yeah it took a couple of days of me checking about back and forth on the site to find out exactly what kind of loadout I needed for my miniatures, even requiring me to hold a small ruler up to the computer monitor so I could best estimate dimensions on the foam slots, especially the pick and pluck kind. I got there in the end, but it did take quite a bit of doing.

If you come up with a better way of doing all of this, it would be really great, and definitely help your sales. I now know what I am looking for in a case, so I am pretty set, but for the uninitiated it would really help them a huge amount.

I don't know why the tray layout pdfs don't get pushed more (and updated with designs for the new trays) on the site. They've always helped me get exactly what I needed when making a case.

I'd also recommend ringing KR and talking through requirements - I had to do that when making a 6mm case for my Epic, and the guy I spoke to was really helpful and we even managed to work out we could fit an extra tray beyond what the website said we could.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. So... since the Tray Selector is out of date, there's actually no way to fill a case without using the Autofill? I can't pick the trays myself from the start? Basically I have to figure out by myself how many trays fit it one case. This is gonna be WAY harder than I thought.

My advice would be:

- Ditch the Tray Selector and update the Autofill function to include the same functionality. It already looks the part, but why can't I swap out any tray I want? I can't, for example, exchange two half-height trays for one full-height, or simply remove trays and put new ones in. If I want to switch out some trays, even if they don't fit with the models I selected according to the Autofill function, let me! I also can't mix and match different armies in the same case.

- List examples of models that will fit in a (non-custom) specific tray.

- List the height of the trays EVERYWHERE (in fractions), especially on every page where you are choosing trays. I can see it in the checkout, but that's not doing me any good while I'm choosing.

- Make the relevant options much more visible, for example huge buttons on the front page saying something like

Choose one:
*Fill your KR case by selecting the models you own.
*Fill your KR case by selecting which trays you would like.

Names like "Autofill" etc are not really self-explanatory, and it doesn't help that they aren't advertised on the front page. An idiot-proof two- or three-button choice advertised like crazy on the front page, with more advanced option nestled in menus at the side, is preferably to the current system of everything nestled in different menus, not knowing what to pick.

Right now, when I go to the front page, I can choose

- Autofill
- Tray Selector
- Tray Creator
- By Army
- By case
- By trays

and when I choose by army, I can choose

- prefilled
- bespoke
- just trays
- just core
- just custom

and if I click "bespoke", I arrive not at the Tray Selector (which would be logical), but at a separate page where I have to manually enter the names of the trays I want, without any information about how many will fit in my case. It's all incredibly confusing and there are way too many options at any one time. I love your product, and wish you all the success, so this is not me complaining, just trying to give constructive criticism.

I had to do a lot of cross referencing, had one tab open to the tray list at all times, and then fiddled with the foam selector thing for a couple of days before I felt happy about my order. It never crossed my mind to just, you know, call them to make sure I got a smart selection though. We'll see if I did it right or not soon enough. Basically, just double check everything, that's what I did. .

One thing I can definitely say about them that is good though is that apparently my case is already at my house. I ordered that thing at 1am Sunday night.

EDIT:
Finally got to look at my cases, very happy with them.

One piece of advice I would give, if you're going to put metal models in these things, make sure you get the foam trays in halves, not whole sheets that go across the whole box. They can't support a lot of weight since they're so soft, and the tray will just flex inward. That said, the soft foam is very nice for models. I was able to squeeze models in nice and snug and since the bottoms of trays are soft too, you can leave a bit of the model sticking up and it will just nestle itself into the bottom of the layer above it. The card cases and the bag are quite nice as well. If these end up working well for me, I may have to consider a couple more card cases and a backpack for down the road.

I'm in Sweden, so I don't really have the option of calling them. And even if I did, what I actually want to do is experiment by myself, swapping trays in and out to create a case that suits me and my current and possible future purchases as well as possible. Trying to do this through someone else would be impossible or incredibly time-consuming, sadly. I've spent around 1,5 hours tonight looking around the website trying to figure out how I should approach this, and my conclusion is that it would take hours of fiddling around, cross-referencing and double-checking, and I don't really have that in me right now. I would LOVE if this was an easy process, and it really could be. I already own (and love) a KR case, but I'm not sure I have the time to sit down and figure out what I might want/need.

What would be cool would be a silhouette which could be super imposed over their trays to show you exactly what you could fit in and how, giving dimensions of the model. For example, as sci-fi miniature could be shown standing in an upright pose with a gun out to the side, and show the dimensions of the miniature in height and width and how much space it takes up in the slot.

Also including information as to which slots suit what bases best (ie which is the best for 25mm, 30mm, 40mm etc base sizes) would be really cool.

And then, using the selector to make the choices for your case which gives you the visual of how it's put together (much like the flash animation you have to see which tray fits in which case), and then becomes something you can click and order from would be useful.

Not sure how a re-work would be implemented, but I am sure there are programmers out there who can do as much for you.

Your thoughts are spot on Mymearan. That is the direction we are heading in, and the target is that the AutoFill will be fully editable (like the TraySelector which was really the start of helping to fill a case to the maximum capacity). The tools on there like the TrayGuides to show all trays for an army are helpful to a lot of people, but I agree if you are short of time it is not always ideal for each person. That is why I always suggest that people simply email their army list to us at KR - we will work out the most efficient (ie the least number of trays) and the case options for you. We get around 30-40 army lists a day and get replies out on them within a couple of days. That said, the AutoFill to add specific models has been a great success too, and we added Generic Figures to it last week - so now you can simply say that you have 200 figures of 28mm Sci-Fi models and we do the work for you. It lets you choose various scales (6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, 28mm, and either Sci-Fi, Historical or Fantasy).

Fenriswolf - we have plans in place for information along those lines too, and once it is all in place it will be another step in the right direction.

Gone-to-ground in the craters of Coventry

After spending far, far too long working out what I want, the things I'd like to see on the KR site are:
1. Markings on the L-shaped guides in the photos. I can't tell whether a tray is 2/3 or 1/2 height. With 2 sets of markings on the back, that would be a lot easier. Green 1/3 and 2/3 lines across the back, and red 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 lines. Change the colours as needed.
2. The same dimensions in the tray descriptions. Most non-custom trays show the mm measurements, but it's a pain to work out each mm size really means. Most custom trays seem to have no dimensions listed.
3. Details of the pockets on the bags. The new Kaiser bags are great, and the pockets on the Kaiser2 and backpack both hold everything I need. For new customers, it's the sort of thing I'd have liked to have listed.
4. It's a bit cheeky to ask for this one, but a "coming soon" for new GW products would be nice. The latest wave of Eldar models took some time to get trays, and knowing they're being worked on would save us time poking through the custom trays looking for the right one.

KR have been a pleasure to deal with. Even when someone dealing with a problem left the company, a quick chase and we were back on track in no time.
When I messed up and the trays I filled a case with didn't quite fill the box, I was quickly emailed to point that out, and I changed a tray for a different sized one.
So, I'll email this list in directly, and there'll be another order along soon after my next spending spree on models.

And, it's good to see such a lot of direct communication with your customers. If only all companies did this *cough*GW*cough*
