Most of my stuff gets opened the second I get to the car or right as I get home. An unopened box of minis rarely makes it through the front door unopened.

But right now I have:
6-7 sealed boxes for 40k. 3 boxes are High Elves that I got for dirt cheap at the FLGS.
6 unopened Churchill blisters for Flames of War.
2 squads of Panzergrenadiers NOS for Bolt Action.
1 half build box of Easy 8 Shermans for FoW.
4 opened Tau boxes
1 Space Marine Tac squad cut off sprue.

I'm going to answer the question which was asked and say that I have no unopened boxes in my painting backlog. I don't buy stuff unless I have a plan for it. And since I shop at the local GW, I never run into the situation of there being a sale on a particular item which I may not have normally purchased.

The reason I phrased the first bit like that is because the OP said something which made me think that maybe he meant how much stuff do we have left to paint, since part of it seemed to equate opened boxes with painted armies ready to go. So I'll answer the possible intended question of "How much stuff do you have left to paint?" as well.

And the answer to that is pretty much all of it. I can paint decently, but I'm a slow painter (it takes me an hour to paint a standard Lizardman Saurus Warrior, and that's just base colors, a little drybrushing and a teeny bit of shading) and most of all, I don't enjoy painting unless I've got an urge to get a particular model painted. And those urges can run out while I'm still painting that model.

However, I do enjoy converting and kitbashing models. Coming up with a new model that I've never done before is the most fun I have on the hobby side. And I'm pretty good at it, at least when it comes to Space Marines.

It was a bit disheartening though, when I was wondering what to use one of my conversions as in the tabletop game, and one of the replies basically said that the people at their club would "deal with" that model by targeting it first to remove it from the board as quickly as possible and that I should feel lucky if the people I play with don't do the same.

My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

Old metal + plastic thousand Sons, SM Scout bikes, IG Command Platoon, 1 LRMBT, 1 Chimera, 1 Baneblade (purchased the day it was released, if that gives you any indication of how long I can sit on a model before working on it) 1 SM Tac Squad, 1 DA Veteran box (purchased for conversion use, but still unopened) and 1 VC Coven Throne.

I also have a VC Black Coach, but I've assembled more than 50% of it, so I can't count that.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

I've actually packed away all my 40k, both out of frustration and I'm going abroad for a long time, but before I left, I made sure everything was built. I don't often let boxes linger, only when in the midst of a project I've bulk-bought, and I'll unbox as I go through it.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Down to 5 boxes, from the 8 just a week ago.

Only got the chaos part (bar the cultists) left from DV, and have been assembling my Venerable Dreadnought I picked up the day it was released.

This is embarrassing.

I should mention that I have nearly 5000 points of ready to play space wolves. I'm just too ambitious for how much spare time I have!

plus there is this thing about games workshop namely that impulse buying is ALWAYS a good thing unless:

1) you literally lose all interest in the army afterwards

2) you are a tourney / pickup games player and have to keep up with new codex releases and a new codex completely invalidates your build

because otherwise, the thing is - if you like the model, buy it.

Chances are, couple years down the line it will either be OOP or costlier. There's a chance that it will get replaced by a model that looks more awesome (see new tau broadsides) but OTOH there's also the chance that it gets replaced by something that looks worse (see current Eldar banshees)

I just added a Storm Talon and two Land Speeder Typhoons to my pile of stuff to do. It is a pretty big breach of protocol for me. Even worse part is that I want to get even MORE stuff. I made the mistake of asking the kind people on these very forums what I am missing from my collection. Now I NEED to get a Vindicator and some more drop pods. Stupid me.

I've got one chimera I'll convert into a wyvern when the FW Navy Missile Launchers arrive. At most I'll probably only have 2 boxes unopened except for when I'm looking to seriously expand my army.
