In addition to putting my own painting efforts to shame, I love the way that white has come out. Really crisp.

I've a bunch more pics they did send me, but I'll hold back till I can verify the pieces with my own eyes. But i honestly can say I'm looking forward to holding them in my own, grubby hands

Well, their prices are in USD, so I'd think they'd accept US based comissions

Alrighty, it is that time again!

The miniatures arrived at my place today.

Not that much to add to the process really... Everything went as expected, no mistakes this time
The entire process took a bit longer than the Raptor, which I attribute to two different aspects:
- Christmas and Holidays ("Can you get this ready as a Xmas gift?)
- the painter was not as excited with this as he was with the Raptor. If you actually follow their studio updates, he was handling the Raptor after assembly even though he was supposed to paint something else

On the actual paintjob - as good as was expected. Another fabulous paintjob, as you can judge by the pictures for yourself.

This time however they went a step further than I would have expected. I ordered a Librarian with customizable weapons - sword, axe and stave.
What I got was a multi-pose model indeed. They even coughed up an extra arm other then the stock stave-wielding one to fit the axe and sword to - which makes the model that more dynamic and less goofy. Without cost *cough BTP* I actually enjoyed the fact that I could "Bernd das Brot" him by putting the axe directly to his shoulder, if you get my drift
Besides that I also got a lil gimmick in the form of a dice bag and three dice - not much, but probably enough for the tinfoil people out there to scream murder again for a "paid" review.

Anyway, I'm convinced now that, if I ever want a miniature painted to a high standard, I will go to DoI.
I'm itching to have a 2k Army painted by them, but I fear that would ruin me... having and wanting more and more models to add to the collection

This time - nothing to complain about. 10/10 DoI. A job well done.

Also, I'll stop with the reviews since I'm growing a bias here.
I might just upload the pictures with a small commentary on further comissions.

Not sure why it's "tinfoil hat" territory. You told the business it would get a public review. Busines goes the extra mile and even throws in freebies. We saw it coming, glad you got some extra swag and well-painted minis. This is not a slight on you or the service.

Well mainly because I was "accused" of such behavior already in light of the BTP scandal and Moff3l.
Actually I didn't tell them of the review (which was the Raptor, the Libby and Sammael came month after as a 2nd commission). The result was of the same quality, if not slightly better (magnet damage), than the Raptor.

If after receiving a satisfying product and writing an, as many said, fair review, ordering from the same studio is somehow morally amigous - I don't know

Concerning the extra arm: it might very well be standard practice and the dice bag may be a result that I added a few $ on the price after seeing the results to do some good for the painters (which got turned into free pizza for the studio) as a thank you for my thank you

I honestly don't think a review has anything to do with it. If you look around, the web already has ample supply that DoI provides good results for their customers, I'm not an exception here.

"Accused" is a bizarre word in this case. But, since we're using the word, I "accused" you of said behavior: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/624597.page#7423653

You got a Fire Raptor done that you were happy with. DOI has no knowledge of your intent to review. You reviewed it. DOI pops into the thread. You then mention that you're planning to get more stuff done by them and it will be reviewed ITT. DOI is now aware they will be reviewed. I said, " hey, since they're being reviewed, I bet they'll do an extra good job." Surprise! Extra arms on Libby and free dice bag.

In summary: Fire Raptor review - useful for determining a service's typical work. Sammael review - not useful for determining a service's typical work.

Concerning the extra arm: it might very well be standard practice and the dice bag may be a result that I added a few $ on the price after seeing the results to do some good for the painters (which got turned into free pizza for the studio) as a thank you for my thank you

Okay then, the pending review of their work had nothing to do with the extra effort. You gave them more money, so they did a better job. Not an unreasonable assumption.

I honestly don't think a review has anything to do with it. If you look around, the web already has ample supply that DoI provides good results for their customers, I'm not an exception here.

I'm not being critical of DOI. I rather like their work. At this point, I just don't understand why 1) you think that I think you did something wrong and 2) you can't possibly imagine a world where if you tell someone their work will be made public, they won't put in extra effort. If you can't objectively see my point, discussing this further is fruitless.

That is why I put it in quotation marks

Of course I see your point.
The problem with this is (maybe it is just perceived by me and not at all intended in any way) is, that I did not write the reviews with the intent of "bribing" DoI, basically doing all this for my own gains and purposes.
I'm not a good Samaritan or something, but my intention was, and is, to give something back to the community. Originally the idea to do this first came with the big BTP topic - the lack of objective reviews leading to customers being dissappointed and mislead when giving orders to commissions.
So I decided to share my experience.
It turned out well and I did a 2nd one and shared the experience, just to show it is not a fluke and that DoI consistantly provides work on the same level.

I usually live by a simple motto - people can think of me whatever they want - as long as it is true. So if I acted like a donkey-cave, you can call me a donkey cave.

If you assume i did this for my own benefit, I'll object

Quick "news":
I did order some of their resin bases, so i can base my (bike) army fitting to the models I got done by them.
After receiving the package, I made the suggestion that a painting tutorial would be a good thing for those that want to try and keep the same look.
About 2 weeks later, despite a busy schedule, this surfaced:

Talk about awesome customer service.

New Stuff:

Execution Force and a few CSM from the box

https://www.flickr.com/photos/denofimagination/sets/72157653918033083

Took quite a while longer than the last comissions. They had an influx of orders before mine and I was informed about it, so all is well.

All in all nice. The drybrushing on the callidus is a bit much for my tastes (it's toeing the line of dusty "too much drybrush" look), and the cape on the chaos lord doesn't look black to me, it looks a bit unpainted, but that could be camera doing that.

Other than that, super duper nice.

I'll take a closer look at your points once the models arrive and I can see them in person.
The CSM and Lord are "only" level 3 though, so a good chunk below the Assassins.

Time for something new... Took me a year to get a project done again for lack of money and/or ideas.

2 Knights.

Look for yourself:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URrNy2SDVw0

My instructions were basically to do a Mechanicus Knight and the Crucible of Wrath (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Crucible_of_Wrath).
I request a dead EC Marine on the base of the crucible as a jap towards my most common enemy that plays those guys.
Another request was to make the "special" weapons interchangeable colour wise so I can fit them to both knights.
Now, the studio has grown immensly since my first commission... but...
They delivered.
They look absolutely awesome and I'm as happy as I ever was with their services. Every painter the hired in addition keeps to their style and the level of quality you expect.

The only small qualm so far I'd have is that the magnets they used are strong. Really strong. Strong enough to break off the super glue. Nothing that cannot be fixed, but those magnets DO have a nasty, nasty pull to them.

I'm already looking forward to having my next project in the works.. there's just nothing better than seeing your models the first time in their studio updates!
