This probably bears some explaining.

It's a gun.

I did a design and my friend is smithing it. I'm going to be finishing it, adding a wooden stock (though I'm not sure how being that he didn't follow the instructions), and Imperial decor.

As a commissar, buttery or otherwise, shouldn’t you be packing a bolt pistol or better? Although I could see an advantage of las weapons for summery executions of dairy products that have gone bad...

Well, Commissars are amongst those few officers entitled to carry a Hell pistol..

And as for "better", Las and Hell pistols are the executioner's weapon of choice if you don't want blood on your clothing. The increased heat cauterises the blast so at closer ranger you're not fishing pieces of guardsman out of your hat, too.

That's my reason, and it's nothing to do with my slender lady-hands not being capable of lifting a bolt pistol.

Hehe, I know, it's a little crazy...

Well, I figured, "I have one chance to ask someone to do this for me, the worst that can happen, is he says "No, that is ridiculous!"..."
As it turns out, he thought it was cool as well. We can't put any licensed marks like the Aquila on it until it's in my grubby hands, though.

It is also hollow and welded, I'll admit. Solid metal would have been obscenely heavy.

Looking at initial completion on Monday, I'll hopefully get my hands on it by later in the month. I'm going to have to learn what markings need to be put on it to take it to cosplay events.

I know, a lasgun with orange tape on it.. But it does start to bear a resemblance to real weaponry when it's metal.

Next up: Find a leather worker! Buttery needs a holster.

Thanks guys! I realise this blog has become a little eccentric (Orks, Tanith, 2000AD, IG, crayons, metal work and I haven't even shown you my handmade costumes).. But it will start to pull together soon.

I'm settling down to do my Tanith and Ghosts this weekend, I've finally gathered all the basing materials I wanted to make the camo cloaks. Including individual laser cut oak leaves (autumn and spring) four types of grass, and some wishful thinking.
I cracked and bought another large lot of them on eBay this week, so I need to get these done before I end up too swamped.
I think it brings my pure Tanith total to 87 before we count my sniper converts, custom Bragg (heavy bolter) and conversions.

...but your thread has hundreds of pages! I've managed to totally lose focus by the second post.

Actually my lead pile is only about four shoeboxes maximum, and a small, glass corner cabinet... and that would include space for the packaging and blisters.
Yeah, I know, it's shocking, I am determined to only own what I can physically paint and use. Occasionally I even purge the back log by giving a chunk away to local groups or friends.
I come from a long family of "That'll come in useful some day..." and I will not let it take hold when I'm only in my twenties. (My) books are meant to be read, (my) minis are meant to be painted... No judging of anyone else!

The reason I'm so sporadic in this topic is that I am just very easily distracted.

Speaking of which. My Kelpie WIP (I thought you were painting Tanith? What, these Tanith that are still in the front room...?)

A Kelpie is a monster I grew up reading local mythology stories about, along with trolls, dragons, pixies and other nasty little bastards.

She is going to have a beach sand base, with sea water (Vallejo gel water effects), and I'm going to finish it, damn it.

Hellpistol progress. Still very much a WIP, I'll be getting my hands on it Thursday.

Then I'll be filling holes, faking rivets, fitting an Aquila and sourcing wood.
Just like with a mini, but far far bigger.

Haha, it would! I may well do that.

I'm hoping to get some very nice dark wood to work on, such as cocobolo, but finding it in any great quantity is very difficult in the UK.

had to look that type of woood up... but it seems it is often used for furniture...maybe there is a way then... cherry wood also has a nice dark hue too...may be an alternative and more readily accessible...

There is a reason they call them "Jewel" woods.

Oh many get through my thread Buttery, some , like Vik have been with it from the start, others do a few pages at a time.

I went off on one by about post five.

That said, I'm actually in danger of finishing something!
Got my vallejo water gel today, gonna get my Kelpie finished and get to use that cool stuff.

Didn't get much painting done today because I was making these instead.

The Grid is a local amazing gaming store meets create space, and one of the guys there wanted a personalised hoodie.

Excuse the phone pics.

I'm finishing the last few of these T&T Kickstarter dice bags:

(If you've just somehow worked out who I am from that, please don't share)

They were due over to Flying Buffalo a few months ago, but, well, I'm both terrible at organisation, and something very bad happened early in the year that... Well it's over now I think.

Well, today I went back to my tank.

Airbrushed it white a few weeks back.

There's a silly little modification fitted... Instead of a hole, there's an extremely powerful magnet in the tank hatch.

Which means I can do this...

I also magnetised Yorkie #2's butt, so I can do this...

It means that he won't snap off if I need to store the tank, and that I can pop his legless counterpart there when he inevitably gets killed on the battlefield, as decor. Also that I can fit other tank commanders if for some reason there's anyone wants to drive the fruitiest Leman Russ in existence.

Started testing the metallic blue and white scheme.

It's going to be white, blue and silver/gun-metal. It'll have sooty exhausts and muddy weathering powders, along with some scrapes and oil.
Then I'm going to fit rhinestones on the exterior, and paint Yorkie #2 to match his standing up counterpart.

Because nothing I ever do

ah... good to see some work on that tank!
love the addition of the commissar! magnetizing him

the metalic looks clean... i have the old citadel color of this hue... but i never really found a good use for it... it has too much finger nail polish feel to it... but if it works for you^^
but i like this bold painting scheme ... having a praetorian army myself this is probably a biased love for such schemes^^

also... as the pages and time made me almost forgot...
that kelpie looks awesome! really shows what a classy painter you are, the shading of white to blue is remarkably well!
besides, it is an awesome model!

cheers, vik

oh...and where are the rhiestones supposed to come into play with the leman russ?

Just a clear drum with some white painted as empty space, and the rest buttery goodness. His tank runs on butter

Thanks!

Vik, they're going on the sponsons, and in a sort of "collar" beneath the turret. They're square sky blue gems, I may chicken out and not use them if they sit badly.

This paint is "Miniature Paints" brand Steel Blue and it's a royal pain to use, it separates back to blue and silver in a heartbeat, and probably won't be the same shade when I come to the other side of the tank. It flows with a mind of its own... It also feels sticky when dry, I need to give it a varnish before I handle it much more.

Between blue plasma, blue rhinestones and blue paint, it's going to be a very sparkly vehicle. What can I say?
The rest of my army is going to be clean two-tone Mordian uniforms and the Tanith scouts, with one or two silly ideas like this making an appearance.

Some day I'm going to get it into one of the various painting contests at Warhammer World at an event and rustle some jimmies, I'm fairly sure. The devil in me can't resist.

(I want to actually put tank treads on a butter tub, and paint it up... But I also want to finish my army)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Before I forget, I also worked on the horse.

There's not been an astonishing amount of paint progress on this because I've been building up the "waves" behind her.
I keep forgetting to photograph before adding more water.

Here is how the water started after a day. I cut some old plastic from a blister packet, curved it and glued it to the sand. Then I built on it with Vallejo Water Texture, a little each day. As you can see it was not joined to the Kelpie.

Now I have slowly built it up:

And it goes across to form one "wave"

BTW I painted some blue onto the first layer and I still dislike it intensely. On my final layer I will add some white foam and hopefully that will be hidden.

This needs to set for the day before I add more, it is still milky.
