I use cloth shopping bags to carry 3 bins at a time. They have long handles so I can 12 bins at a time. With my backpack, I make only one trip to the store/venue. Yes, each bin is $13 and each shopping bag is $1.49. I don't have to dig for anything and as units are destroyed I put them back easily so no clean up after each game. This is not a transport system for plane travel, but I don't plan on taking a vacation with my minis.

So, I always pass on Battle foam and GW cases. They make transport too protective and they are really hard to use during the game.

If you play locally this is a great solution. If you ever travel on a plane with your army - not so much. I don't know that one solution (GW, KR, Tablewar, BF or home made) is particularly BETTER in general than any other solution. It really all depends on your needs. Each of those systems provide different approaches which may or may not suit your needs.

I have traveled with my 2500+ point armies multiple times with my KR cases and had no problems at all. The KR backpack 2 can store a lot AND fit in overhead bins for airplanes. I can only really speak from that experience. This has been done on multiple trips to the UK from California as well as to Chicago (for Adepticon) multiple times. On my last trip I actually just stored both my KR card cases in my checked bag and again, no problems.

Forget a plane, I feel like my army would be destroyed after rolling around in my car if stored in plastic bins like that

Just tried it out. I can fit 2500 points of Dark angels and space marines in the largest case, with space for templates, dice etc.

You can fit a 1500 point army in the small case as well, Seen it done.

cases are one of those things probably best left to making yourself, its easy, cheap, and often of better quality since the padding is made to support your specific models.

I got my Crusade case in the mail yesterday. I'm using mine primarily for storage, not carrying, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Pro: On the off-chance I can get my wife to actually play with me I have two small armies ready to go. No searching, no rummaging through boxes; it's right there, ready to go.

The 'serrated' storage systems is pretty handy. No more bending of long weapons or antennae.

Con: The moment I opened the case, one of the foam panels became unglued from its base. Not a big deal, can just glue it back, but still.

Also, the case is a pretty flimsy plastic.

Overall, would buy another!

I would call GW Customer Support. I would say that you fixed it, but paying a premium price you should be getting a premium product. See what Customer Support does then.

I posted this in another thread but...

I bought one for my Tyranids, a Crusade case to be exact.

To be completely honest, it's a lot smaller than I had originally thought it would be, though it is still slightly bigger than my old nid box. On the upside though, I haven't completely filled it yet (I've still got 2 completely empty trays and space in several others) and I've so far fit:

~200 gaunts (Horma and Terma)
6 Warriors
2 Zoanthropes
1 Malenthrope
2 Flyrants (with glued on wings)
a huge amount of Spore Mines
1 Carnifex
12 Rippers
1 Hive Crone

So yeah, the Crusade can fit A LOT. The foam's also very easy to modify and flexible.

Overall, I'm happy with it and it looks like it will do everything I need it to. I don't expect all of my big bugs to fit in it though.

I bought a battle case yesterday mostly for carrying vehicles. They are smaller than they look but for carrying light vehicles with big bases it's pretty damn good.

Here is a tray with 6 walkers, I could do this 4 times over (if I was mental enough to field 24 war walkers!)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/rnk88cbiyoxuzm2/DSC_1257.JPG?dl=0

I recon I could get like 36 dreadnoughts in it if I had that many too, 9 a tray.

I got to feth about with one this afternoon, and the store manager was showing me how they work pretty well with plastic infantry.
I said I was concerned by how metal figures would cope, and the response was to bring in my metal figures, put them in it and see what happened if I moved it up and down.

I might take 'em up on that before I paint them, be curious to see.

I'd put metal minis in so they sit toward the bottom of the case while it's being carried, but that's just me.

I was thinking of using cotton. I would line the box with cotton glued to the top, bottom and sides. then I can toss the models in and quick and pull them out and toss back the cotton that was ripped out back in. Should be great for light plastic models but not for pewter heavy models.

Which case were you looking at? Because I know at least the Crusade case has two foam covers that perfectly on the inside top to help pad the whole thing out.

I saw what should have been the battle case at my flgs yesterday, it was painfully small. Length, width, and depth all most have been shorter than 12", im sure the crusade cases could be decent, but the other two just wouldn't cut it

having made my own cases, and used various commercial grade cases - I can say that size can seem very deciving .

For all those that keep saying "I saw the box, and no way it would work...".

I would suggest actually putting minis in it. you will be very surprised how much it can hold.

(No, I am not calling anyone a liar - I am suggesting that actual experience in using a thing is far better than a guess on how using a thing will be).

If you can I would try and check one out in a store. It's hard to say and even if someone else has tested it I'm never confident in other peoples' opinions when it comes to how safely models are packed. Some of my friends are totally fine if they "only" lose 1 spear each time they transport their models, where as my standard is that at no point in time do I want to lose anything

For €100 you can get 6x 10cm high pluck foam "monster" trays at Feldherr and then a big ass storage box made out of cardboard to hold these six trays as well. Each of these trays has bigger dimensions than the trays the GW cases offer, so can hold more stuff...something like 4 marine sized tanks with a little room to spare.

However, one of their carrying bags already costs like €30 and can only hold 1 of those 10cm trays and then either another 6cm tray or 2 troop trays, the total cost of such a kit is about 50 Euros so you get 2 of them for €100, meaning you can hold about 36 x 4 = 144 troops and about 8 tanks, which is roughly the capabity of the Crusader size GW carrying case, except for the same money you get hard plastic from GW.

I had a look in the store today to see the new cases. I'm still undecided. They do look very small in person compared to how they look online, but the zigzag style foam is much more space efficient than pluck foam or that foam with the little compartments. You can pack the models a lot closer together in it.

But it did feel a bit flimsier than I'd like. I want something where one model will never touch another model, I'm not convinced the GW cases will do that.

Still, I'm tempted, I have a bunch of inefficiently packed models sitting around my room that I'd love to store away efficiently in a case like this, I'm just not sure I can trust it. I would have felt a lot happier if GW had of left in the bits that were cut out to create the zigzag (so if you didn't fully fill a tray the models would still be held in firmly).

I got a Battle case last friday, specifically to carry my Dreamforge-clad SoB. I did a variation of the set-up they show in the video for the rhinos/immolatorsm I offset them from layer to layer. Aside from the vehicles, I could fit all 60 of my girls in 2 trays of foam and a bit of the third. I'll probably be able to carry my inquisitorial retinues.

I've seen all three sizes of these now - new on the shelf, not loaded up with models. One thing is for certain, much like everyone has already said, they are a lot smaller than what GW's pictures lead you to believe.

The foam is extremely soft. So soft that it's virtually impossible for them to support heavy models. I cannot see them working with metal models at all.

They are still not very good for carting around multiple vehicles such as tanks, especially large ones.

I want to like them, but I'm still not convinced. We've read a few accounts/reviews, but we're still not seeing many detailed pictures or videos showing 'how' things are being packed in them.

I think this mostly comes down to making sure the trays are full. If you don't fill the trays the foam is too flexible so won't support the model all by itself.

Just a quick one for those with concerns over metal models.

If these cases are suitable for metal models, its probably by default not design.

GW doesn'tmake metal models anymore and doesn't acknowledge the wider wargaming world so its probable that metal wasn't part of the design brief.

Put it this way, I won't be putting my 2nd Ed IG models in one. Dependant on how much I spend on Skitarii/ Mechanicus I might invest in one.

I don't own any Knights myself, so I'm just going off of what I know from my other models. You could probably fit 4 knights in the Battle Box. I can fit 4 Trygons in a Battle Box without a problem. Fitting an adamantine Lance should be doable but perhaps a little tricky, IMO.

It's a great case for infantry. It's subpar for vehicles. Thank Chtulhu I only have 4 rhino-sized hulls in it.
