This was a very good release from a model/rules perspective.

The fluff was, however, sub-par. Usually they have excellent fluff and this was a little bland.

It seemed a little light in the fluff department. I think this book was more about game content then story, as it was a bit of an end to the Thornwood Arc. Perhaps that means a lot more work is going into the next Hordes expansion/WM book?

Or maybe it's just a side effect of a new Mercs Contract (Cephalyx) coming into existence in this book.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Fluff was definitely pretty 'Meh".

But hey, I finally got the Paladin warcaster I've always wanted.

For Menoth, they definitely "won" the Reckoning release cycle. Every model but the Purifier is an A level model with the Hand Of Judgment being S-Tier (to use that system) to the point he's possibly the best character 'Jack to see release since Apotheosis (Avatar, Deathjack, Thunderhead, and Behemoth).

He's that good.

Hmm. I'm not sure the Protectorate "won" the Reckoning release cycle.

All the Warcasters are pretty good, with maybe Denny3 being at the bottom, but 3Haley is at the top.
I actually really liked the Purifier, but there is no denying that Hand of Judgement is a good warjack, but Dynamo isn't too shabby either. I'm thinking Victor "won" the second round of the colossal race. The solos are all great in this book.

All the factions got something they could use, and it was a good book overall.

I think the Revelator is right up there with Viktor. In terms of upgrade from the original then Viktor is the easy winner (but Conquest was so bad any decent Jack would be a major improvement).

As a Menoth player, we definitely made out like bandits with some amazing amazing stuff that I'm super stoked about. At the same time all the other factions got stuff that was really cool as well, so I wouldn't say we definitively won the book, but it would be a near run thing.

Looking for a club in Brisbane, Australia? Come and enjoy a game and a beer at Pubhammer, our friendly club in a pub at the Junction pub in Annerley (opposite Ace Comics), Sunday nights from 6:30. Yup. And frankly we deserved a good release cycle. I think we deserve another to make up for the generally crappy releases we've gotten over the last 5 years, relative to other factions.

Anson Durst, the apology for Reznik2.

Pretty much everything that a lot of the long term PoM players had been asking for. Both fluff and capability wise.

He's right around where most warcasters should be, too, IMO. He's on the cusp of OP, but not really there. I can look at him and go 'add this, this, or that' and he'd be broken and ridiculous, but he's not. Excellent job of balancing, IMO. He also fills a niche we did not have taken -- a warcaster that stops the assassination run while also grinding zones for scenario. I've had so many opponents use assassination as an escape hatch to get away from the PoM attrition game due to our squishy support based casters, it's silly. And, frankly, there's a TON of Retribution players in my area -- I am sick of only being able to play Feora2 (though she's great).

OTOH, Hand of Judgment is just full on S-Tier level. Easily one of the best designed and most synergistic character 'Jacks I've seen. Feora2 is going to be a terror against any non-Fire Immune army list with him.

Revelator feels like a direct upgrade to the Judicator. It's got utility that fits in a lot of lists, very powerful shooting (and it synergizes with HoJ), and is still just a good all around Colossal. Judicator now feels like what you'd take if you need additional anti-Infantry support. Revelator will likely be replacing Judi in my Feora 2 list, and HoJ will sub in for a Reckoner (ran 2 + Judi).

Even Pyrrhus is like an upgrade to the standard Paladin of the Wall solo with this ability to avoid damage and dish it out.

As much of the other stuff gets played, I'm hearing a fairly hefty cry of "Meh" from the other factions. Both Denny and Haley 3 are getting pooh-poohed a ton as "not good enough to bother getting to replace any of their predecessors or other faction warcasters" (they're good, imo, just both factions have better and aren't bothering). Victor is an honest to god upgrade for Khador, so I'm happy for them, and Ruin is nearly as good as HoJ.

Nah, the Revelator hasn't usurped the Judicator. They do different things.

The Judicator is still better at being focus efficient and killing massed infantry.

The Revelator is better at killing stealth models, shooting heavies off the table, and area denial.

I think they were also quite clever at ensuring that Feora2s bond still works on the Revelator. I think this might see the Revelator replace the Judicator in her lists, but other casters will still use the Judicator. Of course, the Judicator will still be better at setting more models on fire with the bond.

Those 4" templates (especially with continuous fire from Feora2) and the psuedo-Scather templates they drop on hit will be murderous to a lot of infantry and will boost the anti-infantry abilities substantially. Losing the Inaccurate trait will help.

I think either will be able to do a good job with Feora2. I think Kreoss1 will still love Judicator dearly. Tristan with a Judicator will still be a good use of 21 points (especially in a Harbinger list where she can Martyr Tristan). Severius1 will still get good work from either (he just makes everything better).

Don't forget the upcoming trick of hiding the Hand of Judgment in those psuedo-Scathers. Put one down in the middle of some infantry and then have HoJ use its flame thrower to clear up any survivors or fire past the (now dead) line of tarpit into the back ranks. It's immune to the damage and anyone entering the template takes a POW 14 fire damage roll due to suffering HoJ's bonus damage. This will let HoJ operate forward while protecting it from any non-reach infantry (like, oh, banes).

Severius2 with the Revelator will be a serious ranged assassination threat versus everyone and will cause some real problems for those facing him until the meta adjusts. It's like Ravyn's Snipe-Feat-Go, but he can do it every turn once in range, and instead of using pinpricks from MHSF, he's using a sledgehammer. That's just my opinion, though.

Indeed. Although one is a denial while the other is better at straight up killing.

I just love the fact that one of my old favorites, Severius1 (and soon 2), is coming back heavily into the meta while Harbinger kinda fades. I never liked Harby's model nor her abilities. Just me, I guess. I'm weird.

Durst/Severius1 will likely be my tourney pairing for a while. Durst has already been successful at cracking the Retribution puzzle I so often had issues with. It doesn't help that there are lots of very good, very experienced Retribution players in the Dallas meta. Around these parts you really need an answer to Retribution and Circle. Legion is slightly below that in likely opponents followed by Cryx and Cygnar as distant outliers. Rest is rather random.

Durst should be able to handle the Ret, Legion, and Circle matchups. Severius takes on the other Warmachine factions, especially Cryx.

Yes you are weird. But Harbinger is a tough caster to use properly. Took me years to become competent with her.

She's definitely got a knife's edge she has to balance on.

She's what I'd like to consider 'low floor, (really) high ceiling'. Easy to kill yourself on Martyrs or to get yourself shot off the board. Once you know what you're doing, is the monster that everyone kvetches about when facing PoM. I've watched battle reports where top players just completely lock down the board with her with a combination of good list creation, ballsiness, and capitalizing on even the tiniest opponent error.

And I've watched people lose her turn 3 to eGrissel's shooting.

That and the model is just a pain in the ass. Been sitting in a box in my closet for, literally, 3 years. Every time I start trying to assemble her, I get partway through the dry fit and I'm like 'screw it' and back it goes into the box. OTOH, Kreoss3 is nearly finished assembly, so he'll be my one large based caster, I think.

You are a wiser man than I, then.

I'm not in a hurry, though. I have a stable of: Severius1, Kreoss1 (both been running since Mark 1 prime), Feora2, Reznik1, Durst (just added), and soon Kreoss3. I think that's enough and covers most of my bases. I might add Severius2 in the future, especially if Revelator comes out anytime in the next year.

I get along pretty well without her and it's kind of a surprise to most folks to not have her on the board against them. I'm honestly amazed at how few people seem to know what Severius1 does, considering he's been around for 11 years.

"Wait, your warcaster has spell ward?" "Yeeeeeeeeeees. That's why I showed you the card earlier." has happened more than once.
