PLEASE NOTE: THE PICTURES ARE HIGH QUALITY AND LOOK SLIGHTLY PIXELATED UNLESS YOU CLICK ON THEM TO VIEW THEM FULLSIZE

As promised here are the minotaur pics, very pleased with them. Need to get some gold to finish their details as had to mix silver with yellow instead - never works!

Also block coloured the 12 skaven in about 2.30 hrs which I was pleased with as I dreaded the thought of painting them - hence the simple colour scheme which will be washed and then have some layered details added. Waiting on the agrax earthshade wash to arrive now.

Next I'll touch up mockingbirduk's slayers before going onto the greenskins. The 10 chaos warriors can be done rapid as they're all metal armour with little detail - thinking of going for a nice bronze. Again waiting on the gold.

This is going to be the world's nicest-looking WHQ set ever! Glad the little fellas arrived intact.

What are those (15mm?) spec-ops looking chaps behind the skaven from?

Haha cheers I haven't started any new hobby ventures in years so its probably the most maturely finished, most OCD project I've worked on! The 15mm were going in the Works for about £2, they're Italeri or similar, modern German spec ops I think. Never really did them though despite buying bases for them :/ I used your Trollslayer in a game today, report coming...

Good to hear a fellow clear-base user, they do look fantastic and I'm getting all 100 odd for the whole set and more on Monday. What are you planning on using them with?

Had a big session today - 4 players including gozmonster. Really, you're gonna need at least 4 warriors to have a fair game because you may not even survive with even that lot.

The first dungeon was cleared - using the new Trollslayer (a tough bastard with a beastly axe), the Dwarf Warrior, the Barbarian, and the Wizard. It wasn't too tricky but we still had to heal several times.

Fortunately we completed the objective, and hence used the RPG element for the first time seen in the Roleplay book. It was pretty good actually - we ventured to a nearby town where we drunk, bought, prayed, and fought through roughly a week. You got a real sense of 'coming up out from the surface' into the daylight, and a lot of funny random events can happen whilst adventuring outside of the dungeons.

Unfortunately, we encountered 3 Chaos warriors (made a custom card for) who were basically heavy grunts, and two Minotaurs at once. They killed the two dwarfs but the other warriors fought on with only two last goblins to kill before they died! If they survived the Dwarfs' souls would've been resurrected, but alas. As a result, we'll be starting from scratch next game - true to the nature of Warhammer Quest.

Back with more juicy pics after lying low (painting models). I'm really impressed with the pace I've painted these at - the whole base set is now completed apart from 12 orcs, 12 skaven, and 10 additional chaos warriors who are block-coated but I'm waiting to use some wash on them when it arrives. In short the whole set is painted at least to an extent plus extras.

All the clear bases arrived and I've based up all the minis that are complete bar the bats which I need to get my drill for. They look great - a bit less intricate-looking than normal painted bases but very neat and modern.

I've painted the 6 goblin spearmen fully and spiced up mockingbirduk's trollslayer a bit. I've put in all the base colours on the orcs, skaven, and chaos which is good as I was dreading painting the big hordes.

I'll soon be able to paint extra minis to go in the set which will tie in nicley for time as I'm soon getting some Games Workshop/Otherworld undead to expand the set!

I'm working on my Tau Cadre. Whole army will be based clear. My order was 55pcs of 25mm, 10pcs of 30mm, 25pcs of 55mm and then 5pcs of 120x92mm OVAL (made per order) should suffice all my minis, unless GW releases that Tau update next week.
xD

Geezus, this is one hell-of-a-board game. I got myself a Assassinorum, Execution Force (not very happy with the paintjob I ordered ), but I want to get some more Chaos Minis, maybe some third party stuff and to actually build a whole board, like a full on set piece.

Nice StarDrop sounds cool, I see you have made an article on here about clear bases so I added some of my pics to the end of it if you don't mind? Cheers

Cheers Bottle I'm really pleased myself with both the speed at which i've done it and the level of finish. The Dettol sure does the trick well, got some zombies going in it at the mo.

More joys! 5 unarmoured skeletons - probably my favourite models yet, and the 6 orc archers. The Games Workshop newer models, as complex as they can be, do look lovely on a circle base as long as they haven't been sculpted to look like giant cartoon action figures as is the trend in their past few years' releases. the skeletons were particularly characterful with some great decay to their bodies, weaponry, and armour. Such individual models work well with game such as Quest where you don't need to worry about ranking up or big batches so can have fun with poses.

I purchased some of the Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition books around four years ago and was impressed by the fantastic range of creatures of all shapes and sizes, so I'm hoping to bring this to a more orderly miniatures game - Warhammer Quest. What i'm enjoying is that you write the rules - there's no universal way to play quest, so because its a party game you can add whatever cards, board sections, and models you want, in any quantity. There's no need to go buying 20 rats that would be a chore to paint, and you can include even the odd model lying around you've never had a previous use for. There's no restriction to army lists, race, or manufacturer either.

Vallejo grey primer - stops your metal models chipping and helps paint stick. Also helps to apply bright/light coloured paints as a basecoat. Because it's runny it allows for rapid coverage yet does the job with a thin coat

More minis done - the whole base Warhammer Quest game is now fully painted! Branching out with more minis now as I've already been doing.

The minotaur bases turned out to be rather large and took up a lot of board space, so I ordered in a new 43mm base to bridge the gap between the 30mm and 55mm. As you can see I've now reserved the big 55mms for the largest creatures such as the cockatrices and big oozes.

Ive also got some more glass cut to improve my Ikea cabinet that I've fitted lighting for, so I can now display the quest minis.

Been a few months now since I last touched any Quest stuff - not due to a lack of interest but I had a space marines commission to do and then I started painting a few Star Wars miniatures to coincide with the hype. Got two micromachines tie fighters to paint then I'm back on this job! In the meantime here's two pieces I painted alongside the commission November time. The Water Wierd is from Otherworld Miniatures, and the Scorpion swarm was made from a metal tile base-cover from Otherworld I had spare, cut open with scorpions sculpted in the space. I don't do much sculpting at all but I reckon I'd be alright at it!

I cut a circle out of the perspex base cover then sculpted the scorpions straight onto it. This mean the edge of the base would be protected from paint

Is the centre of the water weird interchangable, or is it two separate miniatures?

Yeah the water weird is interchangeable, very cool although the clear resin did come a bit frosted.

Great paint jobs! Have to echo the comments about the bases "looking" excellent in clear plastic.

I need to remember to paint up my own WHQ and HQ sets (along with the million other models I have to paint... ).

Excellent work! I love seeing another Quest fan working on their collection. I love the clear bases as well...and I'm torn now, as I've already based tons of mine on squares so that I can still play Warhammer Fantasy Battles with them. But, as you know, GW blew up the Old World and WHFB (Which I'm still upset about), and I have no interest in playing Age of Sigmarines...

My dilemma now is whether I want to keep them on squares so I can go back and play 8th edition WHFB, or if I want to make them look super pretty like yours...I even have a bunch or daemons that I've assembled, but haven't glued down to bases because of my failure to commit and make a decision...any advice?!

Hi Fango have you got any pics of your set about? Tbh the clear bases suit the boardgame style of quest because you can see the tiles through them, but otherwise do mean the model looses an overall appearance of fine detail. They look nice and clean but they make the model seem more 'toy-like' i suppose as there is nothing to scale the model against on the base. Hard to explain!

I do plan on playing a fantasy game with mine ranked up loosely like the old editions of fantasy battles that had random monsters all forming an army, so thats a good idea too. If I were you then I would say round bases is a better bet because even still you can rank up the minis loosely, but I wouldn't necessarily say clear plastic is all a good thing.

No pics floating about yet, I should put some up...really mine is more of a collection...not much of it is painted yet - beyond base coats and a bit of a wash on some. I started (years back) to collect all the minis that show up in the random monster tables that appear in the Roleplay book that came with the main box...plus the monster tables in the Orc and Undead expansions. I've been using the updated/most current versions of most models (ie. skull pass night goblins vs the ones that came with the Quest game, Multi-part plastic minotaurs vs the mono-pose ones, etc), as I do like how the look has evolved over the years. I have a few glaring holes in my collection yet, mainly chaos dwarves, some of the dark elves and some chaos stuff. Many things I've been waiting for models to get updates (like the greater daemons, though I havent picked up the new Khorne one yet) as I don't like the older ones. I should take an inventory and get some photos up of where my collection stands soon...

Fair enough sounds cool, there's no doubt models are much better nowdays, for me quest was all about simplifying things back to the roots with a whole new boxed game to explore, but I wouldn't even begin to argue the old models are good in anyway :') You must have a fair few then, rather than collect what's on the tables I've just been collecting whatever minis I like and adding cards for them.
