I'm a WHFB dawi player as well and there are dwarves in WM. They're the "Seaforge commision" also called "Rhulic". However they are a mercenary faction and I cannot recommend them as a starter, you'll enjoy Menoth.

However I do have one major malfunction when it comes to them

A dwarf without a beard is no dwarf at all!

None of the races in Iron Kingdom really fall into traditional fantasy stereotypes. Why would you expect dwarves to?

And I don't think there is anything to say Rhulic Dwarves have no beards. They just seem as likely or unlikely as a human and appear to grow beards in a more human fashion.

Don't forget Brun, it may not be a full beard, but he does in fact have a beard.

I know it's just as a dwarf player in WHFB a dwarf with no beard or a shaving a dwarf is considered an extreme dishonour. I mean The high elves shaved the beards of some dwarf emissaries and killed them. Had they just killed them there could have been peace (unlikely) but the dwarfs said shaving their beards was an unforgivable offense. This lead to the braining of the phoenix king.

It's just so ingrained in me that dwarfs have beards and not only do they have them, but the bigger & fuller the beard the older & more respectable a dwarf is. I mean their veterans are called long beards. It's hard for me to get over.

Sounds like you need some variety then.

I don't think you realize just how stubborn a dwarf (player) can be

If I ever played a rhulic unit (unlikely) I would have to custom sculpt a long and glorious beard onto each and every one.

I've recently started in Warmachine thanks to a friend buying me the 2 player starter set (Khador and Menoth). It comes with a condensed rulebook (no fluff) and two starter "armies".

I was hooked instantly and after reading up decided that Khador was my faction. I was also bought the token set and template set and as I have plenty of dice and a measure already I'm good to go.

BUT...

The OCD fluff monster in me came out and I just had to purchase the full rulebook PRIME: MKII and the Khador faction book so I could read up on the background. I also bought the Iron Kingdoms novel In Thunder Forged.

Other than investing in the P3 line of paints that was everything I have so far to get started. Not making any more purchases until I have my models all painted and played some games to get a feel for the system and how the models interact with each other.

So my suggested list for Getting Started is:

1. Two player box set
2. Token set for the factions
3. Template set
4. Main rulebook
5. Faction book of choice

Depending on your FLGS or online retailer of choice (mine is Element Games as no local game store that sells Warmachine) this should cost around: £138 if you were to buy it all at once. To be fair you could just get 1, 2 and 3 for about £90

Like a lot of other people have said: take it slow and steady. Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for all the pointers (I didn't want to interrupt you guys lol lots of good advice were flowing)

Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Do you have a general playstyle you like to use?

Well im not sure about this game but in others im not great with fragile or finicky units. I usually like to play survivability. I like to know my units can take a hit and keep going, allows me to widdle down my opponent without worrying too much that one wrong turn would have me losing units.

Well, in WHM a wrong turn will lose you the game. Its very much an unforgiving game, even at high levels.

That said, you sound like you like attrition. Thats straight up the PoM's alley. Especially with our newest warcaster.

I would get the battlebox, which gets you pKreoss. Cut your teeth with that. Then afterwards, buy 1 of each heavy kit(magnetize), a unit of choir, get a unit of Errants with their UA, a Redeemer light warjack, the Covenant of Menoth, Rhupert Carvolo(mercenary solo), and 2 vassals. This will get you started with the protectorate's basics and you can fan out from there.

Or if you can find one, get the PoM all in one box.
