Right adepts,
A lot of time and not any updates here. The Pictorium department has been at work in the metal areas, and after basecoating, washing, two layers of drybrushing and a second diluted wash, behold the results:
And a nice closeup:
Next planned steps, inside of the robes and bronze areas.
And yes, all the heads are missing, those will soon receive some attention as well
End of communicatum

It takes some time to get used. I still fail sometimes. The only downside is that you need to imagine a lot how things will look once you put the bitz together

By the will of Omnissiah and the powers of arcane artefacts, mighty adepts of the Mechanicus have reinfused this thread with life!
tl:dr – thou shalt rise from the dead
Sadly no pics to go after such a long break. I have started to work on the beige bitz of cloth, ruined a cloak and spend an hour to redo to a fairly ignorable level…
Next thing to do is to basecoat, wash and highlight the heads, highlight and wash the cloth, and start blocking out bronze pieces.
Aaaaaaand a new member joins my - up until now single member - family of airbrushes, please welcome a nice Badger Krome !
The next weekends should be busy but hopefully I’ll have time over the week.

Hello (again) everyone !
Yes, yes, believe it or not, this is still ongoing. Had a long break after compressor died (awaiting a Neo Air now due to space and noise restrictions) and moved house as well, taking a large dent in our budget with furnishing etc.
Well, I’m happy to say all is good now, I got a solid wood board to stand on top of the livingroom table so I won’t damage that one with my paints etc and I’m back in business!
Sadly the light in the pics below isn’t ideal, I will soon get a desk led lamp to help with that – however, for those of your who are curious, the process of painting the legs and bodies below was a heavy drybrush very close to Awaken Realms’ own video on Youtube, and I hope they won’t get angry with me if I mimic a few more things – albeit at a much lower quality…
A bit of more work went into a communications tower, no WIP pics on that one but will show the complete one soon!
It’s just a very basic mix of metal, brass and corrosion so nothing extra outstanding. Not sure if I’ll use it on the overall display board or just as marker

As promised, the comms tower pictures.
As you can see, the tower itself is not glued to the base, but kept in place by magnets, so it can rotate and can be taken off and used elsewhere.
A bit of black added to various parts of the walkers, and all the still grey parts that could be seen in above image are now painted in metal or black.
Still got two main bodies to block, then I can start airbrushing the red onto them.
Updates to follow as soon as possible, but work keeps me away from my improvised bench :(

Sweet Omnissiah! I got to the bottom of the pit and now just quoting myself!
Yes, you guessed it, nearly 3 years later, this is still in play. In the meanwhile we actually bought our first home, so yeah...been busy painting walls instead of minifigures.
And rediscovered the joy of LEGO so now i'm down the rabbit hole.
Anyway, as a quick update, i felt like gluing rather than painting to get a chance to test the small table setup i now have.
Which means i went ahead and prepared all 4 Kastelan Robots for basing.
Some of you might recall (I doubt!) i planned on using some alternate heads. In the end i will use 2 normal, 2 alternate. However, one of the normal one now has a fancy crack to show the alternate one through it!
More pics to follow!

Just a really quick update to show the broken Kastelan head.
All parts are now primed and i’ll start painting the metallic area first, same as on the Ironstriders.
So a blatant copy of the 3 layer drybrushing Awaken Realms did

Returning customers!
Thanks dude
A bit more work was done. I managed to drybrush and wash all the metallics.
I then remembered i had a bottle of the dreaded Vallejo liquid mask so i thought i should just mask out the metals and airbrush the reds.
Did about half of the bits, out of fear of leaving the rubber too long and it’s already been a few days on some parts, so fingers crossed it won’t come out with the paint underneath. If it breaks the layers, i might just recoat all in black but I honestly don’t feel like putting in so much work again.
Here’s a few stages of the process.
