Bitten by the Heresy bug as well I see. If you're a sucker, so am I.

Your terminators look fantastic, the blue is really good, I like the worn look you've given them.

What problems are you having with painting bronze vehicles and pooling?

Hey Noodles, good to hear from you. As for the bronze and pooling, I am using the wrong technique for vehicles. A brush wash can't be the best way to go. Thing is that is the only way I can work out a flat bronze. Still experimenting with colors.

A small update with theSicaran and second jet bike....

nice job with the sicaran so far! Do you prime white or just lots of thinned layers of white? Because it is looking good so far

Hmm, you could be trying to paint too much too quickly, I admit I had trouble with washes on large areas, my fix was to stop using them.

There are a few things you could try, look at some sort of flow aid or anything to lower the surface tension, you could also try a hair-dryer to accelerate the drying process. Maybe Doing one panel, or side or whatever, at a time as well, to limit the amount of pooling and you might be able to keep surfaces more horizontal.

Get some scraps of plasticard or whatever and try things out.

Ustrelo- i used a thin coat of grey followed by a bunch of thinned down pallid wych flesh for the white, or actually an off white.

Noodles- too much too quickly is usually how my projects go. I could probably paint a lot better if I could ever maintain army discipline. I hear your point though. I've tried your advice and even if the pooling is solved, streaks appear. I'm just gonna have to figure out something entirely different. I've been surfing YouTube for painting tips.

In the meantime, Sicaran finished.

That is an awesome piece of armour!

As for the Minos brass/bronze, one theory I've just had is to basecoat as normal, Sepia or Agrax wash applied all over but not in great quantity (more a glaze than a wash, you just want to tint the surface), then applied again directly into the recesses, then drybrush the original metallic colour over the top of the panels and edges. You'd need to experiment, that's just a shot in the dark, but it could give you a nice worn metal look.

Lovely tank. You don’t see much white on UM vehicles, works nice as an accent color. Makes me think of weathering though, 5 seconds in the field and there is going to be muck everywhere.

Thanks gents, I appreciate the comments and advice. I gotta figure a way to take better pics. My iphone is a 6 and it has a great camera, but the pics spin on Dakka. Ill try some more pics of the tank, the white is washed out a bit. Ive also finished up 5 more Legionaries. Soon as Im done with the second squad Im gonna start on the more interesting infantry.

Very nice FSU! I almost want to get one myself, but luckily for me I already put in my forgeworld order so I don't have to worry about that

That Sicaran looks lovely in the final photo. The white is very nice. I normally use a grey-white, but I think I will try your way with the pallid wych flesh on my next army. When you say it was thinned down, I assume you mean water, not white?

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Thanks guys, glad you like it. The first pics were a wash out. Fifty, I used administratum grey (I think thats its name) followed by a bunch of watered down palid flesh. i think 4 or 5 coats.

And here is this guy. I like him a lot more than I thought. Since I bought 2 BaC sets, I have an extra. Also an extra chaplain. Gonna try to convert them. Anyway....

Very cool! I am making my chaplain into a jump pack chaplain (I got an extra dark fury jump pack on ebay) to go with my dark furies for large point games. They are super fun to convert up.

Awesome stuff. Can't help but feel the cape needs some white on it, though, either an Ultra symbol or some edging or something.

Thanks gents, I am considering something on the cape. But not decided, I kinda like the blank black cape.

So, not much of an update. Finished the last bike and some more ultras almost done. Mostly I just want to see if I have figured out the rotated pics.

Hmmm. Maybe it works now.

Yeah the pictures work now, and the jet bike is looking good! How do you shade the paneling for the white? Do you use a blue or black?

I just used black. Nuln Oil actually. I used it to outline everything.

Speaking of which, 5 more legionaries. I should probably paint there guys some guns. May come in handy.

So my plan tonight was simply to base the last 5 Tactical guys, wait, Legion Tactical guys, and assemble the pilots of the jet bikes. And the Chaplain ended up happening.

Very nice FSU, I can't wait to start my BaC box set myself. I really like that transfer on his chest, does that come with the box?

Looks good! All I'd do is maybe a very thin black wash over the transfer, it's really sticking out at the moment (which might be what you were going for).

Great paint job on a nice mini!

Your color choices are starting to confuse me. In the first post of this thread, the sarge has a red/white plume/crest thing on his helm. Pretty normal there. Might just be my personal bias as a 3rd company guy, but red and white are natural accent colors for Ultras to me.

Then the black cape on the terminator. That’s something you don’t see every day. Looks good on him, but black is a rarity in UM paintjobs. It’s the accent color of the 5th battle company, but I can’t say I’ve ever seen it used. And this is 30k, so things can be different.

Then the chaplain here. Ok, black cape again. Rockin’ it in a menacing style, all’s good. But where did the green crest come from? I mean, it looks great, well executed, works for the mini. But I was expecting red and/or white to fit in with the rest of the army. Do you have plans on including more green? From a 40k POV it’s the 4th company’s color, and I’ve seen an army done with it. Not sure if it signifies something else in 30k.

Characters often march to their own beat, keeps them separate from the rank and file. Just curious with the though process that ended up green.

(Not to sound critical, just curious. I really like the guy, he just don’t seem to fit with the rest of the force)

Ustrello- it does comes with the set. Kind of a beating, not enough transfers for 30 marines. Still a good sheet though.

Paradigm- I kinda like how the transfer sticks out. I do plan on doing something for the transfers. Especially on the Sicaran, the excess film really shows.

Nevelon- I was wondering if anyone would notice. The red and white will be squad leaders. All capes will be black, just cause I like black capes. The plumes on the character models will each be different. Kind of a color of their office. If I make another chapalin, he will be green, but no one else will have green. No specific reason why. Just figured what the hell.

Looking excellent. I especially like how you've done the Sicaran. the use of white for the turret is spot on.

Ok, got the bikes finished. I switched the champions head because I figure he is a HQ guy, but not really a leader guy. Still need to go back and finish his sword. I saw GW has a tutorial on making blades look cool. Figure I will check it out. I really like the guy with the communications gear. Can't remember his name but he is cool.

I am liking the head swap it makes him look more like just a normal champion.

Actually a question about the model for the champion (if you remember). Does the hand holding the sword have the hilt and pommel intact on it or is that gone to make a connecting point for the other hand? I am planning on a conversion involving that model and I want to know how big of a headache I will have in the future.
