I enjoy reading on Warseer, there are several well informed posters (like Hastings, Reinholt) on specific topics like rumors, GW economy, the Chapterhouse trial, skipped GW projects and Black Library books for example and the painting blog section is a treasure trove.

Not sure if it is factual correct but they seem to have a large portion of UK-based users and are often the first with news and photos from fw, gw and bl events. Personally I like reading posts from people in the know and that's why I choose forums (and blogs like Realmofchaos80s) who actually come up with something informative and helpful.

Lately I skip most of the poison spitting on forums as I have no interest in that emotional discharging use of the internet - except if it contains proper information and/or warnings. The finecast dilemma in 2011 - the openess about how bad the material actually is posted here and on Warseer saved me quite some money (and lots of nerves). These semi-professional tabletop news blogs were not offering critical reviews of that product line for a long time. I'm on par with Hastings and others who still openly call it the lowpoint of GW.

Well BOLS. There is a user on their forums, YorkNecromancer, whose threads I enjoy reading. They are long, walls of text, but always bring on some interesting points and are worth the time reading. He delivers his thoughts in a way of writing that is both funny and well-pointed. I agree with him 60/40 but like how he makes me think about stuff from other perspectives. His points were food for thoughts in my gaming club several times, leading to good discussions. Bols should put him onto the front page. I think the topics on wargaming forums are taken well to seriously in general and end in black-and-white conversations powered by infuriation. BOLS is basically advertising TT products - from a wide range of manufacturers to be fair.

I wish Warseer the best and hope the team brings the site back online. They would be a loss for sure. Not perfect but still a good place to get GW-related news.

The GW General board. One of the good parts of Warseer, where you might find some reasoned (or at least different) appraisals of GW's business and other practises, often by people who actually know something about business and public relations. Looked down on from the 40K and WFB boards as the bit of Warseer where all the GW haturz congregate.

I kinda miss Reinholt's orange text, and the things he said with it; but you can get pretty much the same here, without the risk of Wintermute getting bored and deciding to banhammer people who don't happen to like 40K.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

BOLS is the only place where I look at the name of an article's author before its title, just so that I don't waste my time on worthless clickbait. Alas this means that currently I nearly never read any of their articles.

A typical BOLS article goes that way:

BEHOLD THE GLORY OF OUR BREAKING NEWS:

- We heard for a anonymous super trusty inside source that there will be a new codex for an existing faction
- Codex will include lot of words and pictures
- It will be printed on paper
- Paper may come form a tree, is it a hint at new Wood Elves releases?

Stay tuned as that article will now be repeated every day for a week with a different name each time!

Due to my other main interest stuff like this is old hat. All the dirtsheets operate like that.

If you break apart my or anyone else's posts line by line I will not read them.

I laughed way too hard at this. Forum rivalries are so much fun.

In addition, BoLS have, in very poor form, registered dakkadakka.org and warseer.org and redirects them to the BoLS front page.

Didn't know about that, and trying it out for myself it's obviously true. Quite a scummy move, imo.

Halandri

There was a thread asking if Primarchs had girlfriends and I got a warning for suggesting they might like ogryn girls for their physiques.

I got another warning for using the word douche, not aimed at anyone in particular.

Never accrued enough points in a year to be banned (yet... with the site down, maybe I've won! )

Please don't ban me dakka.

A lot of bans I saw were from newer posters that didn't know how to communicate without being insulting or from old posters who just finally lost their ship with someone. The lead up to some bannings were quite entertaining.

Our mods are not fascists whom suppress free speech and ban people for stepping an iota out of line, they are benevolent overseers who truly are paragons of good will and all those other nice things.

Dakka Dakka is love, those who say otherwise are big fat liars and enemies of us all.

That was just amazing in so many ways.

Quoted for truth. I miss Reinholt's posts too. As far as I'm concerned, the GW General board was the only place where you could have a civil debate regarding anything related to GW. The 40k board? Just dropping around there to suggest anyone a non-GW miniature as an alternative could award you a bunch of less than 'amicable' responses.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

Canterbury

As if.

Our uniforms are much nicer than that, and our daysticks -- as well as the obligatory titanium core -- are hinged so they really wrap round the target when we connect.

Me learned friends suggest server issues for Warseer, which even as you cower beneath our nigh-on apocalyptic wrath read are being worked on, and should -- assuming the machine spirits are suitably appeased -- see the site back in operation this weekend.

As this clears this up we're done now, t'would seem that, much like Amber Roses' fingers we don't need to delve any deeper here.
