$50 just for non awful turtle sculpts?! I hope that pledge level gets more than that ...like a 28mm scale turtle wagon mini!

Comic guys are nice, but put out minis of characters i give 2 gaks about already. I'd rather have varied foot clan sculpts than 'thug with gun'

That's pretty much it. Eastman is working closely with the project (the box, for one thing), while Skybox and Kirkland, afaik, aren't. As the KS home page says, "Designed by the legendary Kevin Wilson (Descent, Arkham Horror) with input from Kevin Eastman and IDW's entire TMNT creative team." The game is based on the IDW reboot of the TMNT franchise. Again, as the KS home page says, "The game is based off of IDW's ongoing comic book universe and features missions taken straight from some of the series' biggest moments." Suggestion: Read the KS home page.

IDW has two TMNT hardback collections backers have recommended. Someone post the links because my connection is

Holy crap. This is the first (and possibly only) kickstarter I will ever invest into. TNMT were the first thing I was ever really in to as a child, so my nostalgia just got hit really hard when I saw this.

Sorta makes sense. A one-joke parody that turns out to take over your entire life is either an opportunity (Eastman) or burden (Laird).

Laird: ...Ask me how many other comic books I've drawn?
CBR: Okay, how many other comic books have you drawn?
Laird: Zero!
CBR: All right, how many book covers and album jackets have you done?
Laird: Zero! Zero! It's all been Turtles!

Y'know I remember that comic, it was one of those 80 B&W books like Cerebus. Nice to see it getting some exposure.

I can see why that had to go to KS though, I mean how would kids today even know about them?

I can't care less what or who everyone thinks kickstarter should be for.

The TMNT basically defined most of my childhood and adolescence. From the cartoon to the Palladium RPB, action figures to video games. There is no way I'm NOT backing this.

Yep. Everyone knows about the IDW reboot of the TMNT. AMIRIGHT???

This isn't the original Mirage comics or the 1987 TMNT cartoon series or the 2003 TMNT cartoon series or TMNT movie or (or the Japanese TMNT series) any more than the TWD boardgame is the television series.

Alopex and Old Hob are IDW characters, not Mirage.

Down Under

Not really seeing an issue about the crowdfunding angle.

The property holders are happy enough to leave it as is, ie live in a world without this product.

Seems like someone from IDW or elsewhere said something like "Wouldn't it be great if we could make board/skirmish game with the turtles and their baddies?" but needed to get extra licenses and raise the money.

Yes, turtles are massive and most people know of them, but the impetus for this project seems to be coming from another source other than the IP holders.
Like when Prodos did it with their unlucky/poorly planned AVP.

Without the crowdfunding platform it is quite probable this project would not get off the ground or, or if it did would have been much more limited (no option for thug models, only the punch disks etc)

Glory is fleeting. Obscurity is forever.

It's a funny thing; after that GOD-AWFUL Bay movie (which I did not want to watch but ended up seeing due to circumstances), I felt as if my affection for the Turtles had been extinguished. The CG cartoon didn't even interest me after that.

Somehow though, when I saw this I got extremely excited. I'm backing. I have a number of friends who aren't into miniatures games, but can be persuaded to play board games, so I think (hope) this will be great to play with them; the "brand-recognition" will hopefully help me to pull them in.

This is being produced by the same people who did the Ghostbusters game right?
I had seen some pictures of the final pieces for those and was underwhelmed. I sent a message asking if they could do collectors versions of the miniatures. No response yet.

I watched the newest TMNT with my kids. My expectations were low but they were excited about it so I gave it a shot on Netflix. There was a lot I just didn't like but there were some funny moments. I think, really outside of character designs, my main problem was the villain setup/story changes.
I'll watch the sequel. I don't expect it to be amazing but I do think it'll be amusing.

No. The TMNT game is being published by IDW. The Ghostbusters game was by Cryptozoic.

I was slightly surprised by the Michael Bay TMNT movie. I didn't hate it, which was surprising. Other than that, my expectations were so low going into it that it provided an entertaining enough two hours. Certainly glad I didn't pay to see it in the movie theatre. I would have been peeved to waste my money that way.

Cryptozoic KS'ed Ghostbusters, IDW Games (related to IDW Comics) is KS'ing TMNT.

AFIAK, IDW Games hasn't released a miniatures game before, but the game designer, Kevin Wilson, has a long history of game design, such as Descent and other FFG Games.

Only thing close to collector's versions are the alternative sculpts for some of the "exclusive" figures. I know Splinter will be released in retail "years" later, so you have to read the fine print to know what is and what will not be available for retail later.

Note that this game is based on the IDW Comics TMNT series. There's obviously overlap with the various cartoon series and Mirage comics, but IDW Comics has some new characters and other changes.

I would be equally excited by SWAT Kats, Street Sharks, Battletoads, Bucky O'Hare, and honestly even Darkwing Duck.

The 80s and 90s were so full of properties that could be tapped for this type of thing and they were already designed around miniatures of a sort so there's not much brainwork involved.

Dino-Riders
Inhumanoids
Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors
Centurions
Silver Hawks
Visionaries

I dunno.. I see Kickstarters like this and Ghostbusters and I like to think some of that other stuff might get revived. Does it need to be? Eh, probably not but who cares.. they were created for fun and to capture imaginations in the first place..
I would hope at the very least the really big names like GI Joe, Thundercats, and He-Man will pop up in this format.

GI Joe, He Man, MASK or Dino Riders would be all sorts of perfect for a miniatures battle game.

Dino Riders? Hell yes. M.A.S.K too. Am mildly impressed by how much better this is doing than Mantic's The Walking Dead offering.

Wargamesfactory has a new multipart plastic modern soldier sprue coming out at salute this year. It's part of their zombie game, but they would make an excellent base model for GIJoe grunts and or Cobra troopers.

Edit: also Spiral Zone big wheel thing would be kick butt too.

Kevin Wilson of Decent and Arkham horror fame is designing the rules. I find it reassuring that the rules wont be just thrown together to sell minis.
