I was doing this, as I've barely touched the models I got for Christmas 14 months ago yet. Then I saw some cheap Incubi on eBay...

I actually swore off GW models over two years ago and, apart from one "buy a Sister" event over a year ago, I've kept true to that. I mean, sure, it helps that I've pretty much washed my hands of the actual 40k wargame, finding FFG's RPG and the various video games to be much more fun (and, for wargaming, other games to be superior), but I've only been tempted to make a few purchases a couple times, but resisted.

The longer I go, the easier it gets. I'm even starting to appraise GW models with a more-critical eye now. Used to be, if they released something for a faction I liked, I almost had to have it. Now? Now I look at their models and I find that they're... ridiculous, but not in a good way. I mean, sure, 40K and GW have always been ridiculous to a greater or lesser extent but, now, I'm really just not digging the aesthetic of a lot of the recent releases.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Agreed. I was a rabid GW dwarf collector for years, bought almost everything as soon as it was released. When 7th edition came out, I didn't buy all of the characters, I though they looked off somehow, ditto the plastic miners, a disapointment.
When 8th was released, the gyrocopter looked ridiculous, the new longbeards and ironbreakers looked sort of OK, but not what I expected. The end times models looked cool, but I couldn't bring myself to fork over that much cash for one model.
I have bought no GW since.
Fortunatly I have enough unpainted lead to last for many years.
All I buy now is glue and paint.

For 2016, I am trying my best not to buy anything besides supplies. If I can trade my piles of Fantasy models waiting to be assembled for something else that I have been eyeing I will be happy. Figured that it is time to reduce my stock pile of models (which will make my wife happy), and start new games that I wanted to (Infinity and Guild Ball).

I would feel bad if I just went and bought all the stuff i wanted, but selling stuff and trading for it I do not feel bad about.

My limitation is I can only start building a kit if I finish painting the previous one.

..Well on the plus side, I haven't built any new kits.

I have decided this year too only allow myself to buy more once I finish what I have already purchased this year.

So far I have bought

OOP Metal Tomb King from the Chariot kit (Minus the Chariot)
3 OOP Metal Uruk Hai Scouts
1 Bloodsecrator to use as a Khorne BSB

We shall see if I can finish all this before I buy more...but seeing how I have made this pledge before and failed miserably...heres hoping!

I've scaled way back on impulse purchases and new armies in the last two years, although I still bought some big piles of stuff. The difference is that I've actually painted a lot of the stuff I bought!

Large lot of 30k? Built and Painted
KOW Ogres: Built and Painted
Small Farrow lot: Built and Painted
Bolt Action Germans: all built, nearly all painted
Cygnar: All built, nearly all painted
KOW Ogre Megaarmy (x2): All built, nearly all painted

Right now, that leaves 20 Resin 30k Tacticals , my BaC box, and an Orc and goblin amry as the only stuff I bought in the last two years that's still unpainted.

That's actually more stuff than I expected. I've been very productive painting wise, but when you're buying full, large armies for multiple systems, it's so hard to keep up.

Not counting Christmas gifts, I actually haven't bought anything since November, which makes me very happy.

Pretty sure I've not bought anything this year, plan to keep it that way unless something limited comes along that I've gotta get.

Trading a bit, but that's as far as I'm going.

I'm on a "No Infinity miniatures until what I have is painted' limitation. The exception is terrain, getting enough for a single board. Then I have to paint that as well.

So over the weekend I got 6 units built from the pile, which means everything for my crimson fists is at least built now. I think it will take a year to paint, so I intend not to add the vehicles until that is done.

I'm on the wagon until Salute, and so far, so good. I refused the offer to join in a group Forge World order, and so far, I've spurned the siren call of Ebay. I've been catching up with painting models I already own instead (finished my High Elf army, painted an inquisitor warband, started a second, assembled Archmagos Draykavac, ...)

Mind you, it helps that all the Inquisitors on Ebay are hugely overpriced.

I spent a few hours today sorting sprues, clipping all the bits off and putting them into compartmentalized boxes. It's helped reduce the amount of space taken up by all sprues, which is good. I've got a massive blister which is incentive not to want to do it again anytime soon, and it has definitely helped my resolve not to add to the pile.

So I already failed in my "No Buy" pledge. I hadn't bought directly from GW since 2010. Always Ebay, trades and supporting my Local Game store

....and then they put the Helcannon on "Last Chance to buy"....I had no choice guys!

There is not this idea.

Listen, I just bought an IoB set that I found at an old hobby shop. So I feel you, I failed in a similar way.

No more, though. I'm done.

Well, I have already too many grey (unpainted) Marines from the BaC and AoS box sets. I don't usually play with unpainted models. Therefore, no more buys atm.
However, I'll consider playing Goreshade3, Lord of Ruin, and in this context need 5 Soulhunters.

This is my main incentive to stop building terrain at the moment I have a blister from scraping off mold lines from an ungodly amount of Cities of Death pieces

I'm still spending. By that definition, I've already failed! I've already bought:

- More Darklands (a lot of it)
- A (very heavily) discounted new realm of battle board and extension pieces (skulls currently polyfiller'd and drying)
- Modelling supplies (woodland scenics and winsor and newton mainly)

But.

I've actually been doing a massive reduction and sell off in the range and amount of game systems I was actively collecting and I've ended up with more hobby money in the bank than I've spent. So far, I've sold off:

  • My entire Sedition Wars collection. This was a lot. Not only have the Kickstarter bits gone, I also sold off all limited edition resins I had, including the Original Vokker Dargu, Kara Black and all the rest. I loved the models, but wasn't doing much with them. The recent binning of the game by CMON/McVey sealed my decision to flog the lot. All gone.
  • Dropzone Commander. This was a tough decision. Love the game, but it has been sat partially assembled for a while now and I couldn't get the motivation to paint them. So, off it went, limited editions as well (I kept my New Orleans Strike Carrier as that is a nice model and, more importantly, it is painted. I don't sell painted models any more).
  • Most of my Zombicide collection. With the exception of some of the limited survivors and the first game, most of this went out the door. Chances are, the rest will follow, but I am still deciding that.
  • Some of my Darklands Kindreds. This hurt a lot. I had a small collection of Anglecynn and a bunch of Fomoraic that just didn't inspire me and I love the Erainn and Jutes. So this lack of inspiration, along with the arrival of metals, the new Reiver and Atalantes concepts meant that I re-focused what I was collecting so off they went to a new home.
  • 40k/30k pile. I have a habit of being a bit of a butterfly when it comes to the 40k universe. But, I took a look at what I had, realised I couldn't paint all of it, and binned a load of it. My Imperial Guard Armoured Company went (mostly Forgeworld) along with a bunch of oldhammer related gear. Decided to refocus on 30k (mainly) with a smattering of 40k (Elysians and AdMech - though I'm waiting on seeing what Forgeworld does before I dive too far into AdMech).
  • Fantasy went. This was an easy decision especially after seeing the mess of AoS and the split playerbase. Was never that invested in fantasy anyway (though I loved Chaos Dwarfs) and flogged lots off. Plenty of Oldhammer went as well. I kept enough to support my eternal Warhammer Quest games though!

  • Other bits that went included spare Space Hulk sets and random bits and bobs. It was very cathartic to say the least and I'm currently eyeing up the next sell off. Man O'War will probably go. Zombicide I'm prevaricating on. Lots more Oldhammer will probably go too, I reckon.

The clearout has been good in many ways, I've been able to resist splurging willy nilly on Forgeworld purchases, the new Deathwatch game I was able to resist and other releases didn't tempt me as much. Plus, when something comes a long that I do actually want (Epic, BFG, etc), I'll have the cash and space for them.

So, to you bods holding off on buying, go further. Look at selling off instead! Clear out those ranges, reduce those piles!

But I also broke my vow, ordering a box of Thundertusk Cavalry and DE Wytches (for DCA conversions). Gonna support a kickstarter in the next few days :/

    But that's gonna be it!

On a positive side, I have enough of XCOM2, so more time for miniatures!

Yeah I managed to hold off buying into 3 Kickstarters and I ALMOST bought some OOP metal Lord of the Rings miniatures but I lost the auctions. So hooray for technically keeping to the pledge!

Depends on The Wife. I could probably get approval to pick up way more then I do. New 40k stuff makes me happy, The Wife likes it when I’m happy. Plus it gives her an excuse to be a little more lax on her expenditures.

But we don’t need to spend the money. Every cent we can sock away is one more closer to getting into a new house.

So just because it’s OK with the better half does not make it OK in an absolute sense.

But if it’s not OK with the wife, you better be good at covering your tracks, because that’s right out!
