I put mine away for good because I took about a 6 year break. I played Emperor's Children when I was 15-ish, around the time of CSM codex 3 and 3.5. I then Stopped, nothing to do with the game or the codex, I just found other interests and had no gaming stores near me (GW closed down).

Went back 6 years later and cracked open my cases to find that what looked like it had been pro-painted to my 15 year old eyes was actually gak. Painted a couple of models, saw I was way better, even without 6 years of practice and decided to play guard instead.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Having always played and modeled my chaos marines as renegades rather than legions I stopped using the chaos dex and instead use the space marine codex since 5th.

I started playing Chaos Space Marines at the end of 6th beginning of 7th. Probably not the wisest of moves but have continued to collect them anyway. I win more than I lose but don't play in an ultra competitive environment.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

Started playing KDK instead, which was fun for a while, until the same formations time after time began getting boring.

Still no lovin for Night Lords or Iron Warriors, so tbh have been playing a LOT less 40k lately.

Even got 60 bucks ish waiting on a new codex dropping.... Had that for nearly a year now.

See we finally got an Imperial/Chaos Knight now. 4 years is it late?

Anyways meh, yeah, not starting another army. Just have allies which still can't fix the CSM failings & lack of flavour (Outside of KDK).

I picked up the CSM book and was planning on starting a whole army of them to ride shotgun to my daemon army. Then flipping through it all I felt like it was a bit bland compared to my daemons and my SW. What could CSM offer me from a tabletop perspective that those two armies didn't already cover?

Daemons have all the super CC killy covered better than CSM could ever hope. SW have all the power armor killy covered better than CSM can wish to be. So I sold most of what I had and picked up necrons as a shooty army, which then turned into Renegades and Heretics. R&H are becoming my main army, and what little CSM I have left are allied into my R&H. CSM has a surprisingly large amount of really awesome FW stuff. If they were to get all their FW goodies in their codex, it would be pretty sweet.

I firmly believe Daemons needed to be split from CSM so that GW could properly support that miniature line, but in many ways it stripped CSM of the most distinctive elements of their army prior to it. Daemon engines was the best way to add new units, despite their short comings, but in the absence of Daemons GW really needs to think about the core CSM units and revise them.

I have gone from nearly 20k points of Chaos and Daemons to almost nothing, in the last month and a half, selling my armies because I personally hate the absolute vindictive attitude GW seems to have towards CSM. (Its like a bunch of Angry Nerds donned some CSM symbols and stormed their office, stole all the xerox papers and put X-Lax in their coffee machines or something) Their hatred and utter disregard for what are the most important villains within the game of 40k towards the Imperium is what made realize, it's not going to get better...

I gave up, Im not saying others should follow me because I still love the game, but right now I just can't look at the thing I sunk so many years of my life into and thousands upon thousands of dollars towards, and realize that it's entirely pointless because of a built in handicap GW put on the army I chose because they want Little Timmy to feel good about his crutches.

I stopped playing cuz all my friends stopped playing, but if I could get a game in I wouldn't hesitate to run CSM. With forgeworld units, but hey. For no other reason than being attached to CSM. They're still the super powered badasses they are/were in the lore to me and I conveniently pretend that Crimson slaughter ever happened. Especially now that I read some of their lore where it almost sounds like they make the heresy era marine look like children...

Whenver I feel down about the state of csm, I look toward forgeworld word bearers and their corrupted models and praise the hope lol. But yea, CSM or bust for me, with a handful of tau to mix it up once in while.

Chaos is still my main army, but I rarely use the CSM any more. I originally started playing Daemons as an allied detachment for my CSM, but they've grown to become my primary force. Daemons just offer far more interesting and viable options. I have no intention of selling my CSM though, and will probably continue to add to them as I repurpose second hand miniatures I buy from eBay.

I kinda have 5-6 armies of CSM.
One each as a "pure" chaos god army.
Black Legion to tie it all together with Iron Legion to handle the heavy stuff.
All sitting in the equivalent of a steamer trunk un-played for about 4 years now.
Too bad really, the most characterful armies in 40k in my mind.

Black Templar is my main army at this time.

I had a large force of Chaos Marines that I had collected since about 2005. They were the first army I started with the intention of playing the game and soforth, but after the 5th edition Codex I haven't played them. Some of the stuff got offloaded over the years and I've actually sold off my 6E Codex (which I sometimes regret) but now I'm aiming to build a solid Iron Warriors force if only for painting and display purposes.

I've been playing CSM less and less as the local meta sucks out all the fun. I've mainly been playing Daemons, but that book is also showing its age.

I'm in a weird place in that my CSM are no longer using the CSM codex unless it's a god-specific army (my nurglites). My Iron Warriors, by far the largest of my Chaos Armies, is actually using Iron Hands rules and allied with IG Armored battle companies because those fit better.

I run three armies, KDK, Slaanesh CSM and Imperial Fists (successors). I ran CSM for a good while before Demonkin came out. I've been running them pretty much exclusively in place of CSM. Every now and then I'll run a noise marines list or run Black Legion as allies for the Kabal. Point of fact is that CSM are in a rough spot and I shelved my BA for a reason. If I'm running a choppy army I'd like them to actually be able to teach combat. Hence the noise marines.Well that they look awesome (the actual 4th Ed models which I have ~30 of) and they can be a blast to play.

Personally, I used my beloved Death Guard CSM army exclusively for something like 2.5 years at my FLGS and the extreme rare occasion of a game outside. It is by far the single army I've put the most effort (both painting and converting) into and even were my first local armies on parade entry (Silver ).

While I still have a real soft spot for them ( and to various degrees other chaos legions, they're just so badass), I just packed them back in the case and shelved them over a year ago for the foreseeable future.

Im not really a competitive player, but it really bugged me after a while when I'd have to stick fairly close to the same sort of list just to stay in with a shot at pulling a win. The majority of my games were either close games, or losses. Absolutely rarely did I ever pull a decisive win, and it really starts to annoy you when you are facing like 8 loss streaks against weaker lists just because their codex is newer. Becomes rather demoralizing regardless of how competitive or friendly you are, to know before you even start the game that you'll likely have your rear handed to you.

Since switching to Codex marines I run softer lists than my CSM were, however I find each match has the potential to go either way and win as often as I lose...Exactly what I look for in my games, a balance of challenge and fun .

To be perfectly fair, I pretty much stopped using Chaos when 2nd rolled into 3rd and I dug into Dark Eldar while my buddy picked up my Chaos boys. So... my opinion probably shouldn't count for much.

Got in on the 3.5 codex, which is one of the best ever written. This was in 2003. I had 1300 points, equal part Night Lords and Iron Warriors. Would give marks to make them 1500 points for local meta. After 4th I never won much, and sold them off sadly in 2010. I miss my night lords especially.

I long for the day when I can actually do a CSM Legion army and not have it be hot garbage or be forced to shoehorn taking MoN and saying it's something else (e.g. bionics). It doesn't necessarily have to be 3.5 Codex good, but something to actually make Chaos a threat again and make them distinct instead of a mishmash of random nonsense and random charts from Rogue Trader era gameplay. Those charts are fine for like Path to Glory or similar but don't belong in 40k itself.

Until then I am going to try and do a Daemonkin army since they at least seem cool and are decently effective.

Honestly, I can't wait to see how they feth things up with the rumored plastic Thousand Sons kit...

My bet, no Sorcerer model included, no upgrades of any kind, but rules stay 100% as per the current codex!
