Speaking for myself I don't think Battle of Calthe or AoS needed long development periods.

Didn't we have confirmed pics of Calth for over a year before it came out though? I distinctly remember pictures of the tac Marines with no idea what they were for and people claiming they were a hoax

IDK however that doesn't invalidate my point.

Put simply, inventing a game like AoS or BoC isn't a major project, especially for a company like GW that exists to invent games like AoS and BoC, and it doesn't have to take years.

It might take years because of dilly-dallying and shilly-shallying by management and this drives to the topic since I think Rountree has been a lot more pro-active and vigorous and thereby got a lot more stuff going since he became top guy.

I'm not talking about the game of Calth itself though. I'm talking about the plastic sprues, whcih, if I remember right, were dated back to 2012 or something crazy like that. I'm sure the "game" was made in a week, but building several new sets of plastic molds takes time

If B@C's rules were made in a week, maybe the next edition of 40k should be made in an afternoon. B@C is a seriously good ruleset.

What is most important is Roundtree's Intent. He genuinly wants to make fun games and put out product people love while also making investers happy. Kirby just wanted to build a golden parachute.

So you know both of them personally, do you? I agree that things have changed for the better. Well, kinda - I'd weaned myself almost entirely off GW products shy of Forge World and now I'm buying more than ever. But while Rountree is saying and doing many of the "right" things, to speculate on his intent and personality is just that - speculation. I'd think turning the ship around after years of shrinking would be his priority over the rest of it.

I was talking more about the plastics design and tooling.

The rules for AoS... fifteen minutes, written on the back of the place mats at the local pub?

Mind you, it is possible that the plastics were already in the works when the decision was made to torpedo the good ship WHFB.

I would certainly be interesting in the timeline behind the destruction of WHFB; specifically if it came before or after the granting of the Warhammer license to Sega and the most commercially successful Total War game to date.

See, you shouldn't say stuff like that, I had a momentary flash of hope there that TW:W selling like bacon-wrapped heroin might clout some sense into GW and at least spur FW/SGS to give us an Old World fix. Then I remembered who we're talking about.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

It's still hard to say since lots of stuff was in the works for a long time probably. But I do notice a big savings in the starter sets now, re-releases of LOTR etc.

I never knew that GW would start selling starter kits in toy stores/general hobby shops like Michaels I'll have to look into that. Seems like a good move to me, get some kids into the hobby.
I wonder what kind of other kits they will offer if it does well!

I pretty much agree with you there Ins. It's not like Roundtree can just jump in and go " Yeah we know we have been boning you guys on prices for years...40% price reduction for all!!!". SO when I see kits like IK:R with basically a free knight for 5-10$ bucks it shows that maybe there is someone who can stop the insanity at HMS Titanic... GW. Then again maybe not?

Ironically it would take a 40% price reduction for me to consider getting back in.

Captain Killhammer McFighterson stared down at the surface of Earth from his high vantage point on the bridge of Starship Facemelter. Something ominous was looming on the surface. He could see a great shadow looming just underneath the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, slowly spreading northward. "That can't be good..." he muttered to himself while rubbing the super manly stubble on his chin with one hand. "But... on the other hand..." he looked at his shiny new bionic murder-arm. "This could be the perfect chance for that promotion." A perfect roundhouse kick slammed the ship's throttle into full gear. Soon orange jets of superheated plasma were visible from the space-windshield as Facemelter reentered the atmosphere at breakneck speed.

Just wanna chime in that Rountree lost brownie points from me for the whole "Captain Centos" thing, namely his apparently unusable rules and the fact that Centos was made in Finecast.

if the YMDC is any indication, he has rules but no point costs or how to actually field him.

Also I just don't like finecast It's like that one embarassing vegas trip that we don't talk about.

I didn't manage to get into a GW store to pick up a Centos, as the only GW store in my area is a good hour away, and it was a busy weekend for me. :(

Wish they had sent some of those to independents, like they did with the Anniversary marine. Or, at least, had it on their own website!

Overall, I give points to Roundtree for taking steps to try to make segments of the community happy that previously felt marginalized. Hopefully, they feel a little less marginalized these days Also, I am very happy with the contents of the big box sets of late (like Deathwatch, Renegade, Silver Tower) -- they just contain so much good stuff.

But everyone else does.

And somebody put on YouTube.

So that anytime you visit Vegas from now on, you have to wear a mask and use fake ID.

Gods above and below, I hated Findcash.

Someone mentioned that "Communication with the community" has improved since Rountree took office. Can anyone give examples of this, as for me, the bad times started in & around the time the old GW forum was shut down.

40,000

Age Of Sigmar

Forge World

I'm happy at three seperate as opposed to one overarching page. Means that people who prefer one game don't have to sift through other systems and game designers can address the fan base directly.

I think we can conclude that anything since 2015 was Kevin Rountree's idea.

Ah! That explains it. I was searching for games-workshop, but I guess one page per product line makes sense. Although the 40k page does also specifically point out that the game designers don't address the page directly.

Also GW, in the form of one of their lead designers, James Hewitt, is engaging board gamers on Board Game Geek.
That's huge for board gamers, a segment GW have been also targeting with Warhammer Quest, B@C, Deathwatch, Execution Force.

True, but they are in contact with them, as evident by the overwhelming number of FAQs they are putting out.
